When I saw banh bot lot and banh beo was available, best believe I drove here the same day to get these!! This was in the same plaza at 7 leaves and these 2 combo is all you really need in life :) the banh bot loc was SOOOOO good! Will be coming here every time I'm in SJ

I usually go to L&M Bakery and Deli few shops down but have recently started checking out Van An. Very similar to L&M, another mom & pop shop - Vietnamese food & snacks. This place is, I believe, closed on Tuesdays & Wednesdays. Make sure to bring cash because they do not accept cards. They have those individual packaged Vietnamese food plates, like banh cuon, banh beo, banh bot loc, sticky rice, and more - made fresh daily. A bit pricey, around $5-$6 for one and portion size is not much. On busy WFH days, I would come here to pick up something for lunch or dinner because it's quick and convenient.

I remember the first time I stepped into a Lee's Sandwich in San Jose. I thought it was so cool that it was so modern and you waited on your orders of sandwich and Vietnamese coffee- " #28, Your order is ready" announced over the speakers. I remember looking around at all the what looked liked bunch of packaged colorful appetizers laying around being sold. I bought a few items w/no idea of what the heck I was eating. But, I was ready for the edible adventure! Van An( San Jose) makes lots of this hard for me to pronounce delicious items. Buy a bunch for a snack or a meal! Mom and Pop shop and Cash Only. Social distance observed. Staff friendly and wearing mask.

If you loved to eat banh uot, banh cuon like I do, this is probably one the best place to get these items in the Bay Area. Most of the items are freshly made. There are many to go items and you can always call ahead to place orders for party etc. Highly recommended!

This place is worth for me to drive 45 minutes to buy their beef meat balls, banh cuon.

This place only serves individual trays or party trays TOGO. I only come here for their banh hoi (woven rice vermicelli). It usually comes in a black togo tray, plain, in sheets. I requested them to add green onion oil + fried shallots this time so they just grabbed the prepackaged plain ones and brought that to the back to add the toppings. It comes out to be $5. FAV BANH HOI! Come early! They run out of their individual togo trays pretty quickly. I've seen banh cuon (meat filled rice noodles), banh bot lot (shrimp & pork filled tapioca dumplings), banh beo (dried shrimp steamed rice cakes) and xoi lap xuong (savory sticky rice with Chinese sausage + chicken). There's also larger plates of banh uot (rice sheets -plain or with dried shrimp) next to the register. There's a menu on the wall so you can order what you need if you don't see it already prepared on the counter. A few times I came early in the afternoon and everything was gone besides the sweet sticky rice. Sometimes you can ask if they have anymore in the back..but nothing is guaranteed!

The pork and shrimp net egg rolls were perfectly crispy and packed with flavor, and the bánh khọt egg rolls were just as amazing. I loved wrapping everything in the fresh greens they provided, dipping each bite into the fish sauce, and adding a little sriracha for extra kick. Yes, the fish sauce smell lingers on your hands, but it's completely worth it because the flavors are incredible. There's plenty of parking since it's located in a strip mall, which made it easy and convenient to visit. If you love crispy-style egg rolls, I highly recommend this spot. I'll definitely be stopping by every time I'm in the area.

Thank you for having this spot in ESSJ and I'll be back for their catering trays for my next gathering.

It was a really hot day on a Wednesday when we came by. Inside felt stuffier than outside so we opted to sit outside. We did an early lunch slightly before noon, but even on a weekday there were a lot of other customers. Devin got the #1 Special Rice Roll and I got the #10 Bun Rieu. I was a bit skeptical of getting a hot noodle soup on a hot day, but I figured it'd be great to find a solid bun rieu spot closer to me than my current defaults all the way in Milpitas. The #1 came out first and rather quickly, the #10 took a bit longer but wasn't a long wait by any means. The first thing I noticed was that the plate of add-ins was rather unique, I've never received perilla leaves or banana flowers with my bun rieu before. The broth had great flavor and this soup did come with pork blood cubes. I would definitely come back for the bun rieu. Hot soup noodle soup on a hot day wasn't actually so bad. I tried some of the Special Rice Rolls and felt unsure, maybe it's an acquired taste but I wasn't an immediate fan.

I was pleasantly surprised with the pho ap chao, it was really tasty and crispy and a dish I have not tried before. We really enjoyed everything but the Bo luc lac (shaken beef) was super tender and the beef was flavorful! This is a must try in my opinion! This restaurant is clean and tidy and has cute decors of bamboo hats hung from the ceiling and remind me of being back in Vietnam again. Staffs were attentive as customers entered. Plenty of parking spaces in the plaza. I will definitely come back here for everything I tried during my visit and to try more when in the area or on the way back from Santa Cruz. This will also be a great place to grab Togo for picnics or for hiking as well! My kids are already asking to come back to the restaurant after our first time there.
