We happened on the restaurant just by chance. Scanning reviews while traveling down to a relation's place. A lucky find. From the exterior a restaurant situated within a strip mall. We stopped into this place for supper last night and I have mixed emotions about it. My mother and I split the sampler and my Bro and his wife had cheese enchiladas with spinach. The food was pretty good. The salsa and chips could have used a touch of salt. The margaritas were pretty tiny for $10. As for the ambiance, it was VERY loud in there on a Friday night. Plus, an added mariachi singer made it that much louder. Our waitress was stretched very thin between several tables and even making things at the bar. It's not what you think haha! Five stars for the customer service and five stars the food. Two super important things! We came here for my father in law's birthday.. Table for 6.. they do not accept reservations (although there may be some discrepancies about that). We came on a Friday night and the people at the bar were LOUD. Our waiter made us feel like family. I had the seafood stuffed whitefish and opted for a sour cream sauce for my enchiladas instead of a red sauce. This meal was incredible! I want to begin by saying the food here is always exceptional. But the atmosphere this time... When we lived in DeSoto we loved eating at this location. Now that we live much further north, this was our first visit in many years. And, unfortunately, it was also our last. This is a good-sized restaurant, full of hard surfaces which bounce sound around. On the weekend evening of our last visit, the noise was truly overwhelming. I am hearing-impaired and wear hearing aids so that I can hear the conversation of my table-mates. But turning up the aids to hear the person right next to me meant that it also amplified the overall noise. The restaurant was very busy that night, and it seemed that nearly everyone else was yelling. Lest you think my complaint was solely the result of my hearing loss, let me assure you that all four of us thought the din was overwhelming. Without adding some sort surfaces to absorb sound I doubt this problem can be fixed, so I won't visit this location anymore. I'll gladly try the Midlothian site, because the food is wonderful. read more

While the chicken was good the brisket nachos were the best. I had a grapefruit ranch water and he had the tropical mango ranch water, both were delicious. The servers were attentive and topped off water, salsa and chips without being asked. They weren't too busy when we arrived but while there the Saturday lunch crowd trickled in and they had music playing that was at a comfortable level. We came to Vera Cruz for my moms 61st bday. The food LOOKED as good as it tasted which is why I forgot to take a picture of it LOL! The drinks were good and strong! The waitstaff treated us right the entire night. They were fast friendly and attentive. My husband bought a round of shots to close the night out right for my moms celebration and the prices weren't ridiculous like some places. My mom actually comes here every Tuesday like clockwork so they're obviously a great establishment. The music and the atmosphere is fun and friendly. I ordered the Pescado Xanath which consist of a stuffed fish, 2 cheese enchiladas and black beans. The portion was a good size. This is something I could have split with some else and we'd both have been satisfied. I can't describe the flavor of the fish, but it was delicious. It came with a cream sauce, but I left it off because it was already so flavorful. The enchiladas were stuffed with cheese and my husband started eating them off my plate. April 20th 2018 update: Last night my wife and I suddenly got a huge craving for chilaquiles (a Mexican dish consisting of tortilla chips in hot sauce topped with cheese, chicken, fried eggs..). It was 8:45 pm so most places in my area were already closed. I called this place (they close the kitchen at 9:30pm on Thursdays) and the first person who answered the phone didn't know what chilaquiles are but she was kind enough to put a second person on the phone...who didn't know what chilaquiles are either so he then put a third person on the phone...Who said: "Hi, I'm Sergio. If you get here soon we can certainly have your chilaquiles ready for you". So my wife and I jumped in her car and got there at 9:20 and had the most wonderful and friendly service by Sergio and enjoyed those great chilaquiles (and a couple of margaritas of course). It was almost closing time, they were starting to clean up the bar and the chilaquiles are not even on their menu...Still they prepared the food and the drinks for us and gave us a wonderful and perfect service. This type of service is what makes a server and a restaurant a real success. I am now a loyal and devoted customer of Cafe Veracruz. Just like their branch in Bishop District, this one has excellent and friendly service, reasonable prices and the food is really really good. This is mostly Mexican food from the central gulf region with a few "Tex-Mex" items with "yellow cheese sauce"...all really good. Super impressed. Chips great, salsa great, entrees GREAT. We got the Nathan's Awesome Nachos with grilled beef and Montezuma's Fish Tacos. The nachos were probably the best we've ever had. Blanketed, but not too heavily, with jack cheese, topped with plenty of tender beef, and served with a nice hunk of sour cream and guacamole. The fish tacos were the real surprise though. I tend to only do fish tacos fried, but for some reason these were calling out to me. And I was not disappointed. The shells were absolutely STUFFED with grilled fish and the cream sauce was spot on. I could eat these daily for lunch for a while. Just amazing. And an almost bigger surprise? The black beans. SO GOOD! Smoky, spicy, garnished with just the right amount of queso fresco. I wish my black beans tasted like this. I will have to figure out the secret. Service was outstanding - attentive, helpful, engaged. I thought the prices seemed a couple/few dollars too high, but once the plates came and I saw the quality/quantity, I had to rescind that judgment. Currently there are two locations, they are both have excellent food. When they opened the location in Cedar Hill on Hwy 67 West bound, in the mid 90's our group of friends joined there for dinners & other celebrations. They have have excellent service and there are two waiters that are still serving us since the opening. They never let your tea glass or drink sit empty before offering more. Wonderful folks working there. But the best part of the visit is the wonderful food. We've tried many dishes & they never disappoint! Love this place & great bar for the watching games. Oh my god yes Veracruz Café. We found the Veracruz café up in Bishop arts Districk then we discovered that they had a new location off 67th over here in Cedar Hill area so we went and checked it out. We met a wonderful server by the name, Maria, so when you go in there, ask for Maria, she is awesome. The food is great, the drinks are wonderful, the service that we received was out of this world. I find that the food was very delicious and we had a great time going there. So far, we have gone to this restaurant a total of four times and each time it is been great. So if you're looking for a nice place to have lunch or dinner or have a nice brunch at yes, I would suggest going to Veracruz café either one of the locations. read more

LOVED this place. Another hidden gem near my house I failed to try sooner. The outside doesnt look like much as it's in between two hotels. Once inside it has a cozy cabin feeling inside and the staff is super friendly. I ordered the grilled fish tacos with a house margarita which was mango flavored. The food was amazing and well flavored, the drink perfect in liquor as well. For dessert we ordered sopapillas and OMG they were fresh and warm and so delicious. They brought us chips and salsa to start and we ordered the Vera Cruz sampler. It's a chicken quesadilla, which was very good, Mexican egg rolls, which were amazing, queso, which was actually pretty good, fried jalapenos, which were good and beef nachos, also good. It's a lot of food so we split an entree. We got the Peace Pipe, it's huge and comes with rice and very traditional beans, my daughter really liked the rice and I was surprised how much I liked the beans. Wish I could give this a higher rating because food was great, but the server at this restaurant inputted our tip wrong & granted herself more money than her service deserved. I get that it's a busy Saturday, but basically being ignored by your server and then having her make disrespectful comments does not grant a higher tip just because you feel like you deserved more. Drinks were not great but again the food was. Service was terrible & I will not be back. I do not trust this restaurant. read more
