Had to stop and give them a try! This place has a nice facility owned vibe! Clean inside, plenty of room and music playing in the background. Our server was great! My wife was a little particular about her burrito (ground beef with no potato and lightly grilled) they handled her request perfectly and she said her dinner was very good. I tried the new offering and the flavors were nice. Rice and beans were average but like I mentioned at the start, Very much like home cooking. Chips were served warm with plenty of salsa. Her drink was great and well presented. Had to rap up dinner with the Tres Leches and it was a hit. She said it definitely felt homemade! So, we're going with a 3.5 and saying... I drive by the place all the time when out shopping at the Outdoor Mall and decided to give them a try. The service is good. You are greeted at the door and assisted as soon as you walk in. I ordered my food To-Go and it was ready in about 10 minutes. Now... the food... was simply not good. The charro beans and rice were the only thing I liked. But the carne asada (which was really just a piece of cheap grilled steak) was flavorless and tough. It has zero salt or spice on it. And it was so tough I could not chew it. My husband ordered beef fajitas and there was hardly any meat. It was 85% grilled peppers and onions. I didn't have any food that would encourage a second visit. read more

This place is nice, and decent. My family of 10 came here for a birthday dinner and they were nice servers. We all waited till everyone was there, and once we ordered our food it took along time to get. The food was okay, i guess because there was a lot of us the food took a while and some plates were ready and some weren't so my plate was not hot semi warm.. I ordered the el presidente plate, it was good. I wish the cheese was a little warmer in the enchiladas. It was a cheese with cheese, a cheese with chili, and a chicken sour cream. The chicken had little to any seasoning. The guiso burrito- it's really like a taco was good. I'd order again, and just reheat at home. This place is clean and the staff is very good. But- the food is so boring and old style Tex-Mex. Chips from a store, nothing great about the hot sauce. I had an enchilada plate that was so drab. No spice, chicken was cold. Rice is like minute rice and the refried beans from a can. My husband got a combo plate with tacos, tostado and enchilada. Every Mexican food restaurant should have street tacos on their menu by now. Everything was on a crispy taco and covered with lettuce. The margaritas all mix and no tequila. LOVE this place!!! The food is full of flavor and is always hot. If you love Tex-Mex this is the place to go. I recommend the chicken tortilla soup and the beef chimichanga. The chicken tortilla soup is full of delicious veggies and chicken, it's 100% my favorite item on the menu. The salsa that comes with the complementary chips is amazing. We were new to this area over 20 years ago and needed a reliable Mexican food restaurant nearby our new house. Plato was the place we landed. Over the years we've stuck by them. But in recent years, since the restaurant changed ownership, we've noticed a bit of a decline in the quality/quantity of food, especially at breakfast. The portions have grown noticeably smaller and greasier. I mention this because the portions now seem cheap and stingy, like they're rationing a last meal. I'm willing to pay more, if that's what's needed, but make the portions respectable and filling. This is not fine dining - not even close. Treat your customers a little better, please. read more

I've been to Plato Loco several times through out the years and always had a decent experience. It's not the best Mexican food in CH, but it always been average. The chips are good and they have a really good diablo sauce. I came in yesterday for lunch and was thoroughly disappointed. SO and I ordered the spinach queso that came out watery and cold. We asked for them to heat it up, but that didn't salvage it. It was pretty awful. It was very thin runny cheese with frozen spinach dumped in it. I ordered the chicken fajita lunch special that was inedible. The chicken was bland and definitely not grilled at all, the veggies were still crunchy and it didn't come on a sizzling plate (I swear I've been before at lunch and ordered that exact same thing and it was a million times better then this). Luckily the beans and rice were ok. I love Mexican food, but I don't think Plato Loco will be at the top of my list next time. read more

I absolutely love this place! The drink specials are amazing. The draft beers are $2 & the margaritas range between $2.50-$3.50 before 8 pm, Monday-Friday. The beer is always ice cold & the margaritas taste so much better than the $10 margaritas I've purchased at restaurants and bars. I can't speak on the food because I've only had the chips, salsa and queso. If your a queso lover like myself, you won't be disappointed. I'll update this review and soon as I try the food. 3.5 actually, Yelp is exactly right about this place. It's not fancy at all but they have a big and interesting menu. They gave us free chips and sauce. We got the mini flautas to start, they came with lots of dips and were very good. I got the whole fried fish, it was just okay and I wouldn't get it again. I used to frequent quite often but on my last visit I found a bug stuck to the inside of my glass of water. I pointed it out to our very nice waitress who replaced the glass of water with a bottled water. The food was edible but I was creeped out by one of the employees (a big guy that looked intimidating)..he stood at the back of the restaurant and stared at my family and I until we completed our meals.. Why did it take us so long? I have lived in Duncanville since 2008 and didn't step foot in these doors until 3 months ago. Since then we have become regulars and I feel as though a little part of my heart as been filled. I need to forewarn you though, if you aren't into Karaoke, do not attend on Friday nights. It gets very busy and very loud...it's our favorite night of the week to go! Not your scene, save your visit for any other night of the week. The community has a blast on Friday nights, so feel free to come give it a try. Let's talk straight...the FOOD...I have tried a few things on the menu and keep coming back for the Caldo De Res. I crave it all week and can't wait for my Friday Fix. Just add a little of their green salsa/sauce and BAM perfection in a bowl. If you like it spicy, ask for the green! Speaking of salsa, their chips and salsa are PERFECT, so perfect you could practically bath in it. Since we are talking straight and keeping it real in this review, I want to address the masterpiece that is the tamale at Plato Loco...three words...To Die For! The other half has ventured out further than I and tried many things on the menu, all of which he has been very happy with, and he's the "picky" eater. The fun doesn't stop there, they have daily drink specials too! Beer, wine, margarita's. We usually start off with a beer and a shot of the house tequila. Moving on, let's discuss the establishment. It's not fancy but I'm assuming you gathered that when I said they had Karaoke on Fridays, this is a "hometown" atmosphere. Come for the food, not the décor! The wait staff are SUPER people. Plato Loco is family owned and operated and many of the family members work here. Our personal favorites are Nina and Jose but all the staff have a special place in our hearts. That sounds something like a crazy plate might do."... but I'm here to tell you, Plato Loco is worth going to, despite any possibility of being shanked by dishware. As my profile quote suggests, I'm a big lover of Tex-Mex, and Plato Loco (to put it simply) is the best Tex-Mex restaurant around. The restaurants dinner selections is solid Tex-Mex, and while not original from any other Tex-Mex you'll find, they are done right. There's no weak spots here. So what, you may again ask, sets Plato Loco apart? It's the salsa! It's nothing less than the most mouthwatering, eye watering, make you feel funny in special places salsa I've ever eaten; and if that's not enough, Plato Loco had the ingenious idea to give you a pitcher of the stuff, so you don't have to continuously ask your waiter for more. So, the food is solid and the salsa is great. How about the pricing? And the service? Well, I'll forgive your abundance of questions and answer... I'm pleased to say, neither of those falls short. You'll spend just a tad under what you'd come to expect from the other (already decently priced) Tex-Mex joints in the area, and you'll be served with kindness. In fact, I've never seen the place crowded in my life, so the waiters are free to focus their attention on you. Let's just hope that the lack of crowds doesn't mean this place is in threat of going out of business; because that would drive yours truly loco, just like those darn plates. read more

Went here on Friday night. The place was packed! There was karaoke....very, very loud karaoke. We were able to sit on the "patio" where we could hold a conversation, but unfortunately (or fortunately depending on what you like) they closed in the entire patio, so it's pretty much just another room. Hands down the best Mexican restaurant that I have found in the southern Dallas area. The margaritas is what got me! I stayed up for maybe an hour on their Yelp page looking at the different margaritas everyone had and I just had to get one. The day that I went they happen to have a cherry limeade Margarita on sale for $3.95. It was so worth it! It was in a big glass, it tasted freshly made and I was still able to tell there was alcohol (not in a bad way.) Their food is very reasonably priced and it seem like they had a great variety of everything. Chips and salsa we're on point. And the service was awesome! The enchilada plate that I had was delicious, however the spinach queso dip was not my favorite. Online it looked more like queso with spinach in it but in person it was a dark green color and it taste like the earthy part of spinach LOL but I still ate it and they still will get a five stars for me.
