Toby, due to her particular preferences, never had a lobster roll or even a tail. Her first encounter with ordering it herself was a lobster bisque in or around Indianapolis. My first encounter with ordering it myself was having a whole lobster with some high school friends near San Francisco back in the 90's. That one was delicious, but I think my favorite vehicle for lobster delivery these days is the lowly lobster roll, especially a good Maine-style lobster roll. Don't mistake me, she and I both love a good lobster mac or, yes, a good lobster bisque. But there's just something about a chilled lobster sandwich that does it for me. Lobster Boss has a supreme lobster roll, exemplifying the best aspects of a Maine-style example. The chunky meat is super plentiful and every bite tastes like you're indulging in something dangerous and intoxicating. It's chilled like you're eating some sort of deli sandwich, but the meat comes out thick like you piled the meat instead of sliced it, and the entree is better for that distinction. The fries on the side were great too.. Double-fried and double fine--it pairs great with the star attraction. In fact, the only thing I during care for was the salad. It looked unappetizing and, thanks to the corn, tasted twice as bad. Luckily, I was able to hide it with a few napkins and it stopped ruining my appetite. Next time, now that I know, I'll just ask for more fries instead or, at worst, just not to plate the salad at all. The bisque itself was great too. In fact, the only thing more you could ask for is more lobster pieces. But that's every bisque à la lobster. The service was amazing. Both employees were talkative and warm. They answered questions, gave refills on the soda, and were just plain out to make the meal enjoyable. I reckon they made the meal three times better by being so approachable and professional. Lastly, the ambiance was great. They had plenty of room and it never felt overwhelming with the noise of the other customers. I loved being able to let my guard down and just relish my meal slowly without fear of them wanting to turn the table over. All in all, I could get used to lobster rolls from here and, when Toby is in town, I plan to take her there to see what she thinks of the bisque and Mac since she eats a lot more of those compared to me. That's the thing about lobster, there's a preparation for everyone and Lobster Boss is the perfect lobster joint to remind everyone of that.
