In late 2019, we had a flood in our master bathroom that (like many people) was the primer for a full-blown remodel. It was time to upgrade our gross 1980's shower and cheap vanity from the previous house flip. We turned to MOST Construction of Carlsbad for full design and remodel construction services and they did not disappoint! From the early scoping, contracting and through the design process, Pernille and Morten were very professional and understanding of our vision. The contracting process was very detailed to ensure all work was accounted for, and Pernille provided numerous design drawings for us to work with. Being our first bathroom remodel, we were unaware of the amount of planning and subcontractors that would be involved. Along the way, MOST provided recommendations for vendors with the experience to match our vision. Construction began with a minor hiccup when a small leak occurred in the subfloor below the shower, but this was due to an existing hole in our drain pipe. This was no fault to MOST construction, but Morten promptly mitigated this and repaired the minor drywall damage. Talk about great service! From thereon everything was a breeze! Their workers were courteous and showed up on time each day and kept the workspace as clean as possible. Their tile tradesman Sal is a true artisan! Following the framing and hotmop of the shower pan, Sal built a traditional mortar bed tile job with custom niches and gorgeous bordering. He took his time to make sure the end product was flawless, and I appreciate that level of skill. Pernille coordinated with the Countertop Company of San Marcos to have the vanity and shower dam slab cut and installed. We handled the glasswork (shower door, backlit mirror) ourselves with Cast Glass Images of San Marcos. Everything went smoothly with drywall, electrical and finish plumbing installation. In the end, MOST Construction was a pleasure to work with. They are a team of true professionals and they will be my go-to general contractor for quotes on my next major remodeling job! read more

Our experience with MOST was great from the first consultation through the execution of the project. We had a fairly small project and were having trouble finding a company willing to take our project on. We wanted to install french doors for our home office where prior there was a huge doorway opening with no doors. Pernille was great to work with, offering design suggestions and showing us photos of similar work so we could get a good picture of what to expect. Once our doors were ordered (through General Millworks), MOST scheduled their installation to coordinate with the door delivery. They worked very efficiently, completing the job in a couple of days (other companies told us the job could take up to 2 weeks!). They also kept the space very tidy and clean. We had a small project of installing recessed lighting in a couple rooms and removing some built-ins, and it is tough and frustrating nowadays to get anyone to take on small projects. It caught us off guard when Morten agreed to take on our project, and we're very happy and grateful that they did. We've heard many contractor horror stories from family, friends, and neighbors, and actually gone through one ourselves, so we were very cautious, even with a small project. However, Morten, Pernille, and his crew were such a pleasure to work with. The entire project exceeded our expectations. I met these guys as the third-party contractor that the now defunct Home Expo used for my kitchen remodel project. The company is run by Morton Kruse and Steve Frost, although they also have a staff of very nice and skilled workers. They are wonderfully clean and organized, helpful with tips and ideas, committed to quality work, and super friendly too. They did an amazing job on my massive kitchen remodel. You are not going to believe this - but they even finished 2 weeks ahead of schedule, right before the holidays. Talk about Merry Christmas!!! They even came back a year later for some touch ups, gratis. So then two years later we decided it was time for an add on and a bathroom remodel. We interviewed a couple other contractors but gave the job to MOST based on their cleanliness, quality work, flexibility, innovative ideas, reasonable budget, and our previous experience. Boy we were glad we did. They did a brilliant job, and we didnt mind having them around. These are the type of people you trust to work in your house while the kids and dogs are home, or while you are on vacation. BTW - I dont think any project is too small or too large for them, as they can scale their staff accordingly. Like I said - we did a structural add on with them, but we also call once just to have them replace a door and frame. From the first day they arrived, MOST Construction worker's were very professional. Their work was done efficiently and with high quality. I had renovations done on my older mobile home and feel like I have a new house! I had a long list of things from big to small and they checked off every one of them. Kitchen Remodel, Various Other Jobs, Highly Recommend We just spent the last 11 months on a monster remodel starting with re-piping of our plumbing--(Horrendous!), then MOST came in and began sections of a Large Kitchen Remodel including moving an exterior wall, removing a living room wet bar and adding a pantry and alcove front, and then finishing the moldings after new flooring went throughout the home. A lot of things did not go according to plan and that is where mettle is tested. They passed all the "Gremlin" tests and we were very happy to have chosen this company to work with. Communication was stellar. I can't say enough how much I enjoyed each one of the people who worked in our home--Really, Really Nice! We have a severely handicapped child and oftentimes workers conflict with our son's schedules, etc. making things very difficult. This was not the case. They started and ended when they said they would. They worked around all kinds of other pieces of projects going on in the home. The price was right. Honesty and Integrity prevailed. MOST Construction is awesome. I got several estimates for a tub to shower conversion to make it easier for an elderly family member to take a "bath." One estimate from Marrokal Designs was ridiculously high. Another estimate from a one day turnaround "cookie cutter" drop in shower conversion company was only a little less than the estimate from MOST Construction. I didn't go with the least expensive company because the shower would have looked cheap. MOST let us choose everything from the tile to match our preexisting floor and counters, as well as the hardware and fixtures. The new shower looks better than the showers in the rest of the house. We have now used MOST Construction for four different jobs over six years. We first worked with them on a major bathroom remodel contracted through Home Depot's Expo Design Center which is no longer in business. We were completely satisfied with our bathroom remodel, the quality of the workmanship, and Steve Frost's (the ST in MOST) responsiveness to our requests. Steve, Morton (the MO in MOST), and all of their workers are polite and go out of their way to make sure customer needs are met. We next used them to replace two large outdoor decks and a driveway. We got other bids and decided to go with MOST. They were competitive in their pricing, and a known contractor since we'd used them before. Yes, there were challenges, and Steve was easy to work with and was more than reasonable in being sure they did the right thing. They promised me everything would be beautiful, and beautiful it was! My husband and I hired Morten Kruse, the owner of MOST Construction, on the referral of our previous designer at Lowes who had worked with him at Home Expo. We had two previous recent remodel experiences - a kitchen and a bathroom - with other contractors with whom we had many problems. So we were ready for someone competent and skillful. We hired MOST Construction in May to redo our master bath which was very dated, dysfunctional, and shabby. The job took a few weeks longer than scheduled which was partly due to a delay through Lowes of our pocket doors being damaged on the first two orders. Morten had at least one of his employees here working every day. They were all very competent, respectful, and professional. They showed up when they said they would and did a great job of cleaning up at the end of every day and at the end of the job also. His supervisor, Roman, came every day first thing to check on the progress. He was always available by phone whenever we needed to call him. Sal, the tile expert who did the shower and the floor, was a real perfectionist which we appreciated and he did a fantastic job. Thomas, one of the carpenters, was especially good at problem solving and figuring a way to achieve what we wanted. Jeff was also a very good carpenter. Gabe and Adan did the smoothing and texturing of the drywall; when they finished, the new wall blended perfectly into the old part which was last painted 15 years ago. Suzanne was an excellent communicator; she also was always immediately available by phone and addressed a small issue we had with the working of the pocket doors which was finally resolved. She was also the one who recommended the company to fabricate the countertop and the company who provided the shower doors. All in all, this remodel was a stress-free experience compared with the previous two. I think the key for anyone planning a remodel is to make sure the contractor listens to what you want all along the way and for the homeowner to check the progress frequently. My husband were here most of the time so we could take a look several times a day to make sure we were satisfied with what was happening. We were definitely hands-on clients, which served us well. All of Morten's employees have the attitude of pleasing the client, and they will come back and take care of any problem until it is satisfactory for the homeowner. We especially appreciated this as it seems to be a rare quality among service people. The end result - our bathroom is now functional and beautiful, with excellent quality vanities and very professional skilled workmanship in every aspect. I agree with the other review that contractors can be difficult to work with, and that is all the more reason why I am happy to give Morten and MOST Construction 5 stars. Morten is the most honest, reasonable, and forthcoming contractor I have dealt with. Nobody is perfect, and there were some minor mistakes along the way in our major home remodel, but he was always willing and happy to fix them, even if they may not have clearly been his crew's fault. That, to me, is the most telling thing about them. And I'll admit, I can be quite picky and precise. Also, Morten stands by his work and has returned to fix something free of charge. Another huge plus is no surprise costs--everything was discussed and hashed out beforehand, and we had a large, rather complex (and somewhat evolving) project with a fair bit of customization. A few small things I opted to do myself (or find my own sub) because his quote was simply not worth it to me, but certainly not unreasonable. Contractors have to make money too, and I feel like Morten did not try to take advantage of us like so many others might. He's not the cheapest contractor out there, but you don't want to hire the cheapest contractor out there unless you're a dummy. And if you're a dummy, you wouldn't have made it this far in a review of a prospective contractor. So good job, reader, in researching your prospective contractor. I seriously doubt you could regret going with Morten. He has earned his high reviews and clearly understands that doing business the right way--with integrity and respect--is the way to earn repeat customers and referrals. read more

We called MOST for a couple of projects in our new house, including ceiling fan installation, a new sliding glass door and moving the laundry location. They were able to come out quickly, Morten was upfront with what he thought we could do (almost talking himself out of part of the job!), and they did a great job.
