I'll start with my whole family & I have been a Valencia fan & customer for more than 40 years . I can say hands down all their cakes are fantastic. I went to the 9 w W burnside ave Bronx NY I ordered 2 dozens cupcakes I wanted that traditional Valencia taste. To my disappointment they were tuff so dry nobody even attempted to finish one. I call the store mine you I wasn't asking for a refund never mentioned that . I believe she was the owner didn't take it well . She said & I quote well maybe everyone didn't know how to eat them . We should've cut them & inverted them smh i said kids here we're not going to do that . Then she raved on how many orders a day come in& out and how one customer byes everyday that cupcake . Again I was polite reassuring her I loved Valencia & I said I wasn't trying & to insult her but she didn't for once apologize or take responsibility for her product or business. I'm so disappointed . To the new owner of Valencia, don't you care that some customers are unhappy? I too purchased cakes from this company as a child and have fond memories but for the past years your cakes are dry, which is an indication that they are old. I am a baker myself and as a baker I can tell you that after three days a cake is considered old because it doesn't have preservatives. Place stop mass production of cakes and fill every order as you receive them. I had t had Valencia cake since I was a child but found out they were still open on NY. As a treat to my God brother for his bday we went to dinner and topped it off with Valencia's pineapple cake. The family was so pleased as was I. The gentleman behind the counter was so helpful and friendly though we ran in at about 530p and they close at 6p. I haven't been to Valencia in YEARS. I was so happy to see that the pineapple cake was available in slices. The flavor was there, however I think it may have been a couple days old. If you happen to go, please order a slice of pineapple cake-just make sure it isn't a couple days old. I also got the tres leches-I've never tried their tres leches but that was the BEST tres leches I've ever had. The area isn't the greatest I'll say, but i didn't care-I was there for the desserts. I recommend just grabbing your desserts and enjoying elsewhere. If you happen to be in the area, this place is a must!! read more

I always use to come to this bakery but the new owner who used to own the little Caesars across the street have a nasty attitude and so does his wife. (has nothing to do with this experience but from prior experience) The most recent experience was the last officially! I came in to get a cake for my moms birthday who requested Valencia custard cake. I normally would go to the hunts point location but wasn't able to this day. Entering the location I hear a man yelling from the back, asking me which size cake I would like informing me they only had custard and pineapple. Which is fine because of Covid but what a weird Protocol. The rest of the exchange is normal but when I arrived home with the cake for my mom's birthday I realize it was a mistake. The Flowers on the cake looked dry making me feel that it was an old cake. After getting my slice and taking a bite I realize the cake tasted spoiled! I thought maybe it was just me but everyone else said it tasted weird including children!! We threw the whole cake away and will not return to that location. I picked up a birthday cake for my nephew in this location, the owner has no customer service skills what so ever. He started off by asking me not to lean on the counter, never greeted me, never even smiled. His responses were quick and almost dismissive...my best friend previously walked out because she couldn't deal with his attitude. I remained polite because we really needed to get this cake. The previous owner was a real gentleman. He knew and loved his customers, always greeted people with a warm smile and enjoyed conversations with everyone who entered his store, and his cakes were always fresh! He knew all our families, and people really loved him. I wish he would've shown this guy how to treat his customers. Now getting to the cake, it was extremely dry and tasted stale. The cake was absolutely DISGUSTING. I was told they couldn't do the lettering and it would be written in icing and requested PINK WRITING. We picked up a custom birthday cake for our son's first birthday earlier this month. It was a baby shark cake. It was beautiful. It was a tall cake with chocolate chips in the custard. I've been eating Valencia cakes since I was a kid growing up in the Bronx in my dominantly latino neighborhood especially the typical and most popular yellow cake with pineapple filling and slammin white icing. Ahhhhhhhhh. The yellow cake is so well made, soft and delicate that it literally will melt in your mouth. The pineapple so sweet and so tropical. There is nothing like it. The white sugar icing just puts it all together. It's a great combo of flavors. There are other fillings like guava, apricot, chocolate, strawberry, etc. But for me, I have to have the original pina filling. I am so glad to have reviewed Valencia cakes 1st on yelp. There are many bakeries through out the Bronx and I noticed some in Manny. There's also the Valencia factory in SoBro not too far from the Hunts Point area if you dare to go there. I highly recommend Valencia cakes. If you wanna be a New Yorker, you have to try it and indulge in Latin Amer flavor of baking! Me and this place go way back...okay not really way back more like 3 years back into time? Either way I put my full trust (and money) into this place twice! First time was in 2010 for my baby shower cake and they absolutely blew me away with how they duplicated the picture I had given them. It really brought my baby shower together! I was extremely satisfied. Fast forward 2 years later when my beautiful baby was turning two and I needed to get him a cake ASAP! I had this place in the back of my head ever since my baby shower and I knew that I was going to go back for his birthday cake. I ordered his two tier cake which featured two of Noel's favorite Yo Gabba Gabba friends, Muno and Plex. If I was satisfied for his baby shower cake I was greatly impressed for his birthday cake. They did an amazing job and the cake was also delicious! One tier was custard and the other strawberry! What I also love about this place is that it's close to home, The Bronx, and I don't need to search far and wide for a great cake. I've had Valencia cakes every single birthday for the last 24 years. My sister in law wanted a gender reveal cake for her reveal party and valencia was the first place thay came to mind. The cake was much nicer than I expected, considering I've never ordered a custom cake from Valencia. Upon placing my order I made sure to ask for a blue buttercream filling in order to reveal the gender of the baby. The request was written on the receipt and I thought everything would be smooth.The entire reveal portion was ruined because the buttercream filling was actually white and not blue :/ I haven't received a response to my email stating my concern and disappointment. I still love their cakes, but will be much more careful when ordering and make sure that my order is understood. read more

ADHD wasn't invented until my 5th birthday, when they made my Lisa Simpson cake for my Lisa Simpson-themed party, and 30 some odd kids in attendance each had a slice of this super moist, rich, insanely frosted confectionary delight. Ahh Valencia, I have such fond memories of this place when I was a kid. In the 70's and 80's Valencia was the definitive NYC Latino birthday party headquarters. You got a cake with the popular characters of the time (Transformers, Heman, A-Team), a gallon of vanilla ice cream and number candles. Also sugar flowers and small, hard, silver balls helped to decorate this sugar masterpiece. The neighborhood was always sketchy, I remember prostitutes flashing the cars as we drove by in broad day light. Valencia is located in the notorious Hunts Point section of the Bronx. Anyone unfamiliar with Hunts Point, watch the HBO documentary "Hookers at the Point" to get a quick education. After not having Valencias for 25 plus years, I tried a piece the other day and I was instantly transported back to my childhood. However, my taste buds have matured because damn that shit is sweet. Valencia is a great place to reminisce about your childhood. Just add gray Lee Jeans, a black turtleneck (rope chain on the outside) and a Hector Lavoe LP playing on a turntable (Todo tiene su final). read more

This is one of the few Valencia Bakeries in the Bronx. The cakes here are made with a unique style and flavor that no other bakery can match. I'm not saying this is the best bakery in the world, but just saying their cakes are unique. I have family that moved to Florida and California and they ask every once in a while if I can send them a cake! VERY FUNNY! I WISH! I placed a simple ordere for a strawberry filling cake for th next day . you would think they would be honest about their business practice. but no Th cake was hard, stale and dry . I called the store where i had purchased it at which was the one on 103rd street i spoke to the young girl who took my order she had nothing but a fresh mouth and and discustingly rude. i told her that they ruined my sons birthday and wanted either a fresh cake or money back I actually brought the cake back to the store so the girl can actually taste that it was old and stale she had the nerve to tell the so called manager that the cake tasted good lying twirp that was she is . it was a good thing i had restraint cause i think i would have splattered the cake in front of their entry way . i wasn't going to go to jail for a young twirp like that child if she would have been my daughter i would have slapped her straight to respect her elders. they need to fire that in-expereined twirp . and find another line of work. I love Valencia Cakes. I've been getting my birthday cakes from them since I was a child, and I am now 28, so regardless I'll always buy cakes from them. I don't have any nightmare customer service stories because they've been fairly pleasant with me. I would like to note that, as of recently there's a 50/50 chance that the cake might be dry. I've never done a custom ordered cake, so I can't speak for those. But the cakes you pick up, like the day of, there's a chance the cake may be slightly dry. When this occurs I bring the cake back, and exchange it for a new one, and I've never had any issues with that. It does put a small damper, just because of the hassle, but I love their cakes so its worth it in my opinion. I go to the location in burnside, so I can't speak for the other locations. read more

I ordered a 6" birthday cake from the Valencia Bakery at 159 East 103rd Street location and was extremely disappointed by the poor quality. I will offer several reasons why you should avoid this bakery and spend your money elsewhere. First, the cake's icing tasted like a metal with a bitter aftertaste. Second, the cake's filling was very watery. Third, the owner (Raul) displayed an aggressive, unapologetic and unfriendly attitude. I contacted the owner Raul via telephone and he asked me to bring the cake in person. I thought this was very unusual, but took the step to bring the cake in person as a matter of principle. Upon arrival at the bakery, I explained to Raul that the cake's icing had a bitter metal aftertaste and was very watery. I told him that this was not the cake that I was used to purchasing in the past. They were very sweet and had no unpleasant aftertaste. He decided to put his unhygienic index finger into the cake's icing and licked it, while stating, "it tastes good." Instead of apologizing and offering ways to make the situation better, Raul says the following, "what do you want me to do, cry?" I informed him that he should channel his energy and investigate the off-site location to determine the cake's unusual bitter aftertaste. He decides to antagonize further by stating, "what do you want me to do, leave the bakery alone?" Raul's comments were inappropriate and he displayed poor etiquette. Instead of addressing an issue that could potentially be harmful or a liability to his business, he decided to make matters worst. It appears Raul is aware of his awful tasting cakes, but chooses to ignore and correct the problem. Please review the one star reviews and you will notice a pattern that is very alarming. I will never buy another cake from Valencia Bakery or recommend it to anyone interested in purchasing one. Valencia Bakery is not what it used to be, it is a dying brand. The cakes are delicious but the service needs improvement. I sent my husband with a written note on what size, flavor and wording I wanted on my father's cake. He made the mistake of handing it to the man at the store and not viewing the cake before leaving. They only got the size right, they gave me the wrong filling (pineapple) after writing vanilla custard, which I called beforehand to confirm what flavors they had and choose from the 2 options THEY gave me. The most upsetting mistake was spelling the name wrong after it was written correctly on the paper. I did not discover this mistake until we opened the cake to sing happy birthday - how upsetting. Do not assume people have the experience or ability to read a note and follow instructions! I am debating on disputing this charge with my credit card company. read more

So dissapointed. My mother used to get me one of these cakes every year for my birthday. I havent had one in about 15 years. I saw some recent bad reviews, I decided to risk it anyway. I ordered a Custom cake, it wasnt the same. The cake didnt taste old like some people described, it just wasnt moist, it was dry and terrible. Cake mix out of a box tastes better. I was so excited when I made the trip from Jersey out to the Bronx just for this cake, I bought a readymade half cake from the fridge. That cake was even worse. I took one bite and threw it out.
