Long story short, my backyard was in a state of disarray. I wanted to remove the existing hardscaping, grade the yard, and put in some turf so that my kids could play back there. We also had an existing retaining wall that needed to be replaced. I wanted to push the wall back by a few feet to make the overall size of the yard much bigger. So I set out to find someone who could do a concrete brick retaining wall and found Barney's Concrete on Yelp. They had really great reviews, and had pictures of concrete brick walls that were exactly what I wanted. He also did turf as well which was really intriguing. Ideally I wanted to have one contractor to do all of the work, instead of having to manage multiple contractors. Daniel came out immediately to measure my yard and quoted me a reasonable price. In the end, he and his team demo'd our yard, built a concrete brick wall, laid concrete down for a new patio, and laid turf. The results are amazing, and we're now in our backyard every single day. Two things I especially appreciated were Daniel's (the owner) communication. He was very communicative throughout the process, always asking questions, giving me a heads up on when he'd be arriving, etc. He was also very thorough with his work and really went above and beyond. He didn't try to rush the project and instead took the time to make sure everything was done right so that it would last a long time. I had a great experience working with Daniel and his team. Here is what the timeline on my project was Friday night: Daniel answers yelp inquiry within minutes Saturday morning 8am: Daniel is walking my property, taking measurements, giving me an itemized quote Saturday morning at 10am: 3 of 4 contractors I schedule flake on me Saturday 12pm: I award Daniel the bid, at what was a very reasonable price. I felt like I was dealing with an honest man that was going to deliver Saturday 2pm: Daniel has guys building forms Sunday: it's the Lords day, Daniel still at my property reinforcing forms Monday: Rain, otherwise we would have poured 8 yards of 3000 psi pumpable concrete Tuesday: New Year's Day, nobody works, except Daniel, he's over at my house, checking on things. Tells me some turf would look nice and he could do it. I tell him it's not In my budget. He tells me it's not as expensive as I might think. Daniel was actually the 3rd cement contractor we called. The first one didn't want our business even though it was around 980 sq ft of sidewalk. The second one pulled up in his new truck, didn't measure anything, just took a picture of my estimated measurements and give a very high quote. The 3rd was Daniel, based on yelp reviews, he pulled up in his older work truck, pulled out his measuring wheel, pencil and paper. He listened to what we wanted, explained the entire process for our project in detail. and measured for the square footage. Later in the day, we received his quote. I watched the entire process from excavation, framing by Mr. P with precise .125 of slope, bringing in of road rock for the base, putting in the moisture barrier, rebar and rebar elevators, pouring of the cement and finishing work. My sidewalk turned out perfect, better than I imagined...very satisfied. The finishers were like artists, just exceptional with the finish and scoring.
