Vallue Village is on the left side of the building (old Ames store for old timers). Unique thrift is on the right (see that review). I love looking for treasures. I always start on the left side. I bring my own Koodie wipes and shopping bags since I refuse to pay for a plastic bag that will rip before I get to my car. I suggest using an IKEA bag or a giant plastic bag from the container store. I fold them tightly in my purse and use them at checkout. You can schlepp your bags to the car and then visit the other side of the store or check your bag in the middle of the store. I put my claim check by my credit card to prevent forgetting I checked a bag. My favorite finds have included a $200 Redskins winter long coat for $19.99, a redskins $69 leather jacket for $29, a pink QVC $79 jacket (new) for $6 and my favorite backpack purse that I frequently use. The stores have increased prices but they have also improved the layout, organized categories much more efficiently and taken time to clean the floors. The cheapest days are Mondays (25% off to all) and Thursdays (25% off with your VIP card. There are special extra savings days but they are the crowded with longer register lines. I sometimes prefer a non sale day where I don't trip over anyone. The most popular sales days are more tolerable early in the morning. I frequently donate back items I no longer use. It is convenient and easy to pull up to a curb and quickly receive a donation slip. Keep an eye on your purse. If I am sorting through a long row of items on hangers, I will keep my purse on my shoulder and not in the cart. Most of the employees that monitor the lines will allow you to take the entire cart into the dressing room. That makes much more sense if you are trying on 15 items. A $4 pair of jeans is only a bargain if it fits. At Halloween you can get brand new items cheaper than those pop up stores that only sell costumes for a month. Everything gets marked 50% off (sometimes more) after Halloween. I love the treasure trove of possibilities here. I am always proud when someone compliments my handbag and I'll say how little I paid for it. Bring hand wipes or gel! My ratings are on the bargains. The employees can be awesome or indifferent. Many either don't understand or pretend they don't know what you are saying. There seems to be a force field that prevents employees from seeing or hearing you while they are returning clothes to the rack.

It's massive so come with a plan or you'll get overwhelmed. This location does not have changing rooms. The bathrooms were useable the last time I was here but just barely. The sections are pretty well organized but the chaos definitely increases on busy days. Mondays and Thursdays have 25% off sales and are busy, along with the weekends. If you'd like it to be quieter and more organized come on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. Since there are no changing rooms, wear close fitting clothing so you can try items on over what you're wearing. You can always donate something for a 20% off coupon.

You can spend hours in this store. There are two significant drawbacks to thrifting, though, and this store (like most) exhibits them both: no dressing rooms and an unfriendly return policy. You can return items, but it must be within two weeks and you must spend the money on the day of your return - no money back or store credit. Go prepared - dress in removable layers, with a thin first layer to allow you to try as much on as possible in public!

The process is well organized and staff is professional, but what you get for your clothes in my opinion is not worth the process. Without going into detail I received less than $10 in cash. When you get your receipt there is no itemized bill to show you what the payout was on each item. I don't like this. So yeah, still looking for another thrift store consignment shop that will give me a decent payout, because this wasn't it. I envisioned myself walking back in there only to see that Madewell jacket on the rack for $30 after I was given $3.00 for it. The prices on the resold clothes are not low.

We are currently in one of the coldest seasons and these guys told me that they are not taking any types of jackets, sweaters, or coats. The staff, as young as they are, is just as naïve as the owner, not knowing anything of value when it's brought right to them. Do not give me wrong. I do not just take long trips to places without checking the reviews and calling first which I did both I called it was told to bring the items up to the store for a closer look, my biggest regret as soon as I arrive, I was told that I would have to wait in a line queue for about an hour. Which doesn't make any sense because on the phone I was told I could come before 2pm and I would not have to worry about waiting if I scheduling ahead. After being instructed to wait I I was given a receipt with my phone number and email and instructed to look out for a call from these guys, they never called, and I also was told that NONE of my items could be taken in. Absolutely ridiculous when you have to make that long of a drive and you also call ahead to take the proper precautions just to still be met with an unfortunate outcome. These guys are terrible. Do not come here. The parking is atrocious. The staff is ignorant and their communication is awful.

Just went back to the shop yesterday -- here are some updates!…read more - The shop is open now on Sundays from 3-6 pm... and NOT open on Saturday from 12-3. Essentially its hours now are Thursday-Sunday 3-6 pm. Even if the door is locked, just knock and the shopkeeper will let you in. - The owner (Sylvia) is going to start transitioning the clothes to the spring season... coming in a couple of weeks or so! - On that note, the shop's strong suit are the accessories -- lots of nice cocktail hats/handbags/jewelry. Examine closely, because pretty much everything in there's for sale. - Starting next week she's going to start making prices static. Yeah, no more haggling, but at least it will be a lot less pressure for those who are uncomfortable with negotiating. In conjunction, some of the prices of the clothing will be adjusted... so maybe that amazing paillette jacket will be cheaper now? Also, I've learned something recently, having become acquainted with the owner. Y'know how it might be kind of intimidating/irritating when the shopkeeper tries to talk to you/make comments about what you're browsing? Well, I always found it that way. All in all, it's just the keeper trying to be friendly, not necessarily trying to pressure you into buying something. Ain't nothin' wrong with trying to be nice.

The prices are to die for, especially in DC where most vintage or thrift stores are anything but thrifty. The shop owner, Sylvia, is such a sweet lady. She gave me a great deal on some amazing pieces I would have easily paid double for and still would have walked out thinking I got a good price. Needless to say I will be going back again and again and will do my best to spread the word about this lovely little gem. I am almost a bit hesitant to share this with too many of my friends, as I want to make sure I get all the goodies, but there seemed to be plenty to go around and the shop owner is just too nice and lovely to not help support. Go there - you will find something you love. Great place to buy gifts!!!
