This location has been around for a very long time. They made my parents wedding cake, my mom's baby shower cake and all the cakes for my family events. We took it on a party boat and we all could not wait to get a piece. It was AS ALWAYS fresh and moist. What is all the "hoop-la" all about with this place? I have family and friends that have raved about this place for over 20 years. I finally got around to trying it and boy was I SO disappointed. I picked up a small cake and some "pastellio" pastries. The cake I have to say was awful (wasn't soft as I expected). The pastry I grabbed though was probably the best part because it was really, really good but that's just about where the goodness ended. The store looks exactly as the pictures shared here. There is a small room that showcases some of the larger cakes, then they have cards and other trinkets for sale in the main room. I'm guessing you either love these cakes or simply hate them. On October 28, 2019 placed an order for a 10" cake with Custard filling and a little mermaid design on it. These people had over a week to get it completed and failed. I arrived at 10:40 am on 11/4 and the design on the top isn't done. The name wasn't written on the plaque as requested. They write the name on top in the most disgusting handwriting. On top of that they look at other people to blame for their mistakes and the apology wasn't even sincere. How can you run a business and not check on orders on the day they get picked up to make sure everything is ready for the paying customer. I paid an extra $20 bucks for an image on the cake that was blurred. Either Valencia has cheap printers or their service has gone down the drain. I am a second generation Valencia customer. My father got every cake from there as I did too. But as of today that tradition has ended. Getting my refund wasn't enough, the ruined my daughters birthday celebration because of their lousy service and didn't even attempt to remedy the situation. My favorite Valencia location! This is not just cake.. this is like a part of every family gathering. These cakes are a must for every family occasion. The staff is great & the cakes Fresh! For years I have been buying Valencia cakes and never had a problem until yesterday. I have to agree with the other reviews that cakes ARE NOT the same. I got one about 4-5 months ago and still had no issues but the cake I got yesterday was Horrible. Dried, hard and not the same taste. it was a vanilla custard one. I called them to complain and they said bring it in which I did but instead of getting another cake that was already made I said let me order a Tres Leche where I know it will be made fresh and I can get it in the morning, meaning today Wednesday May 18. I go in and the lady takes some cake with her hand saying it's soft nothing is wrong with it. I pointed out it was hard but she insisted nothing was wrong and that it was fresh, she gave me the Tres Leche which I had to pay a difference for and I left. Now while being home and this "freshly made" cake gets cut it's the same problem. it doesn't even taste like their usual Tres Leche. It's still dry, still a bit hard and barely tastes like Tres Leche. I am very disappointed and will be contacting the manager or someone because I just wasted $38 on a 6 inch cake that is tasteless and dry. My family has been using Valencia bakery since I was a kid, but after the shenanigans they pulled this weekend, this may be the last time I use them. I made an order for a cake for a surprise bridal shower. The cake was to be delivered to a restaurant before 1 pm as the party would be starting then. I received a call at 10 am asking if the cake can be dropped off at the restaurant at 11 and I told them that would be perfect. I arrived at the restaurant only to be told that it was not delivered. I called Valencia several times only to be told "all of the deliveries are out for today" with no further information. I call again at 12 being told the same answer. As 1pm approached, I am still left with no clue where the cake is 2 hours later and not there in time for the arrival of the surprise guest. I called the main office and some woman named Nancy (who clearly hates her job) gave me the most disgusting attitude I have ever received from any business. She told me she can't contact delivery drivers and that she can't help me, which I feel is complete BS if you WORK IN THE OFFICE OF THE BAKERY!!! She even told me "bye" and hung up the phone on me mid sentence. She never called me back as promised and I had to continue to call in the hopes of finally getting to speak to someone that has decency and and understanding of customer service. I just ordered a cake for my parents' 40th anniversary. I wasn't sure what/ how to decorate it but I did know that I wanted to have a photo of my parents on the cake. The photo came out a little on the red side under certain lighting in the store (which really scared me initially) but when it photographed it was beyond beautiful. They added beautiful flowers, a decorative border, and placed additional decorations on the cake like little gem stones that just made the cake shine. I also asked for a smooth finish and it looked like the cake was done in fondant which really looked great. We asked for a pineapple and guava filling and they gave us two layers of pineapple filling and one of guava. The cake was moist and sweet. The cake was ready for me even though I was 2 hours early in picking it up. The staff is friendly and very helpful. I asked people about the Valencia Bakery headquarters in the Bronx because I have great childhood memories about there delicious cakes and the ice cream being delivered in dry ice. Some people told me that the original headquarters no longer exist and the bakeries that do carry them, cannot hold a candle to the ones from the headquarters. I am turning 60 years old soon and went on the computer to see if it was true that they had closed. To my most wonderful surprise they are up and running as usual.
