First time here - Friday night HH/dinner. What I liked was the Coconut Marg ($15.99) and the guac (thick & chunky). I did not care for the seafood tacos. The entree has 2 tacos on a thick fried bread(?), not taco shells, either hard or soft. I chose a shrimp and a lobster. Neither very tasty. It came with rice and a side salad. This was almost $20. Our server was friendly. We saw several people who appeared to be mgrs walking around and past us but no one stopped at our table. I would not come back. For a place with tequila in the name, you can imagine my surprise when they served me the worst margarita I have ever had. It had essence of battery acid. When I asked to exchange it for the same drink my friend was enjoying, they refused. The final straw ( ha ha) for me - they charged NINETEEN dollars for an undrinkable margarita. Vegetable fajitas was a skillet full of canned chopped tomatoes and broccoli served with rock hard tortillas. Guacamole had no salt. The second star is for the chips only, which were hot and tasty. We have been regular diners at Don Tequila UA for a few years now. Last night we had Victoria as our server again, she is excellent...confirms your order, checks on you several times and is so kind. We love the food here, our favorite is the Chili Rellenos that are not fried and can be filled with chicken, beef, potato or cheese. An extensive menu that is good for my gluten free friends as well. The restaurant is always very clean and well staffed. Our favorite mexican in Columbus... we even drive a few miles when we are only a block from their main competitor. read more

Don Tequila is my happy place. That might sound odd to say about a Mexican restaurant in a strip mall, but it's true and I don't care what that says about me. Everyone is so friendly and happy and the food is great. The happy hour can't be beat. And even if it's not happy hour, a pitcher margarita and a basket of chips is still a great deal. Since coming here for the first time I haven't been able to stay away. I think I've come here 4 out of the last 6 weekends. And I was sad one of the weekends I didn't come! It calls to me. This place has its ups and downs, but I am finally done with it after the disgusting experience I had on my last visit. I ordered a quesadilla and after taking two bites I realized there was no cheese. I asked for a side of cheese but the bartender insisted the item be remade. The bartender picked up the quesadilla and looked in to confirm there was no cheese. She handed the quesadilla to the manager who also touched the quesadilla and confirmed there was no cheese. This same exact quesadilla came back to me "with cheese"and the same bites missing. The workers were confused that I was in shock that the same quesadilla that a minimum of 3 people touched was thrown back on the grill and brought back to me. This was the most unsanitary and disturbing restaurant experience I've ever had. There are serious health code violations going on here. Avoid this place at all costs. read more

This Mexican restaurant sits in the midst of the storefront area in Upper Arlington's Kingsdale Shopping Center. (Oh no, a strip mall?! - I already warned you, quit reading.) Kingsdale is a massively revamped shopping center in the heart of this Columbus suburb, bedroom community. Lots of cool new stuff going on here, but back to the refried beans... Don Tequila has a vast menu of Mexican favorites as well as a few "placate the picky eater kids" items. Also, a full bar, which you could likely discern from the word "Tequila" being in the name. Want a lunch special margarita? Done! I am one of those lame people who does not like spicy food, and you can get American-style Mexican food here, but my friends all love spice, and they leave here full and contented. Chips and salsa greet every customer at table, booth, or bar in the surprisingly roomy dining area and patio. Then you can order combinations of entrees and sides, or order al la carte like I do for tacos. We were genuinely surprised at how good the food was here, and have retuned many times since first wandering in. The supremely friendly staff will hustle to get you food and drinks, and make you want to return. One item of warning - though parking is available and the place is big, if Upper Arlington High School has an evening event like a football game, this whole center may prove too busy. I got vaca frita (fried cow?) and it was amazing. Tender shredded beef with veggies, super tasty, plus good rice and black beans. I got corn tortillas and made up some tacos, ate the rest straight. We've been meaning to try Don Tequila, so we placed an online order for street tacos, Mexican fries, and Coke in glass bottles. They also added chips and salsa. The order was ready when stated, and the service was friendly. The fries and salsa were excellent. The chorizo tacos were pretty good, but we're curious to try other proteins (they also offer steak, pork carnitas, and chicken). The street tacos come with a nice tomatillo sauce. I have been going here for about 2 years now and I have not yet been disappointed. I always feel very welcome here as the service is really good. I want to give a shoutout to Roberto, he is extremely nice and always makes sure to treat us well. The food here is fantastic. It is always delicious, and is extremely consistent which you don't seem to find with many restaurants now. It is always hot, it comes out fast and you get a really good amount of food, which I think is worth the money you spend. You get so much food sometimes I can't even finish it! Not a bad thing. The inside of the restaurant has a really nice, pleasant atmosphere. The decor is really nice looking and everything is very clean. Even the bathrooms are extremely clean and they smell fantastic. The only thing Don Tequila needs is bigger tables, as they have big plates and it gets pretty crowded on the table. haha. Let me preface: I made the mistake and pitted Don Tequila against Arepazo. I happened to notice DTG offers some Venezuelan dishes, and I made up my mind to try their Patacon. Service was fast and efficient; the gal checked in a few times, and had a pleasant personality. DT's cilantro sauce was more of a mayo meets cilantro consistency. The lettuce was cut in big square chucks like from a salad mix, which wasn't helping in the plating appearance department. The grilled chicken was hot, but it didn't have much flavor. Event the fried sweet plantains were rather nondescript - SUPER sad face. The restaurant is nice inside, spacious with Mexican-themed decor spread tastefully about. I suppose if I grew up in the area my opinion may be different, who knows. A good try, but they could use more food-flavor to grab my tastebuds and draw me back in. read more

Don Tequilas was a new experience for me and my family and there food was good. The atmosphere was inviting and the servers were very friendly. It is a place that I will visit again. One thing I will say however is that when you find a foreign object in a part of your meal such as a stone in your black beans with dirt on it, that you crunch into your teeth, its like getting an egg shell in your omelet or whatever egg dish your eating. Your meal is ruined because you really need to brush your teeth to get that out of your mouth. As an Executive Chef with excellent customer service I would never allow a patron to have an experience like this and not comp that person's meal or offer them something like a dessert or something for their trouble. My bill was 117.00 for my family and that's not including the tip added. These places are great but when they make a mistake they are not good at correcting their mistakes. This place has a nice ambience. The decoration are nice and the staff seem to be even nicer. I placed my order and received fairly quickly. The horchata was yummy and I really enjoyed drinking it. I ordered the the burrito Mexicano. However, what I received wasn't that. There was no rice and beans with it, so I'm a little disappointed in what I got. Just a quick update: still the best chips & salsa in town! Super quick, super friendly service every time. They have definitely succeeded at integrating food delivery pickups and handling online and to-go orders. Also, though we haven't eaten inside in a couple years, this is one restaurant where I would feel comfortable doing so. The ceilings are high and the space is very clean. Staff is masked and plastic guards are still up at the cash register. I appreciate those things! They also have a little patio once it warms up. My quest for a delicious enchilada has come to an end, my friends! For years (like, maybe 6) I have been searching for an enchilada that I couldn't wait to experience again and again. We entered the restaurant and were greeted warmly. Once seated or server brought us some fresh warm chips & a flavorful salsa with a perfect amount of heat. We placed our drink orders (Coke products) and reviewed the expansive menu. While they're were many tempting choices, I'm an enchilada gal so I was laser-focused on that portion of the menu and saw some delicious options. Wanting to try a few, I opted for the Enchilada Supreme which consisted of 1 beef, 1 bean, 1 chicken and 1 cheese enchiladas. They come with Ranchero sauce, lettuce, cojita cheese and sour cream. My boyfriend ordered that while I opted to substitute the Ranchero sauce for queso. Not one regret. The worst Mexican food I've had in Columbus. Fake ceviche. Pre cooked shrimp, unripened, rock hard avocado drenched in a disgusting sweet jarred tomato sauce.
