Caribbean Vegan Paradise. Juice bar and Frozen Food section as well as Vegetarian products like veggie burgers, organic pastas. Super nice helpful staff and lots of street parking available. What calls me here is the excellent hot food takeout available with a changing variety of dishes, Ital stew, Eggplant melange, Pepper "steak", to name a few. Small, Medium and Large portions up to $11 in cost. Vegan desserts too!

So I've been following a path to a new diet which led me to a vegan diet. After two months of cooking my own meals and buying stuff in the store, I needed to start venturing out and finding places that is close to my house to cook meals that are vegan friendly. I found a place close to my job via a friend who has been doing vegan diet for about five years now this place is amazing. To be honest with you I'm not accustomed to Caribbean or Jamaican Food but I was able to ask the server behind the counter which was what, as far as the hot food that was for lunch behind the glass. To my knowledge I had some curry pumpkin ,vegan ribs, rice and cabbage it was excellent the cabbage was a little hard but everything else was spot on. The vegan vegetable patty was amazing definitely going back there today.

Vegan whole grain porridge!!! Love that you can choose between sweet or unsweetened and even half and half

Block of breaded/fried tofu $2.25 Vegan Veggie Fritter Patty $1.10 Small Vegan Whole Grain Porridge $3.75 WHAT?!!! When do vegans EVER find prices this affordable!m?!! This place is a gem! They are very patient, efficient and kind! The porridge was tasty. I was able to choose between sweetened , unsweetened and "half and half". The small is filling! The block of breaded/fried tofu is perfectly seasoned. I ate it PLAIN and was blown away by how flavorful it was without any sauce or other additives!!! The fritter was a nice light, spicy kick. Not greasy or oily and very tasty too! A light crunch and little chewiness. Perfect balance! I am sitting here satisfied and delighted! The place was packed at 10:30am so I will take a leap and guess that if you get there in the later afternoon you may miss out! It seems they also change up their menu daily. Can't wait to eat here again!

I really like this place - it's one of the few places that actually carries ackee patties. I LOVE ackee but usually I only find it on menus, coupled with saltfish. Ackee is quite expensive (I've seen 14oz cans of it go for $7 or $8!) so I think that is what deters restaurants from serving it and customers from buying it. The ackee patties here run $3.50, which is significantly more expensive than the $2 callaloo, peas, tofu, or other patties, but I think they are worth it. I also had some food from the hot bar last time and it was pretty similar to the hot bars in all the Bronx Jamaican places - curried tofu, lots of faux meats, white pasta (similar to Chinese lo mein), and rice. I went with the BBQ tofu, which was good, the potato salad, which was also really good (so glad they have a vegan, mayo-based salad), and the eggplant, which was okay. The store is pretty well stocked with all sorts of canned, packaged, and frozen foods, plus lots of teas, protein powers, and vitamins. Like most small health food stores, the prices are a little high but it's the only option in the area so I am very glad they are here and offer so many items. NOTE: There is no dining area. You can only get your food to go.

I was in Colorado for a while and got exposed to vegan food so when I came back to The Bronx I was in search for vegan spot to raid and to my surprise I found one not too far from my house the food was amazing I got the Curry seitan W/ stew lentils Brown rice and peas potato salad and dasheen also with a soy patty The second I bit into the Patty I knew I should've gotten more food The service is what you expect from older West Indians kind a snobby and rude but that's how you know the food is great all around

This place is charming and totally unexpected in this neighborhood. Came in to kill some time before work one day and munched on their ackee patty and ordered a kale patty for later. They were really delicious and light yet filling. Most people come here for takeout but they have a small counter seating section by the window with an accessible outlet for charging devices and what not.

The dining room is spacious and with a nice ambience between the lighting and artwork of willow trees. For dinner - I had the whiskey BBQ brisket and fries. The texture and taste of the "meat" was fantastic. Most meat eaters wouldn't even realize that they are eating plant-based brisket - it was that good! Our server "Teddy" was attentive, informative, friendly - and with a clever sense of humor. The price paid was commensurate for the quality of food and service received. Vegans, omnivores, and explorers alike - should try Willow Vegan Bistro!

This sandwich is usually not something that is available vegetarian so i was curious to see the flavors and textures. The steak is chewy and meaty so if you are not a fan of faux meat then i would proceed with caution. I enjoy the cheeses here as they are unique and different from each other. The sandwich overall was okay though not my favorite sandwich ever. - smoked Mac and cheese (7/10): macaroni with smoked goat cheese, cheddar, mozzarella baked in a cast iron skillet and topped with vegan pancetta and breadcrumbs. This was a cozy appetizer especially on a cold day. The flavors of the cheese are rich and smoky with a hint of saltiness from the pancetta and breadcrumbs. I would have liked it to be a larger portion and offered as an entree. WOULD I GO BACK? Maybe. I liked the ambiance and the option to try dishes that are usually meat heavy but the cuisine is not my personal favorite.

They take pride in their restaurant's offerings, as they should. My server was wonderful, offering suggestions to this first-timer. I started with a Volcano Roll - hearts of palm substituting for fish. Well balanced and delicious. Next was broccoli "beef" - fresh broccoli and shitake "steak" with mushrooms really balanced the dish. I ended with something so unnecessary and so wonderful, I'm glad I did it: The sticky toffee pudding. Just pure delight. It was relatively quiet when I was there. I could see how it could get a bit noisy if it were crowded. But even so, the people who visit are friendly and I ended up having a great conversation with the table next to me. I'll be back. I'm not exactly local, but it's definitely worth the trip! Planta is on my faves list now!

Funny enough, we met our only other vegan friend there. So, from the vegan perspective, this is a popular and tasty place. We started with drinks, being lunchtime, we opted for non alcoholic drinks, the matcha colada and the salty maple macchiato. The matcha colada had a nice color but tasted mostly like coconut and pineapple which was still yummy. Friends ordered 3 different kinds of sushi and dan dan noodles with tofu. I was confused with the sushi as I thought vegans didn't eat fish...so yes I asked and was told that they probably made the "fish" with tapioca. I did try a bite of each roll (I was still full from the fest) and I was surprised that it tasted pretty good. They did a nice job with the roll and presentation. The matcha cheesecake was nice and creamy. I would not have known it was vegan. I don't normally like food that pretends to be something else because it usually doesn't live up to the real thing. The idea is that it is not pretending to be something but rather substituting with vegan options, I do think from a health perspective, I am more open to trying more vegan foods. Ambiance felt upscale and wait staff were helpful and congenial. I hear dinner time gets packed here. I may have to try again when I have not eaten already.

The space was super clean, calm, and had a vibe that felt authentic to the cuisine. The staff was also incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and fast, which made the whole experience even better. But the food is what really blew me away. I got the Korean Wild Green Tea First Picked, and it was unreal. Yes, it had that beautiful green tea character, but it was so much more layered than that--smooth, complex, almost naturally sweet, and honestly one of the most memorable teas I've had anywhere. I also ordered the iced matcha latte, and it was easily the best matcha latte I've ever had: no grittiness at all, just incredibly smooth, creamy, and perfectly balanced. We also had the baby dumplings in spicy sauce, popcorn shrimp, fried Manchurian cauliflower, spicy kimchi pancakes, Peking duck baos, and the duck rice bowl. Every single dish was excellent. I'm still baffled by how well they nailed the shrimp texture--seriously impressive. The flavors across the board were rich, creative, and satisfying without feeling heavy. If you're in Murray Hill and want a standout vegan lunch or dinner, or you're just looking for one of the best plant-based restaurants in Manhattan, Franchia is absolutely worth going out of your way for.
