Veracruz is located in a neat area that shares outdoor communal tables with another restaurant. It's essentially a taco truck but permanently stationed in somewhat of a campsite with the dirt paths. Coming from LA, I have high standards when it comes to my tacos but this place delivered. If you're a fan of spicy, the salsa definitely has a kick. Veracruz's truck is tucked away in the patio area of Radio Coffee and Bar - tons of shaded seating available! Service was quick on a Friday afternoon. The al pastor was packed with meat, cilantro, onions, and pineapple. The meat was well marinated and the green sauce provided a perfect kick! I would get this again. The breakfast taco wasn't my favorite, but maybe I'm just not a breakfast taco person. It was definitely very filling. I was stuffed after two tacos! Veracruz satisfied my taco cravings, and I'd come again next time I'm in the area. The online order and pick up was super easy. We ordered the El Sancho and El Tradicional tacos, which came with their delicious salsas on the side. The tacos were so hot and fresh, and incredibly flavorful and filling. The salsas really pushed the taste experience over the edge, and I wish I could have brought those salsas with me to put on everything. This is another Austin staple that we visit every time we're in town. I always get a Migas Poblano taco and a Pink Panther smoothie, then will select a wild card from the menu. My most recent favorite was the shrimp with salsa macha, which had an almost chili crisp-esque quality that made me immediately want to buy a jar. Ambiance of this place is pretty cool. It's a group of food trucks surrounding some seating and a bar. Service was quick and they were friendly. The tacos were not bad however, it's not really something I would return to. I tried 4 different tacos and the flavors weren't as cohesive as they had the potential to be. The ingredients felt a little separate and weren't totally balanced. One of the tacos I had was the shrimp macha taco. The sauce overshadowed the shrimp and the other ingredients that it had (rice, avocado, and green onions). The other ingredients felt thrown in there rather than complimentary. The overall experience felt more like eating shrimp drowned in sauce with a tortilla, rather than a cohesive taco where every element enhances the flavor. I wasn't a fan of the rice in the shrimp taco. It was sticky, and the taco tasted better without it. There was very little pineapple in the al pastor taco, but I still preferred it over the shrimp one. They're not the best tacos, but I enjoyed them and it was worth it to check out the area. This is one of several food trucks in front of Radio Coffee & Beer. There's lots of outdoor seating and a really nice atmosphere. One drawback is parking - they have very few parking spots in the front, and a small parking lot in the back that was almost full on a Tuesday afternoon. I ordered the chicken quesadillas (with no lettuce), but what I received was some afternoon delight! This dish was filling, and what I love even more was that there were plenty of condiments for the entire quesadilla! Some places can be quite skimpy on them, but today, I was able to enjoy each bite with a guacamole/ sour cream/pico/ sauce combo, until the end. While I was in Austin, I had a couple coworkers recommend going to Radio Coffee & Beer - not for the beer garden but for the Veracruz taco truck located there. I was excited to find another great taco spot in Austin and Veracruz did not disappoint. I've been twice now and tried almost half the menu. The salsas are really special and complement the tacos well. The red salsa is smoky and spicy from the roasted chilies, while the green one seems to be avocado-based and is perfectly mild and creamy. I've had the barbacoa, steak, al pastor, shrimp macha, and el sancho tacos as well as the chicken quesadilla. The barbacoa and al pastor were especially hefty, messy tacos, with great portions of meat. The home-made corn tortillas had no chance of holding up against the gelatinous and fatty cow head, but that's worth it for the flavor. In comparison, the shrimp and el sancho were a little less fatty and saucy - a bit easier to eat while trying to have a conversation and drink beer at the same time.
