Needed a bike pump while we were up in Boulder. Of course Boulder had several bike shops in the area but we decided to stop here and are so glad we did! The worker was extremely friendly, immediately dropping what he was working on to help us, and pointed out all the bike pumps they had. He even took the time to explain the differences between all of them, including why the prices were higher on some than others. Great service, store was clean, and owner was friendly. Loved the old bikes & cycling gear hanging up around the shop. We would definitely visit this place again the next time we're in the area. read more

Although I live in NJ, this is the place where I've had all my road bike wheels built for over fifteen years, going back to when Peter ran the this long-standing bike shop. A boutique shop like Vecchio's has to be exemplary to survive amongst all the competition in Boulder, the cycling capital of the USA, and they are. I'm an old-school graybeard, and will always ride handmade wheels built by an artisan like Jim, versus some plastic, overpriced box wheels mass-produced in China. Built to my specifications--rims, spokes, and pattern on my vintage hubs. Vecchio's custom wheels have lasted me many tens of thousands of miles, and always stay tensioned, true, and round. Joe was informative, realistic about costs (where i could save, and what i should spend a little money on), while making it fun. They're EXCITED about bikes and helping you get to a good place with your gear, whatever level you're at. Not pushy at all about buying from them for parts either. Which makes me want to go back and support them, more so than other shops I've been into (at one spot they said, after about 5 minutes, that i should just buy a new bike, rather than trying to adapt my old one). I just don't know where to start with this "gem" of a bike shop. The selection is well-curated, the mechanics are top shelf and the shop vibe is excellent. All this said, nothing quite prepared me for the life-changing customer service afforded to me by one Mat Barlow (Director of Customer Service). He answered the phone with a cheerful hello, asked me if I needed any freeride-goods, or exceptionally wide rim profiles for my sick whip, and took his time to make certain that I was riding sufficiently large volume tires on my mountain bike assure that the "gnar could be shredded in abundance and little regard for picking dialed lines." When I brought my bike by for the appointment, it just got better. It was on a Friday around 5pm and Mat greeted me with a cold Coors Banquet Brew and let me know that they'd have my rig "shred-ready" by the close of business the next day. He helped me pick out a "Gnarlow-Approved" dropper post and some 890 mm wide alu bars specifically engineered for "sending it big". Jim is a master. Brought my older Felt F3 in with ZeroG front brake feeling mushy. Jim found the main problem which was a broken spring and was able to dig up a replacement from his used parts bins! Then he proceeded to examine others parts of the front and back brake system. When he was done the brakes had never felt more even and precise! I had a pretty poor experience with a bike fit at Vecchio's. I'm a taller guy with a CAAD8 Ultegra bike (~$2,000 if I recall) and wanted to make sure it fit as well as it could. It was 2 years old at the time of the fit. The guy who fit me was regarded as a guru by the staff, but looked like there was no way he's ever been on a bicycle (not that you need to BE fit to GIVE a fit, but I digress). The first words out of his mouth were that he hadn't "seen handlebars like mine in ages", implying it was pretty old and out of date. He continued on my examining my (new Speedplay) pedals also commenting that they "didn't even sell those anymore" at their store. It was only 2 years old! Yeesh. He measured my knees, adjusted some things, and then frankly told me that this bike couldn't ever be made to fit me and that I needed a custom bike from their custom frame welder. The bike is as big as commercially made (65cm) and I'm 6' 6", and the next bike shop I went to happily sold me a riser stem, slightly different seat post, and handlebars with a slight rise to them (still drops). I've happily ridden 4,000+ miles on it since then and have been happy to have avoided the crappy attempt at an upsell that they provided there. If you're already retired and can bike all day, can refresh your quiver every season and want to feel like you have an Italian pro mechanic doting on you, by all means throw them some cash. Otherwise see a shop with less attitude and you'll thank me for it. read more

One of the ballinist bike shops I have ever been to. This place was like a museum, filled with the beautiful relics of road racing history. Just looking at what Peter has put in the windows for the casual observer is enough to know that you are dealing with a passionate cycling aesthete. As I consider myself something similar to that, it was almost immediate that I was comfortable in Vecchios, touching bikes, gazing longingly at the posters and jerseys adorning the walls and ceilings. Having connected with Peter prior to my CO trip, I was there with the intention of borrowing his personal bike for a ride in the mountains. The cycling culture again delivered as he not only set me up with a rad bike, but also recommended a beautiful route that took me well over the elevation I thought I could reach. If you are in Boulder and need to rent a bike, go to Vecchios. A shop that specializes in Campagnolo is a shop I will support above all others, and this is it in Boulder. He stocks a local bike manufacturer's frames, and a US made steel bike manufacturer's frames. Throw in some Italian Cinellis, cover them in Campagnolo components, and you have a shop owner/mechanic who is selling product he truly believes in. Happy Riding everyone. read more

Vecchio's isn't just one of the best bike shops in Colorado, its one of the finest bike shops in the country. They speak Campagnolo fluently, and are eminently capable of working on your irreplaceable and priceless vintage and classic kit as well. They offer a brilliant custom bike fitting service, and are not arrogant or obnoxious as so many bike shop employees seem to come across. Truly a Boulder County treasure and well worth the drive from Louisville, Niwot, Lyons, and Longmont. All you need to know about this shop is that they have both a custom sizing cycle and a Phil Wood Spoke Cutting machine. A real bike shop, not just a shop distributing a bunch of low-rent bikes for some mega-nameplate. The shop cyclists turn to when they bike a different bike shop sold them doesn't fit, to help with the fitting, if possible. The shop that many US bike shops turn to for mechanical advice on esoteric components and high-zoot issues. read more

Don't even bother going to this place isnt worth at least 5k. They'll probably spit on you. I came with a 1984 Cinelli Super Corsa to get a simple screw for my saddle. The old dude looked at me in disgust for bringing such a shitty old bike in. He was not helpful, rude, and completely dismissed me. I went down the street to full cycle and got the fix i needed without the need of feeling like an inferior bike rider. so like I said: don't go here unless your bike is worth their time. Although Vecchio's is a bit far for those of us living in east Boulder County (and we have to endure the frustrating parking of Boulder), it's the place to go if you have Campy components. The Louisville Trek store, Louisville Cyclery, and Excel sports all told me I'd have to spend close to $1000 to replace "obsolete" 9-speed Campanalo Chorus shifters because I need to move up to 10-speed. Peter simply put in a new part -- all said roughly $100, not $1000. He also can get old Campy stuff including 8 and 9-speed. read more

These guys are great. They have always been fair and honest and extremely knowledgeable with me. I had an issue a little while ago with a broken fork on a Lightspeed. The headset was not a standard size and no other bike shop in town could offer me any solution. These guys are the best, period. Sent a friend to Joe for a fitting, couldn't have worked out better. I bet he's spent 4-5 hours over the last 2 months with him making sure everything is perfect on a bike that wasn't purchased at Vecchio's. Joe is now my starting point for all my friends looking to become road bikers. Vecchio's is the shop where I will spend my money whenever possible. I live in Denver and drive 40 minutes to see them. As far as Price Range goes, if you want a high end custom Moots or Waterford, yeah, they are expensive. However, for what they charge for service, accessories, bike fitting, etc, very reasonable. Been a few years since I had a simple job done here, and praise is well overdue. Bent derailleur hanger on a Ti bike. Another shop in town (much further west on Pearl) told me Ti couldn't be straightened - that it would "creep" back after a few days. Well, Vecchios straightened it in about 10 minutes, gave a chuckle when I told them the other shops comments, and didn't charge me. The fix was permanent. Later learned other shop had been dropped as a dealer for my bikes brand... Clear to me they deserved it. read more

I am not a racer, do some of my own bike work, and don't spend too much, but everyone at Vecchios always treats me well. They took the time to spec out my bike component by component 10 years ago, continue to answer my questions, whether uninformed or not, with good advice, and treat the people I send there equally well. Vecchios is an extremely knowledgeable bicycle shop for building and servicing bicycles. Although they service the top racers in Boulder area, they will provide excellent service and assist all bikers and all bikes at all levels. They have made drive train modifications on my bicycles that other bicycle shops were unable to make or wanted to charge me two or three times as much. They upgraded the brakes on my touring bike from cantilever to V-Brakes for only a nominal cost, but significantly improved performance. They performed emergency repairs on bike including having getting FedEx overnight parts saving an overseas bicycle tour. While servicing my bike and without my request, they have taken the initiative to have accessories and parts that were not functioning properly replaced by their manufacturers discovered parts that were not functionally properly that were still under warrantee for no cost to me. I trust their judgment, skills, and integrity. I also heartily recommend them to build custom bikes, but do not recommend them for bike fitting. Only because of bike fitting did I not give them 5 stars. read more

I recently purchased a custom-fit Waterford from Vecchio's. They did a great job with the fit and building it up. Most of the components were transferred from my old bike. I appreciated that they didn't try to pressure me into buying all new components. This is the nicest and most comfortable bike I've ever owned. My husband and I bought custom Waterfords which came with lifetime free tuneups. After 5 years they suddenly forgot how to fix my bike. Took bike in 4 times for simple shifting problem. They blamed it on me accidentally hitting the lever! Also returned the bike with a new tire pumped to 50PSI instead of 100. Another local shop fixed the shifting problem in 5 minutes. Bought 2 inner tubes that exploded during first inflation. Those they also blamed on my husband and I, even though one was only at 30psi when it blew. Previously I used to ship my bike back to their shop after a tour for them to reassemble. Returned to me twice with a loose headset. Very dangerous, if I hadn't discovered it. The atmosphere is very unpleasant. Both owners have anger issues, swearing and throwing tools at times. Will not be returning there again. Those "free" tuneups are way too expensive. Nor will I consider Vecchios for my next bike purchase. read more

The standard of what a bike shop should be! Most people who self-identify as cyclists think they need to work into cycling season to help their neck/shoulders/wrists stop hurting. Mostly a function from buying a too small bike from an $11/hr hack at a "bike shop." Not at Vecchio's. You couldn't get a bike barn store to talk to you seriously about bike fit. Vecchio's is more interested in helping people learn that bike fit goes far and beyond just bike barn sizing, "You can stand over it, it MUST fit you." They have a sizing cycle and will work with you to help find you something that works with a variety of custom options available that they partner with. That's the bikes. The Service? Let's just say they are the Standard. When local shops get stumped they take the bike to Vecchio's or call them for advice. This is the shop that can rebuild your Campagnolo Ergolevers, and can keep your Sachs New Success, or Mavic SSC group shifting perfectly. Its the kind of shop that makes you wonder why anyone would take their bike anywhere else for service. It takes about twenty minutes on the internet to realize that THESE guys are the authority that shops all over the country turn to. Which is interesting because plenty of people in Boulder County aren't even aware they exist. Instead taking good kit to bike shops that sell noting but plasticky low end garbage thinking that shop is the place to get their whip serviced. Simply the best, period. read more
