We had to work through an obstructive HOA, which caused unnecessary and illegal delays, but Omri stuck with us. If you are seeking cheap, Beyond is not for you, but if you are looking for quality that will last for decades at a reasonable price, they are a good choice.

Furthermore, the contractor under-reported our $24,331 contract to the City of Imperial Beach on the permit valuation as only $3,786.75 (an 84% discrepancy). We have fulfilled 100% of our financial obligations to close out the contract, but an active investigation has been requested with the California Contractors State License Board (CSLB Complaint #S F 2025016199) regarding their permit reporting and management practices. We had 1,500 square feet of yard demoed, turfed and hardscaped. They took our junky backyard that we inherited from the previous owners and turn it into something we absolutely love. They poured concrete (where our outdoor kitchen will go), laid turf and did a super cute walkway from the back to the side yard. They extended our drip line so I could plant on the back and opposite side yard. They guided us the whole way, from gopher wire, to rocks, to weed barrier. The best part is, they did it in 6 days from beginning to end. Their team worked so hard and diligently and we couldn't be happier. We will have them again once we do our front yard! There was also a moment where we pushed back on the slab count and rather than brushing us off, they looped in the right people to work it through with us. That's just good business. He was the only one who detailed every item involved in the bid, including update of irrigation. I've had issues in the past with bids for other projects that I assumed included the little details but didn't and then I had to pay extra. Michael's bid included every detail in writing that you would assume would be a part of a new lawn job and it was very reasonable. He also showed up on time for the initial appointment! His crew was great! Their work was very detailed and clean. The job was done within three days and all of the work area, including the driveway, was cleaned up. They even noted my falling-apart fence gate so Michael gave me a very reasonable quote and they did a great job fixing it for me. There were a lot of details for after-care and I've texted Michael multiple times to confirm. He texts back quickly and I never get the impression he's annoyed (I've sent a lot of texts!). I almost wish I had more yard renovations so that I could hire him again! I did discuss a whole-yard mulch job and will absolutely hire Michael when I'm ready for that. No more getting multiple bids for future yard renovations. I'll just call Michael.

Some things I wish I knew then that I know now might help others when planning their yards. Yes, Smart Landscape does a lovely job. Here's what would have made my upkeep a lot easier. 1. Extra protection ground cover to eliminate weeds. Some yards get no weeds because a super heavy cover has been used. I've spent countless hours pulling weeds since yards were done. 2. Go over what plants are going to be used. If I'd done that, I would've saved money and work to remove those that had needles that made it difficult/dangerous to remove. 3. If the designer had visited front yard, he would have seen the slight slope and the DG pathway would not have been a logical design choice. Rain washes it away and I'll have to eventually figure out a way to close up that space. 4. At that time, I didn't meet with the designer. I should have. Although it's a lovely design, I would have pointed out a change or two I'd have preferred. 5. Gray DG is not readily available and it has been difficult to keep the pathway refreshed. Someone said that he was going to provide it, but never did. Overall, I am glad I hired Smart Landscape. UPDATE: I needed to come back to add another star after carefully considering how wonderful Danny and his team are to work with. I had met with no fewer than nine landscape companies before Smart Landscape and they were nightmares for various reasons. Danny is wonderful to work with and makes sure the customer is happy.

Aaron was our sales contact, and he answered all my questions before I signed which made us feel good about using them and had some good suggestions. Their model of doing whatever we need and mixing with what other contractors we use is great; we for example purchased a quartzite slab for the kitchen and Rock N Block did the rest. The prices were very reasonable as well, and looking at the end product I think it was a great deal. The rest of the team, Alexis and Jose, did a great job keeping us updated and keeping our property clean. I'm not sure who the guys were that did the counter build, I think it was someone and his two adult kids, but they did an incredible job and it seemed like they took the time to do quality work. The rest of the project ran into some difficulty with the electrical hookup and gas move, but Jose still got the work done on time and worked well with our countertop fabricator to coordinate what they needed and when to install Overall went really well and would recommend them for any sort of hardscape project.

From the very beginning, Igor (owner and GC) set the tone for a great experience. He was responsive, punctual, and incredibly easy to work with. Out of all the contractors I reached out to, he was the quickest to reply, provide a quote, and--most importantly--follow through without ever ghosting. What really stood out was how he helped bring my vision to life early on, offering thoughtful design input and walking me through material options at different price points (good, better, best) so I could stay within budget without sacrificing quality. As the project progressed, his level of involvement never dropped. When challenges with the scope came up, Igor personally made the time to meet with me, walk through the situation, and clearly outline the best path forward. Even with a busy schedule, his attention to detail and commitment to high standards were consistently evident throughout the project. What also stood out to me was the team's attention to detail and commitment to quality. Our walls weren't perfectly straight, but instead of cutting corners, the crew took the time to properly float and prep the surfaces with drywall mud so the baseboards would sit clean and flush. That level of care shows in the final product. They also demoed an old closet that had sanitation issues and rebuilt it from scratch in a much better location, completely reframing it and improving both the layout and functionality of the space. On top of that, they finished faster than originally quoted, which was a huge bonus. The crew worked incredibly hard--sometimes late into the evening--to make sure everything was done right. What I appreciated most is that they didn't just stick to the bare minimum scope; if they saw small improvements that could be made, they took care of them without hesitation. During our bathroom remodel, they also went the extra mile to refit the plumbing to meet proper contractor code, which gave me a lot of confidence in the long-term quality and safety of the work. Several areas are completely flattened and won't bounce back, making it look worn out and poorly installed. On top of that, a section of the turf has been burned due to window reflection--something that was never disclosed or even mentioned as a potential issue during the project. When I reached out to the company to come take a look, I was told it wasn't covered under warranty and they refused to even come out to assess it. For the amount of money we invested, that level of customer service is unacceptable. Very disappointing experience overall. I would not recommend this company, especially considering their lack of accountability after taking such a large payment.
