I only deducted one star because of the wait for food, which seemed a bit excessive due to the amount of people in the restaurant. The pierogies are delicious and fried perfectly. My hamburger was one of the best I have ever had. It was cooked perfectly, not dry, had the right amount of condiments and toppings. The size is also smaller than most which was ideal because I left feeling satisfied and may have even order another one if I didn't have fries and pierogies with our meal. The location was great, right off the highway and we had no trouble finding a parking spot. We did sit outside at the picnic tables but there is no fence or enclosure so it was a bit nerve wracking having our toddler with us. read more

After the worst possible lunch on the way to the Crayola Factory in Easton, PA. My hubby and I were a bit reluctant to stop at another independently owned restaurant . . . we thought a chain restaurant like Texas Roadhouse would be a safer bet (and we usually try oddball places when we travel). However, we happened to need gas, we took the exit off of 78, and we found ourselves next to Vassi's. We momentarily considered the Waffle House on the hill across the street but I talked my hubby into trying Vassi's. Just the smell coming out the restaurant was enough to convince me that it was going to be a good meal. The first thing I liked was the menu. The prices were incredible. I thought for sure the $1.19 hot dog would be a nasty little wiener on a nasty little bun. Wrong! It was a big meaty (looked to be beef) dog cooked just the right way. Hubby opted for the New York Gyro at $4.85. It was perfectly cooked. The meat just slightly "charred", the vegetables fresh, and with the perfect amount of sauce. I threw caution to the wind and ordered the Buffalo Chicken Cheese Steak for $5.10. Small bits of chicken oozed out the top of the perfectly baked Italian bun (and I am not a big fan of bread), the sauce was perfectly spicy, the slices of what appeared to be white American cheese were the perfect foil for the seasoning that seemed to be a combination Buffalo sauce and blue cheese. Something about getting a $1.50 hotdog intrigues me. A nice deep fried hotdog with onions, ketchup, and chili. Matched with a gyro or a side of fries, and you will be full around $6. Now that's a great deal. I've never tried the ice cream so I can't comment on that, but I do see others get it frequently. Simple All American Food. I have been eating at Vassi's for a long time. In my opinion this is the best gyro in the Lehigh Valley. I like mine with lettuce, tomato, onion, and extra sauce. The gyros are delicious,and the sauce is great. I also had a chili cheese dog with onion, mustard, and pickle. I have had the milkshakes in the past and they are also great. I have been driving to Lehigh for a few years and have never stopped at Vassi's. Today I had both dogs with me and wanted a place with outside seating and that served hamburgers. Well, Vassi's did not disappoint me! The hamburger, fries and vanilla soft ice cream was to die for. I wanted to have second and had to use all of my control to prevent me from running back in. Although the ice cream here is only Hershey's and you can get that several places for some reason it just tastes better at Vassi's when you're sitting outside on a bench while inhaling passing vehicular exhaust fumes. In all seriousness I have never had any non-ice cream items at Vassi's but I do know people that have and they all swear buy it as good, simple, and decently priced. I've had the ice cream there in many combinations for a number of years and while it's nothing out of the ordinary, it is solid and well worth a visit in the summer. read more

We pass through the area about 3 times a year on trips, and every time we are sure to stop in at Vassi's. The menu is full of delicious (thought heart-stoppingly caloric) items that will make your mouth water. The hot dogs are great, the hamburgers excellent, the gyros of special note, and the mozzarella sticks are a must-have. The owner is friendly and always comes out to say hello. Definitely worth a stop if you are in the area. Don't expect fine dining or haute cuisine, but expect a good meal at a great price. read more

We were on our way to NY travelling back from VA and wanted to stop for a late lunch/early dinner to miss the worst of the NYC traffic. Usually, we hit the Waffle House since NY is too uncivilized for WH, but this time, we had our dog with us and needed a pet-friendly place to hang out for awhile. Right at the end of the exit ramp was Vassi's Drive In, and we decided to try it out. What a find! There is outdoor seating at picnic tables under umbrellas, as well as a dining area inside. The restaurant has a nice retro atmosphere, and the staff was friendly and took our orders competently. Vassi's has a FANTASTIC 6 oz local beef cheddar and bacon burger! My husband gave me a bite of his, and I was almost sorry I'd opted for the gyro. (I was headed back to NY. Why would I get a gyro?) But then I tried the gyro and it too, was amazing! Vassi's pita is perfectly toasted for a lightly crispy and yet soft texture, the lettuce is leafy and cut into fine strips, rather than chunks of iceberg just thrown on, and the tzatziki tastes like it's made fresh. Both sandwiches came with an order of freshly-made fries. Of course, after the meal I had to try a dish of hard ice cream. The girls at the counter had been making a fuss over our dog and asked if I wanted some ice cream for him too (dog-safe). All three of us got ice cream and spent a pleasant late afternoon watching the traffic go by. We'll definitely stop here again! read more

We visited here on a quick trip through Hellertown and are so glad we found this place! It's been around since 1954, and you don't last that long unless you're doing a lot of things the right way. The food was tasty and everything you'd hope for from a 1950s drive in. Plus they have tasty gyros carved off a spit to order - none of that frozen stuff so many places throw on the flat top. As much as we enjoyed the food, the star of the show was the service. We were greeted with a huge smile and served by the kindest, most cheerful cashier! We didn't get her name, but the sweet gal with the blue hair is the greatest! If we were local, we'd be regulars. Instead, we'll make it a point to stop in whenever our travels take us to the Lehigh Valley. read more

I've driven past Vassi's multiple times since my daughter was in the NICU for over a month... I finally stopped in and I'm sure glad I did! Food is so great! You'd think a drive in place would have gross greasy food but it wasn't at all. I was pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. I had the cheese steak and fries. Consistently fresh hot food at great prices. The best fried fish sandwich, but fights for top billing with their hot dog with everything. A bargain at $1.55 with mustard and onions and chili sauce. Really spectacular. Gyros always good as well as their cheesesteaks. Chili cheese fries are superb. Onion rings and the sauce that comes with them are soooo good. Vassi's is roughly a stones throw* from I-78. *Disclaimer - don't throw stones near highway traffic or eating establishments or someone could get hurt. open til 10 Fridays and Saturdays for drive through and walk-in. I strongly recommend their minty chip ice cream on a chocolate chip cone. Being a Philadelphian on vacation to Bethlehem, this experience was otherworldly. The two-scoop cone was delivered in a plastic cup to avoid overspillage of the high volume of chunky ice cream. The ice cream had a delicious sugary aftertaste and was perfect in texture. I put in "Restaurants off I-78" into my yelp mobile search bar and Vassi's came up. We took the exit and saw it immediately. So location was perfect for what I needed. A classic burger joint with a Greek twist, I ordered a gyro and the hubby got a double cheese burger and ice cream shake. Price was very reasonable. In the time it took me to wash up in the restroom our food was ready. Friendliness and speed of service were stellar. We sat on the covered patio (dog friendly, so that's always going to give them a bump in my ratings ;-) And as a girl who travels pretty regularly, let me say the food was pretty darn good. It's been a while since I've had a good gyro. They toasted the pita, the meat had great flavor and texture, and all the fixings were fresh. I love me some tzatziki and they were generous. Of course I also had to try the burger. It was simple, classic flat top cook with minced oninons, ketchup and made wtih local beef. Everything I could want. Hungry and on the 78? A really good hamburger/hot dog/ice cream place. The food is always fresh and made to order. The staff is friendly and brings the food out to your table after you order at a counter. The seating area has been updated in the last few years, so is in good condition and is clean. There are both booths and regular tables with chairs to choose from. Seating is also available outside during the warmer months of the year. The owner is normally on site, so any problems can be addressed with someone who can do something about it. (although we've never really had a problem) The only negative is that there is only one bathroom with one toilet. We do bring a larger group of teens from our church youth group here a couple times a year and it works out fine. Hershey's ice cream is served here, so come get some Moose Tracks when the craving hits. There is plenty of parking behind the building. We've been coming since the days it was called "Potts Doggie Shop" and it has remained consistently good through out the years. read more

The owner is polite and the rest of the staff super friendly. The tables are always clean as is the bathroom. The Hershey's hand dipped ice cream... well let's just say there is no way they can fit more ice cream in that cone. It totters noticeably because of the height as they carefully hand it to you over the counter, yeah baby. Hot fudge sundae, the hot fudge is really hot and there's plenty of it. The chicken gyro was very good. The tzatzika sauce......no idea how to spell it......was good. My sons mozzarella sticks and chicken nuggets were great. The sauce for the mozzarella sticks wasn't good.....it had a strange taste. I'd like to come back and try their burgers. I was happy to see that they get their beef from a local farm that is located right in Bethlehem. Sounds like it should be a nice quality burger.... It pains me to rate Vassi's a three-star establishment, but one can only take so much disappointment when it comes to the service and management. Pain because the burgers, fries, gyros, and milkshakes are all top notch. The hot dogs are eh, and the cheesesteaks are decent. But here's my beef (no pun intended).. The last handful of times that I've ordered a two-handed burger, I've specifically asked them to add ketchup. 0 for 5 on that front. Then last time, I opened the bag and they forgot the fries. I called up, and they wrote my info down, and let me know that they would take care of me next time I stop in. Well if take care of me means simply not charge me for the fries next time I order, that's a major fail in my mind. Call me greedy, but I think that when customers are inconvenienced, that they should be compensated a bit more than what they were originally cheated of. I'll say this much .. if they would have paid for my dinner, I would have forgotten about the mistake, and I would have probably rated Vassi's five stars. I will continue to go there, but not quite as often. And next time .. I will be leaving with ketchup on my burger!! read more

We just stopped here on the way back to Mass from Lancaster and it was the best decision. We needed a place with outdoor seating for the new puppy we had with us, and the staff was so kind and welcoming. I asked if they could put the Caesar salad in a wrap (which wasn't on the menu), and they did it without hesitation and it was AMAZING. French fries were great too and my friend raved about his cheeseburger. Simple but delicious! It's on a busy intersection so sitting outside wasn't as peaceful as it could have been, but that's not their fault. So happy to find this gem by chance and we will definitely be back! It's your standard drive-in, without a drive-in! They have inside seating for the winter, but I prefer to eat here in the summer when I can sit out front. Decent hot dogs, gyros & cheese fries. They have Hershey's hard ice cream and custard soft serve. I like to ride my bike here and have an ice cream cone. Lots of people bring their dogs and kids here, so it can be pretty busy on a weekend afternoon. Great for puppy and people watching! It's a great deal for the price.
