Hands down, this place is amazing and that's saying a lot because I don't even like Mexican food like that. The grilled shrimp nachos are the bomb. So flavorful and absolutely delicious. I stopped in because I was starving and needed lunch, sat at the bar, and when I say the service was 1000% on point, I truly mean it. I ordered my food to go and also got a drink to go, and while I was waiting, the bartender made me a small drink to enjoy at the bar. That was such a thoughtful touch. He also gave me chips and salsa and was extremely attentive and genuinely nice the entire time. I love good customer service, so I will absolutely rave about this place. We wanted to give the Veracruz Cafe a try. First thing First. The SERVICE was GREAT! We walked in the door and everyone we came in contact with was Great. Chips and salsa hit the table within moments of sitting as well as our water. Our server was on it! Excluding waiting on our to go order of Tres Leches, service was fast. The atmosphere is warm and comfortable and looked very clean. I ordered the Birria tacos and they were nicely prepared. The broth could have been a bit better but overall they were good. My wife enjoyed her Conquistadors tocos as well . She also had the Tres Leches and said it was really delicious! She Loves/knows her dessert so I'm saying it must have been good. Veracruz Cafe was very crowded yet with no wait on a Sunday around lunchtime. We came in after a hike in the nearby Cedar Ridge Preserve. The shrimp tacos were really yummy, particularly the shrimp which were juicy and plump and cooked to perfection. That was the standout part of the meal. The tortillas they came in were really greasy, which was a con for me. Tortillas are perfect as they are; no need to drench them in oil. My dining partner also commented that his meal was unnecessarily oily. The beans and rice were tasty. I found the black beans to be almost a bit puréed/ missing that actual bean texture, but the flavor was there. Ambiance was fitting for a Mexican food restaurant, but the TV station selection was interesting- a game show in Spanish and Ms. Rachel for the kids, all in one room. It was loud in the establishment due to large crowds in more limited space, but not so bad I couldn't hear the person I was dining with. Not quite as good as Meso Maya, but similar genre of food. Prices pretty comparable to Meso Maya, maybe a hair higher. Didn't realize this was also a chain. Probably one of the better places to eat in the area and definitely satisfied my craving for some tacos! Give it a shot! Our server was friendly though I think had trouble hearing some of the things we were communicating. Overall we really enjoyed our meal here, and Veracruz earns a solid four stars. read more

I haven't been to Veracruz in such a long time. Decided to stop in Saturday. Still nice and friendly. Low music, clean establishment, and good food. I had the ceviche tostadas and my friend had an appetizer platter. Their ceviche tostadas are some of the best. Taste very fresh and citrusy. Those Mexican eggrolls aka their Jarochitos are so good! We also had a couple of drinks, Mexican mojito and pica fresca. Really good drinks and great on the alcohol. Now I will say that my friend and I were conversing and a waitress (not out waiter) came and asked me if I wanted another, I declined and she took my drink. I still had drink in my cup and was still drinking from it. Kinda rude. So we did feel like she wanted us gone. So we left. My friend decided not to order another once she did that. First impression was bad from the beginning. Stood at the door and was not acknowledged for several minutes. It was a Friday night so I can forgive that. The place is loud, not like average loud but like nightclub loud. Either the acoustics are just THAT bad or everyone was shouting at each other. The food was WAY overpriced for what it was. Food - Very tasty. Party had the queso dip with ground beef, house margarita, mango margarita, chicken (fajita) enchiladas, and beef (fajita) enchilada trio. Everything came out quick and the presentation of the main dish was excellent. Flavor was excellent on everything. Nothing was soaked in grease, oil, or anything like that. It was fresh. Wife and I were actually impressed for a local spot. Margaritas were just right. Not overpowering but still had a "kick". Wife said the queso reminded her of Velvetta dip, which isn't necessarily bad thing (it was good and tasted fresh). This may have been the only "low" point but it wasn't bad by any means. It just isn't some white cheese or pretending to be something else. It was yellow cheese queso, straight to the point. On the food alone, we said we'd be back. Enchiladas were made with blue corn tortillas. Really enjoyed how the dish was presented and the sides (black refried beans), greens, green or red sauce (chose green). In addition to the server there is a person that comes around to keep the salsa, chips and drinks topped off. Seating options include: inside- tables and the bar, as well as outside tables. The food is very good - I have never had a bad experience with their food or service. I always get the same drink - Sangria Swirl - it never misses. However, I went on a Thursday (I believe), they had a DJ and it was sooooo loud (the restaurant is not that big for the huge sound). I am always for a good party: music, food, fun and beverages=party. But this was ridiculous. My friends and I could barely hear each at the table (and we weren't the only table struggling to hear.) When we asked them to turn the music down - the manager refused. That was a bummer and turnoff!! I'll start by setting the scene and context: We went on a Friday night so it was pretty busy - I was with my wife, my mother-in-law, brother-in-law and his wife and two of their three kids (the middle one is turning 5 tomorrow so we are on two-day celebration type energy for her and this is day 1 of 2), and my wife's aunt. The wait was surprisingly not long, although initially they were unable to give an estimate as to how long the wait, and ten mins after that when we asked again they said 20 minutes. But a table was actually ready 5 minutes later, and the service was a little bit faster than the speed you would expect on a Friday night, so not bad. Like any Tex-mex restaurant, they served chips and salsa at no cost. The salsa was decent, not poor but not exceptional, but it was something to snack on while we waited for food. I started with a strawberry margarita on the rocks, with Casamigos tequila instead of the house. It was decently mixed and fairly strong, which I appreciated. My wife got a tamarind margarita on the rocks and that was actually very good and tasted just like a tamarind flavor Jarritos. I ordered the El Borracho Del Pueblo ($17.50), which was carne asada marinated in tequila and lime juice topped with grilled onions and jalapeno, served with a cheese enchilada, a gordita, and black beans. It was ok - the carne asada was kind of thin and the gordita didn't have much flavor, and it didn't come with the cheese enchilada lol. My wife got something similar (Cecina for $17.50), and her carne asada was also pretty thin and tasted mildly different. My sister in law got the Jarochitas ($11.50) appetizer for her meal and that was probably the best thing I had. They were "Mexican egg rolls" stuffed with cheese, chicken, and spinach. Very good. I would go here again but mainly for the drinks, and I would try something different to eat. Out of 5, I would rate this a 3/5; out of 10, I would give it a 6.5/10. read more

When I entered the restaurant I was instantly transported with lively music, colorful art, and relaxing ambience. Unfortunately the experience went down hill from there. Chips and salsa arrived swiftly and was quite spicy and the wait for water seemed unnecessary as there was only a handful of guest. I ordered the cactus salad with chicken and was left dissatisfied. The chicken was dry and had no flavor, the star of the show, the cactus was hidden under a mountain of spinach, and the salad dressing provided no addition to the taste. The servers were very friendly and made sure drinks and food were good. They brought out chips and salsa. The chips were crunchy and the salsa flavorful. We ordered strawberry margaritas. Dinner was the Pescada Almendrada. The fish was absolutely delicious! The vegetables were also delicious and had lots of flavor! The potatoes were ok, but a little oily and could have been crispier. Yum yum yum yum yum! We ordered this restaurant for takeout on a Friday evening and everything was superb! The food was packaged tightly so that nothing would spill during the drive home.
