Especially while it is pipping hot, the beef was so flavorful with all the right spices. The crust was not too thick, perfectly flaky. I went on a party haul for a lack of better terms and got several of each flavor. The beef- pretty good, but I personally like the one at Kingston Bakery Harlem significantly more. The one here is too mushy inside truth be told. Kingston Bakery Harlem has the perfect consistency and right amount of spice. The vegetable- also pretty good, but could have had more flavor. I did like that they gave more than enough veggies. As I am a huge Jamaican patty fan, I will say that the best vegetable patty that I've had is at One Stop Patty Shop in Harlem. The seasoning is perfect, it is not dry, and the corn gives it a nice touch. The chicken- this totally makes up for the beef and the vegetable patties as it was the best by far. The chicken was very flavorful and not mushy at all. It is easily the best Jamaica chicken patty that I've had. I saw a food reviewer on instagram show off the food and I happen to be in the area same day so I said let's do it. I got all 4 types of patties. Beef, chicken, vegetable & meatloaf. They go for $3.50 each. The meatloaf is a bit larger and goes for $4. The beef was solid 100%. The chicken was good. The veggy although season well and spicy wasn't my cup of tea. Cabbagy and sauerkraut like IMO. The meatloaf tasted great but there was barely any meat filling which was a disappointment. If it was filled as generous as the beef patty, it would have been a homerun. There was no line as others have mentioned. I was in and out in 2 min. Others mention a less than friendly staff. I have to sadly agree. I don't need the red carpet rolled out and a Colgate smile ear to ear but you also don't have to be a stone faced grump. I would def go back for the beef patties. I took the hint and finally visited on a Saturday afternoon. The bakery is in the heart of the Caribbean community in the Bronx. Street parking was plentiful however, I'm not so sure if that was a rare occurrence. As I stepped in, I felt a cozy presence. The shop is small but the fresh smell of baked goods is large! It reminded me of the patty shops in Jamaica. There was a line, nothing too crazy and it moved fast. Their menu is pretty basic, it includes a small variety of patties and some baked goods. I decided to go for their beef patty and cocoa bread. My order was up within seconds and I paid. I brought everything home to enjoy with my boyfriend. Firstly, the patties were fresh and hot. The crust is'nt as flaky as I like and what I am accustomed too however, the filling is delicious! It had a tasty blend of seasonings. From what I could see, there was some fresh herbs and onions used. To top it all off, the cocoa bread was heavenly! Now, I'm not a huge fan of cocoa bread because in the past, its either been dry or had a bland taste. Not at this bakery, the serving I received was nice and soft. It also had a tinge of sweetness, literally perfect. It's a pity I only bought 1 because my boyfriend and I were picking at it and trying to make it last between us lol. Overall, the meal was delicious! In terms of service, the staff were moving pretty quickly, so there wasn't much interaction however, they were kind. In terms of cost, I paid $10.50 for 2 patties and 1 cocoa bread. Pricing is a little on the higher side when compared to Golden Krust but I think the quality is worth it. Unfortunately, it is a cash only establishment, so be prepared. They offer an ATM inside if needed. Overall, it was a good visit. I had to visit the adjacent fabric store several times while helping my son with his Halloween costume. During our first visit to the area, I picked up some patties from my usual goto, Champion Bakery, which is down the street. That used to be a staple for my family, especially whenever we had functions. We would always get cocktail patties for parties and get togethers. I remember a friend telling me that Tropical was good but I hadn't had them in years. Champion has been falling off IMO because their patties are all dough and hardly any fill. Their cocktail patties have become dry as well. I decided to check out Tropical in a later visit. My kids also had the opportunity to try both and I have to say that from now on I will be getting my patties and coco bread from Tropical going forward. Their patties are spicy and FULL! The young lady and the guy that takes your order has ZERO personality and doesn't seem to care about your matters, it's literally like talking to two stones, they have not a care in the world, plus they charge 50 cents for a bag in this place, one of the reasons I started limiting my visits here. And please, put those two people at the front in the back somewhere where people won't have to see or deal with them! The food is great, but service for me speaks volume, the way you interact with your patrons is very important for business and that for me at this place is very poor. I was helped by both a man and a woman, but unfortunately, neither of them smiled, spoke, or displayed even basic customer service skills. The man, in particular, had a facial expression that came across as angry or hostile. Honestly, I felt like a character in the Soup Nazi episode from Seinfeld--. (No offense to anyone. Just a joke.) To make matters worse, my friend, who accompanied me, went back in to purchase a few more things. When he asked the male employee a simple question to confirm the order, the response was, "You got what you asked for." That was unnecessarily rude. I was able to smell the goods down the street as I walked towards the bakery. There was a long line but it moved fast. It's cash only but they have an ATM available. I ordered a dozen beef and then 2 veggie and 2 meatloaf just to try. The meatloaf I thought would be a patty with an actual meatloaf inside. It wasn't lol. It's the beef patty filling baked inside of a coco bread. The veggie was delightful and very well seasoned. The star of the show however and of course was the beef. I was worried at first cause they didn't have spicy or mild selections like other places, because I usually get the spicy. Theirs however has the perfect spice to it. The crust was slightly sweet and it was definitely filled. I happened to be on my way to the bronx, my wife remembered that this place was in her list spots for best jamaican patties. So we got a few patties, coco bread and a kola champagne and we snack while parked right outside in the corner. The bread was warm, out of the oven, there was a line out the door to get into the store, but i have to say the trip and the wait was definitely worth it.
