We had about 600 SF of pavers and lot of dirt in backyard. Obtained 3 quotes and not only was price reasonable to other high rated contractors, there was just a good feeling that Berlin would be easy to work with. I picked out materials and Berlin had no issue with working with us for those materials, unless some contractors who only want to work with one product. I also bought my own landscape lights and his crew had no issue installing the lights and transformer. We had 200 linear feet of 18 in freestanding wall, 2700SF of pavers and about 800 SF of artificial turf for this job, so a big job. We were quoted 6-8 weeks and it was completed in about 8 weeks for to rain during two weeks in middle of project. Crew cleaned up front of house every night before they left. We had a large backyard pool remodel to do and realized we needed to blow out our narrow stairway down to the pool. I contacted several contractors and finally decided to use Vindel's for the stone stair project. I didn't choose them because they were the lowest price but rather the professionalism and regard the owner displayed upon meeting him. He had pictures of other projects and was very confident in creating the vision that I had. They started the project around December but we had many delays due to rain. His crew was very knowledgeable and experienced. I was around the house much of the time so I was able to watch their work and ensure all was matching the design that we discussed. The final staircase ended up being about 12 feet across at the top and 17.5 feet across at the bottom, by the pool. Amazing! Lighting in the stairs with four column caps and lighting under the caps. We had some moderate landscaping done including having a massive pepper tree removed, extending a retaining wall, and having artificial turn installed in 4 abnormally shaped patches in both our front and back yard. I have a few points of discussion: 1. Berlin Vindel himself - Berlin managed all of the planning and negotiations personally. He was extremely professional and courteous and communicated all aspects of the job to us very well. 2. Berlin's crew - Also amazing. Very efficient, careful, and thoughtful in regard to our home and neighborhood. They worked harder than I would possibly expect and showed excitement for the project. The crew even recommended making minor changes like adding some extra drains that were outside of their job description. 3. Products used - We requested quotes from 2 other groups and after intense review we chose Berlin because we had seen his work and he used superior products for his projects. 4. Price - Berlin was not the cheapest quote we received, but it was clear that the extra cost was mostly tied up in the quality of product he used. In my opinion, you get what you pay for. After years of noticing the concrete beside our pool pulling away toward a hill below, we knew it was time to terrace our hillside properly to prepare for the coming El Nino rains. Our neighbors had previously enlisted the services of Mr. Berlin Vindel and spoke highly of him. We requested a plan to terrace our backyard hill from fence line to fence line. We required the removal of an existing wood stairway, and a tremendous amount of vegetation. We asked for a concrete stairway with a custom wheel barrow ramp. Additionally, we needed concrete poured to anchor an existing deck. Berlin Vindel presented us with a quote and, after agreeing on details, a contract. This was to be a significant project, but Berlin assured me that I would be very pleased with the project when complete. That was to be an understatement. I found Vindel's Construction through a Yelp search. They had great reviews and a 5 star rating. True to form, the reviews were spot on. Berlin and his crew did a great job and went the extra mile. I had a 3.5 ft retaining wall installed where weeks earlier the rain had caused a very old one to give way. During the excavation, the crew found previously undiscovered garden drains which needed to be addressed. They were able to re-route the drains at no additional cost. Plus Berlin's bid was the lowest and he seemed the most honest of the three bids. He didn't try to up sell me with work that was not necessary for the job. Definitely recommend him. The only down side was he took the longest to get back to me to set up a time to visit the job site. I almost went with another company, but decided to wait to get Vindel's bid.
