We've tried to give the Dip a chance so many times, but we're always disappointed. It always takes at least 30 minutes for a burger and fries when there aren't even any other customers there. I always see people leaving the drive through after they order because it takes forever. The food is so expensive and not even that good. Customer service is poor. This is a local favorite-- been coming for years but never reviewed! Almost all the food or ice cream I have had had been great. They are sometimes slow but are polite if you inquire about how long the wait was and one time when it was reallllly slow, they gave me a free dippy dough (my fave of the hand scooped). The Wop Bop and espresso drinks are my other favorites. Also if you call in an order, be prepared to wait. They still won't have it ready and then if you preorder ice cream with it, they don't do it until you come which is fine except then you are put in line with whoever was already waiting so you might as well have not called your order in. So i purchased 2 ice creams for $16. Well i asked for a small and a baby sized cup. i got two smalls instead. on top of that,, one spilled all over my car and clothes. mind you, not his fault. but the dude watched us spill it and continued to walk by the window as we sat there not offering napkins or seeing what we might need. i asked very nicely if he minded remaking one since we just spent almost $20 on two icecream cups (which in and of itself is mind blowing). he denied remaking it saying after it leaves the window it's not on them. which i GET, however, i feel like any business that has good customer service (especially after the place's reputation) would've fixed it. i really used to enjoy this place , which is why i payed the high prices, but i won't be coming back, sadly. read more

You can pretty much get any ice cream flavor, or combination of flavors, imaginable! Ice cream, shakes, malts, or concretes (which is just a very thick shake) and slushes are out of this world! They also have burgers, dogs, chili cheese fries, and other typical foods for this style restaurant. It's so much better than any competitors, and they are certainly not skimpy with it. Just do yourself a favor and order one of everything. You won't be disappointed! It is a tad bit pricey for this type of place, but you get free ice cream with a $25 purchase. Very rude owner ..yelled at my kids for standing in the very small and cramped parkig lot. Food was not even fully cooked, hamburger still raw in middle and fries covered in grease. Very hard place to get in and out of parking lot. Saw an accident happen right there because of parking issue. This vintage fast food joint puts Sonic to shame with their vast variety of drinks, shakes, ice cream, slushes, burgers, egg rolls, pizza sticks, poppers, fries, burgers, dogs, and on and on and on! The Dip is unique in it's own savvy menu that is dazzled with the creative menu options for the food and drinks! I love how they have hand drawn poster boards of specialty drink names! They would usually create a special drink and name it after whatever recent feature film that is in the movie theaters. Currently "The Green Lantern" drink is offered. Here you can get a huge array of burgers (the Italian Burger is amazing) as well as philly sandwiches. As a local, I can tell you this place is hit or miss. Some days the service is good & some days it sux! Their ice cream is delicious, but pricey. My favorite is the real fruit strawberry cream slush & real fruit Hawaiian smoothie. My husband cannot seem to find a fave among their massive menu of flavors that scream "Kid Zone", like the Scooby Doo or Elmer Fudd. Honestly, they have combinations mixed with icream that I would never dream of mixing together; but hey, to each their own! On the main food front, it's your typical high fat, high cholesterol, high calorie fare. They certainly could make the chicken philly & grilled chicken sand less greasy, but they didn't ask me. The fries are average, but be careful of how you order; because you'll get enough to share. This place is usually pretty crowded with limited options of parking, so don't expect to easily park your over-sized truck or SUV in the front. Velvet Cream "The Dip" is a must-see for all visitors in Hernando and a staple of the city. Their menu is massive and their options are always good. While the prices could be better and waiting times can definitely be a drag, the quality of the ice cream usually can convince you to forget about it and go about your business. But as a few other reviewers have said, some of the employees can get quite rude and ridiculous if you call them out on a mistake. I had an awful experience one night when me and my girlfriend decided to get a couple of "concretes" to pass the time. We got on the drive-through line and waited. After 15 minutes or so, we finally got to the drive through, but we were told to hold. For some unknown reason they had us waiting with the car running while people behind us kept moving forward and getting their orders. About 15-20 more minutes passed and finally we got our stuff, but no explanation or apology for making us waste all that time waiting for something that usually takes 5 to 10 minutes to make. As we start driving away, I try my concrete (vanilla with Twinkie and Captain Crunch) and it is weirdly spicy. At first I thought it was my imagination, but my girlfriend tries it and thinks the same. I turned back, drove all the way back to the place, and told then my order was wrong in the regular window. First they were incredulous, but they finally took it back, making me wait another 10-15 minutes for a new one and yet again with no apologies, just a cold "here you go". According to them, somebody heard me say that I wanted a "vanilla chili pepper with captain crunch". How on earth can someone confuse "Twinkie" with "Chili Pepper" ? I've been going to Velvet Cream since I was just old enough to walk and I'm almost 29 now. Where to start? Well, the other reviewers did a good job of covering what Velvet Cream is all about. They definitely put Sonic to shame when it comes to not only food quality, but portions as well. If my girlfriend and I go down to the Dip, we have to share an order of fries because one order is so big. Of all the years I've been coming here, I don't think I've ever had a bad experience. The service can be a little slow, but that's because they're actually cooking the food and not just reheating stuff on heater lamps (plus, it's worth the wait). The quality has been consistent the 20+ years I've been coming here. The menu is by far the largest menu I've ever seen at any place in my life. The hand-drawn signs are a slightly corny, but cute touch. My suggested items: any of the burgers (they're all good), Philly wrap (beef, chicken, or turkey; it's tasty and it's huge), the mixed cones (I mean, you don't drive down to Hernando and go to the Dip and *not* get a mixed cone if it's your first time), and the Purple Cow (hands down my favorite milkshake ever). It's a shame this place is now a 40 mile drive from where I live, but just about any time I'm in DeSoto County, I usually make it a point to go there to at least get a Purple Cow.
