The 4 stars is for the bread !! Not sure how they make it ‍. What I don't get about the lady's that work here is that they put on a glove for show cause the hand that has the glove on it they not using to touch the food . This store is the breakfast plug. They have breakfast up until 1:30pm. The prices are really reasonable. I can get homefries, eggs, meat, juice and butter bread for only 5 bucks. The ladies and gentleman that work there are friendly, the food is great. They made a mistake one time but I'll forgive them lol. It gets so crowded so I understand. So on the crowded part. My favorite thing here is the whole wheat bread with tuna fish. The best part is that they make this very special, very delicious, one of a kind whole wheat bread that melts in your mouth. This is the worse bakery I've been too!!!!. This bakery was recommended too me and I wish it wasn't. There girls who take orders are nice but the food is bad. I ordered a treas leches cake and I got some dry cake with no flavor the coloring was horrible it stayed for two days on face, teeth, and hands. It's like paint. I recommend National Bakery it's worth every dollar. I went to return this cake for some money back and they would not give me anything back. I was the first person on the line to order... A black woman. they ignored me and took everyone's order behind me, everyone else on the line was Hispanic and then they decided to come to me and ask for my order. it took forever to get my order. I Just felt like they were being racist. and now I see why there were no black people in the bakery because this is how we are treated in this place. Nothing screams childhood to me like "pan del bakery" (that's Spanglish for bread from the bakery). It doesn't matter where the bakery is in the South Bronx, warm fresh bread and strong sweet coffee are standard. I spent $11 for 2 salami & cheese pressed sandwiches, 2 buttered rolls, and 4 coffees. Their tres leches cake is also solid....you get a hulk of a slice, it's moist (but not soaked like traditional tres leches), and it's layered in custard cream. read more

Simple, but good! This was the first place I was taken when we landed in NY to grab some lunch. It closed in the middle of our trip for remodeling, so hopefully they've expanded their grill. Their sandwiches are simple, but delicious! We came by each day until the rehab. My girlfriend would order breakfast, but I was more than happy to have another hot sandwich instead. The ham and cheese was my favorite. The Cuban was ok, but being from Florida, I've had better. Theirs was a bit dry. I also enjoyed the salami and cheese. When you go in, the line is typically long. If you want just coffee or pastries, it's quicker to order. Everyone waited for the grill. I really hope they expanded it because it was tiny! There must have been 4 or 5 people trying to work around it. I don't know how they did it! A great local place. Stop in and give it a shot! read more

I wish I could give no stars. This was the worst experience ever! Not only did they forget to give me part of my order, they refused to accommodate me for the money I spent! When I asked for my money back, I was ignored! It wasn't until I got angry with them that they paid any attention. They asked me for my receipt, I gave it to them and they had the audacity to ask for it again as if I didn't just give it to them. They even pretended to not have it. I went back to get a Cuban sandwich. They keep these pre-made sandwiches in a refrigerator. I think anyone who's ever made a sandwich before knows that bread that's been put in the fridge will not have the same chewiness and texture as a freshly baked loaf, if only because the cold and humidity from the fridge changes the bread's consistency. Because of this I ask to have the bread for my sandwich replaced with a fresh loaf, which is readily and plenty abundant, and that I was more than willing to pay the for the added cost and inconvenience. I was told that I could not have it the way that I wanted because the owner does not allow it. I was dumbfounded by this response, so much so that I just had to ask if it was the owner that was going to eat it or me. I didn't think my request to be unreasonable, especially considering i was willing to pay whatever the cost would've been, but the attendant was adamant that it was 'forbidden' by the owner. Jeeez, it's almost like they go out of their way to piss off their customers when it's so simple to just say 'yes no problem' and make some extra revenue in the process. I just started working around here a few months ago. Here are the things you should know: -There is often a line. This is because this is one of the greatest places to eat in this neighborhood. -Their menu is limited for prepared food. They cook very few things. -The few things they cook are fucking great. Since I started going here for breakfast I have been ruined by this place, because I need to eat here every morning. Their fresh juices and shakes are the perfect start to your day, they use fresh ingredients and it's only 3 bucks! Most mornings I do Papaya & Strawberry with ice or Papaya with milk, but they do vegetable juices too and they're delicious, made fresh to order. I'm so used to places that tout fresh drinks cheaping you out on ingredients but this place is official. Take it from someone who worked for many years in restaurants: these girls know what they're doing. They whisk eggs to order (no big vat of previously whisked eggs), they're bacon is delicious and their bread...well, let's just say there's a reason they go through trays of it while you're on line, always baked fresh and constantly racked throughout the day. They're running all over the place around a tiny grill but they never ruin an order. Professionals all the way, and they should be praised. I typically go with a BEC on their awesome whole wheat rolls. The girls are cute and I think they make lighthearted fun of me because I always ask for a shake without sugar. If you work or live around here there is NO reason why you're not eating here every day. I love it. And their Cubano is delectable and puts many to shame.
