What a great shop! The owner is a local artist, maker, and writer who knows the area well. After selling her jewelry at the Flea Market at Eastern Market for years, she opened her own shop in the heart of Takoma Park. Find her gold and silver jewelry behind glass in the front of the store. They also sell a variety of crafts, gifts, and goods. It's one of those shops where it's so fun to wander and see what is on the shelves. They also support local artists and makers. For example, they have several hyper local guide books to help connect people to the city and area. read more

I really like this shop. It's the best local spot if you need to grab a gift for almost any age. My stroller barely fits, but my kids love going in here. Can't say ownership likes it as they're neutral at best. My oldest picked a toy for her new baby sister. Quality is usually very good, but I did get a sticker book once that does not stick at all. The print is so cute though that my girl uses it as paper dolls. read more

I love Tabletop so much. Really missing the Dupont Circle one, but I really enjoy Takoma Park, as well. This store is great for gifts, whether for yourself or someone else. I especially love them for home goods, like tableware (makes sense). Their cookbook selection is nice and I appreciate the Jacobsen Salt items. The unique jewelry in the back is a nice touch. I was visiting from Los Angeles. I was excited to get some gifts to bring back home. I walked in with my family. We were the only people in the store. The woman behind the counter never greeted us or acknowledged us in the 10 minutes that we were in the store. I manage a retail store and would be appalled if my staff ignored customers like we were ignored. I found my gifts elsewhere. read more

So right away you notice how weird it is that both the male owner and female employee are standing and scowling at shoppers as they you know, shop. Way to invite shoppers in, LOL. My little is interested in some of the showcased items, so we continue to browse. I should've followed my gut, and walked out..... I see some decorated onesies, and ask if they carry kids t-shirts. "NOPE," says the owner, with a sour look on his face. Wow, is this how you treat shoppers that what to buy s*** from you? Maybe that's why no one else is in the store?' I ask, "Are they coming or...?" "NEVER," he interrupts and bellows loudly. "Because then I'd have to carry a lot of sizes." Oh ok, like a store. Haha. This store is GREAT for gifts, surprises, or just some nice finds to have around your home. It's also great for finding puzzles, games, or hobbies to do on your own. They also had quality cards for special occasions, and many unique items - and all for a good value - that really made me appreciate this store. It's a shop that's worth coming by over and over again, whenever I'm in the area to see what finds for sale the owner has managed to pull out of the top hat. This store is a trap! Beware. Once you walk in, the place immediately transports you to a magnificent haven of Knick knicks, beautiful and truly unique items you'd never thought of looking for. Every corner is filled with something for everyone like socks with hilarious sayings, brightly printed bags, umbrellas with wooden duck handles and baskets shaped in practical cylinders for the farmer's market. I smiled the entire time shopping and totally scored a really awesome astronomy paperweight with the sun and planets. Thrilled to pieces. read more

Easily the best shop to get gifts, cards and seasonal wares around. They carry a fun assortment of things for home, body and baby in addition to general fun items you don't *need* but definitely *want*. Inventory changes monthly and they always have fun seasonal items. There is often a tableside sidewalk sale since Inventory turns around so quickly. One star off as customer service is fairly lacking/unfriendly but you really don't need it in a store like this as the merchandise sells itself! read more

How they managed to cram so much personality into one adorable little shop, I'll never know. The shop is chock-full of wonderful, fantastic, hilarious things for your home that you never knew you needed, but shouldn't ever have to live without. I pass by this store almost everyday after work. I have walked in a few times in the past just to look and those times I have been greeted and attended to by one of the employees who is a black woman and she made me feel super welcomed. Today however, I was the only customer in the store and I was only acknowledged when I walked up to where the employee was standing (not the same woman as usual). I wasn't helped at all and I was completely ignored. I was in the store for at least 20 minutes if not more, and I couldn't even ask a question because at one point she went into the back room for like 5 minutes. I had planned on buying a gift for a baby shower and always thought the items in the store were super cute and it was a bonus that everything was eco-friendly. Also, my co-worker goes there all the time and always has a good experience. I thought that I could walk out with something in hand, but based on my experience I didn't think it was worth spending my money at all and decided to go elsewhere. I'm so crazy about this store, I don't even know where to begin. Beautiful stationery, funky kitchen wears, quirky children's toys, tasteful home goods... Most of the items are locally made and eco-friendly, which is super great. They range from vintage-inspired to tastefully modern with quirk and elegance always apparent. If there was a store made for me, Tabletop would be it. I think I'm about to become one of their best customers. Personally, I like to take my time perusing, and if I have a question, I'll ask it, so I didn't mind that I wasn't greeted or even acknowledged until I placed my large load of items on the cashier's desk. Sure, it's always nice when someone says hello, but I found that once I was in the purchasing phase, we struck up a pleasant conversation and the woman working was super nice. So while they may be a tad standoffish, that doesn't mean they aren't nice. The store is beautiful, fun, and a wonderful asset to this little strip of locally-owned businesses. I know I'll be back time and time again for birthday gifts, cards, home items, and toys for my little girl. It's just a great shop with a great vibe, and so worth checking out. read more

This review is primarily based on their service. Not the selection of products. This store is super cute and very hip. They have fantastic eco-friendly, local and high quality items. So everything is a little on the higher price end. I had peeked in from the window time to time, and really needed to get a some coasters and a serving tray. I walked in and saw a good amount of people in the store. The other customers were greeted and show items to, however when I walked in, and walked around, even after the crowd left - I was completely ignored. I wanted to get some help with a tray I saw on the top shelf, and waited until the employees were finished chatting with one another about their personal lives. But it never ended, and even when I stood by them - I was still completely ignored. I even made eye contact with an individual, still nothing. At that point, it wasn't worth it. I'm all about small businesses, but if you are a small business, you cannot afford to have a lack of customer service. They lost my potential sale, and judging by the prices, it would had at least been a $75 purchase. Not bad if you ask me? They do carry Matt & Nat bags, which I absolutely love and collect. It was nice to see them carry some of the styles. But I will continue to purchase my Matt & Nat bags elsewhere. read more

Such a variety of amazing stuff, we had to go in twice in one day. The staff was amazing, I can't remember the woman's name who helped us but she was so nice and informed us on products we were interested in but wasn't aggressively trying to get us to buy, which is always a relief. I ended up buying a few Christmas gifts, and quite a few things for myself. Looking for a gift for the person that has everything? This is your place and it doesn't hurt that the prices are reasonable. Definitely will be back :) read more

I like the fact that Takoma Park has custom gift shops, that do not have to rely on name brands to make a holiday - and this is definitely one stop for that. From custom cards, cool items to display photographs, to much much more that customizes the home for children, the home, the kitchen and much more - this is your stop. Stopping in on Christmas Eve was maybe not the best idea, BUT - is it ever? Great experience, great owner, and great overall aura - this is a stop you want to keep on your check list! read more

I have always received wonderful service from Tabletop and Sorry that Natasha had a bad experience. Not only has staff been helpful in answering questions about merchandise but twice now I've gone in with issues (1) lost an earring in a pair and wanted to replace a single earring and 2) received a necklace and needed chain resized) and they handled them quickly and easily. I've found some great, unique gifts across sizes and price ranges. I love their cards but actually wish they'd carry even more as it's really the only place in town to get cards. read more
