The best "Bánh Cuốn" in San Jose, although the service can be a bit slow. If you call ahead of time, you get your order. You want to pick up your order on time, otherwise, they will sell your order to someone else. I recommend paying them ahead of time so they're not worrying that you will not show up. This place is, I believe, closed on Tuesdays & Wednesdays. Make sure to bring cash because they do not accept cards. They have those individual packaged Vietnamese food plates, like banh cuon, banh beo, banh bot loc, sticky rice, and more - made fresh daily. It was served with fish sauce and it filled me up for a quick lunch. Banh beo is one of my favorites - it's a steamed rice dumpling and these were covered in a shrimp dust. Bot loc is like a tapioca dumbling - chewy and filled with a little bit of meat. I don't eat it too often but it was super yummy. Me and my family go here a lot! Weekly or every other week. We love their banh cuon thit (steamed rice rolls filled with pork and wood ear mushrooms) and banh beo (steamed rice cakes topped with mung bean and dried shrimp). It always tastes fresh and I really enjoy the texture. You can buy the pre made containers that they set out on the table, if they are available. The pre made containers usually include a fork, nuoc mam (fish sauce), and hanh phi (fried shallots). I went in to order some. The menu was too confusing to read because it didn't connect to the price. I made my order and was shocked at the price. They say they speak English but couldn't spell my name so I use my Dad's name. After I got home, I looked at their price and had to do some math. It turns out to be over the budget. I came in to have them change it and they did. There was a misunderstanding because of the language barrier. They refunded my money. They didn't have a lot of variety when I went in there but then I did went around noon and right before they closed. This place only serves individual trays or party trays TOGO. I only come here for their banh hoi (woven rice vermicelli). It usually comes in a black togo tray, plain, in sheets. I requested them to add green onion oil + fried shallots this time so they just grabbed the prepackaged plain ones and brought that to the back to add the toppings. It comes out to be $5. FAV BANH HOI! Come early! They run out of their individual togo trays pretty quickly. I've seen banh cuon (meat filled rice noodles), banh bot lot (shrimp & pork filled tapioca dumplings), banh beo (dried shrimp steamed rice cakes) and xoi lap xuong (savory sticky rice with Chinese sausage + chicken). Was craving banh beo out of no where during work and decided to get some for lunch! So, I pulled up the Yelp app to see where I can score some. This place was the closest so I hopped in my car and drove there. Parking was not bad at all! I got there at 11:30amish and there were plenty of parking spots. The store looks like a deli with not much in the front because all the good stuff is stashed in the back! I'm Chinese so I had trouble communicating what I wanted and I didn't know how to pronounce it but luckily a lady who works there came in and asked me to point at the picture of what I wanted and called to the back to bring some out! While I was waiting for them, I remembered we have a potluck at work tomorrow and asked if I could tack on another 50 but a man comes out to tell me to just come back tomorrow for it because they pride themselves in fresh food and he didn't want me to serve my coworkers some overnight stuff! I really appreciate that he took such pride in his food. Instead of pushing me to buy more right then and there, he told me honestly to just order them on the day of. $5 gets you a whole tray of yumminess! They have reduced hours during SIP but they're open and no one else was in the store. Not sure if service usually sucks, but today the lady was super patient and friendly as I asked her what everything was and the prices for each item. I picked up: - Banh cuon (by the register), which are the chunky rice rolls with fried garlic and green onion on top and stuffed with more rice noodle and meat inside. Togo container was $5 for 5 pieces. It comes with fish sauce. Super delicious! Tasted fresh and the rice rolls were soft and flavorful. - Banh beo with shrimp (on the table in the middle of the store). This togo container was $3.50 for 5 pieces of banh beo and 5 pieces of something else that's kind of like banh beo. Banh beo are these circular pieces of rice flour with stuff on top. In this case, it was shrimp and a mung bean-like paste. These are super soft and fall apart when you dip it in the sauce. The other banh beo mystery item is tube-like and the wrapping is more gelatinous and clear. It's a lot chewier, and it's filled with shrimp. These were good, but not as good as the banh cuon. I have been here 2x now over the last 6 months where the food just taste off. My most recent occasion was today and the banh cuon was spoiled. A lot of the reviews said the ladies were really mean and rude but they were really nice to me and service was fast and efficient. This place is cash only so bring some with you. I ordered 15 pieces of the Banh cuon, they were .80 cents a piece so my total was only $12. I was surprised by how big they were when I got them! It's an odd looking shop with packages of rice noodles and rice cakes on the counter and crystal animals and red money envelopes for sale on the side, along with random groceries. The key is to focus on the posted menu.
