Vandalz seems to be a new addition to the Fremont market, and they were absolutely killing it. In an area that already has multiple established Mexican food trucks, it's impressive to have a 10-deep line of folks waiting to get their hands on these meat missiles. If I remember correctly, they only serve tacos, burritos, and nachos, so I assume they're focused on perfection with those three dishes. However, the variety of meats is extensive. Any time I see birria on a menu, I know they're not messing around. So I focused in on the birria burrito, and patiently waited my turn. Man this thing was hefty. I had to walk all the way back to my house, and it felt like I was doing a farmer's carry. The anticipation to bust this 'rito wide open was killing me. I was a little disappointed to find that there was no sauce to go, which feels like table stakes for a food truck, but you know I always keep some on deck at home (I actually eat on a deck). The first bite of a 'rito is always telling of how your journey will unfold. Will there be uniformity across your meal? Was this tortilla served warm? Unfortunately my first bite was 100% white rice. I will say, the rice was done perfectly, though. After toughing my way through, I figured out that there is also some decent pico, and a very nice melted cheese. The birria was easily the star of the show, but it took me a bit to uncover. Once you get to it, you realize there is a treasure trove of meat in there. All of the ingredients are solid, which to me gives it at least 3 stars. Where I have a hard time adding more, is that there isn't anything to cut through the amount of fat from the birria, and rice in the burrito. It just needed its own salsa to take it to the next level. I think that Vandalz can shine at the market if they throw in a sauce, maybe some sautéed peppers and onions, and give an option for guacamole. I still enjoyed the burrito, but I think there's a lot that can be done to improve it. read more

I was hoping it was going to be good but my first impression came from the guy who was taking orders who was a bit rude, it felt like he didn't want to be there so he was taking it out on customer with a bad attitude. The burrito itself wasn't terrible, but it also wasn't $15 good. I think the carne asada was cooked well but beyond that the beans were bland and dry and the rest of the burrito was dry. They added some white sauce which was good but there was like a bites worth. This kind of seemed like a chipotle burrito but a bit worse. Vandalz had a truck vending at Seattle Pride, I ordered a burrito. Their runner, who I didn't initially realize was even with them, was wearing a shirt that said "Let's Go Tacos", in the same font and format as a standard political poster, clearly referring to the right-wing "Let's Go Brandon" dogwhistle. I asked about why he chose to wear that shirt to Pride and told him maybe he should read the fucking room, he responded "no." (The burrito was also terrible; the rice was completely unseasoned and there was barely any meat in there despite the $3 upcharge.) When I pointed out this incident on Vandalz' Facebook page, I was chided for my "negativity" and they turned off comments on all of their posts. Vandalz has no business vending at Pride and takes no accountability for this fact. read more

While the chef and other staff were kind, their food is not at all authentic, and not very good either. Native-SoCal here, and was married to a first-gen Mexican--FWIW, pico de gallo is not a traditional taco condiment, and neither is adding beans or crema. Authentic tacos have 3 things only: cilantro, onion, and chile (salsa). Additionally, their birria tacos are actually quesabirria (cheese is melted) tacos, which is not how they are advertised. That was really annoying, bc I love birria, but quesabirria tacos are not my fav. If this is considered quality authentic Mexican food in Seattle, I am screwed. When the price is high, your expectation gets higher. So, I tried this a week ago and nothing is special. Not great either for the price. Their taco's price is almost $6/pc and if you get their birria, it's around $12 for 3 pcs. Normally, there's inclusion of side dishes already like beans or rice, or even chips! It doesn't came with sauce or picco de gallo. A friend tried their taco (3 variants). If you factored in the price, it's ok. Maybe if it was $3-4ish would be close to great. There are food trucks that are great and yet have reasonable price. I just want to mention that, I have no problem with the price as long as it matches the quality. read more

Vandalz rockz! (See what I did there?) The truck was a welcome sight outside of Machine House Brewery last night. I ordered three tacos: al pastor, chorizo, and barbacoa. All were delicious, and filling enough that I will have to wait to try the picadillo and birria (although I did get to finish my friend's consommé, and it was amazing). And it's worth pointing out that every morsel of my meat mélange was edible--no rubbery ligaments or whatever the hell sneaks into most street tacos these days. Notably good chips and the homemade salsa was on point (although if cilantro tastes like soap to you, beware). Service isn't usually a criterion I apply to food trucks, but the owner (whose name I did not catch) brought my order inside the bar and delivered it to my table, so two thumbs up for that. had the best night at Vandalz!! they were outside wheelie pop brewery on a hoppin saturday night! I had the chicken tacos, and my friends had the chorizo and al pastor tacos. the tortillas were consistently amazing. chorizo and al pastor was very flavorful and saucy, chicken had a good crisp to the exterior but delicious flavorful interior. we also got the guac and chips and the guac was soooo fresh! chips were homemade and had perfect seasoning. will definitely be looking for this truck's location from now on! so excited a new taco truck knows how to make tacos the RIGHT WAY!!! read more
