Okay, I gotta stand up for this place a little. I ate here a couple of weeks ago and thought it was amazing. When I have something local and delicious, I eventually get around to posting a solid review. I log in to yelp and see a small handful of 3 star and even 1 star reviews. I read through them and talk about not understanding the concept of what this place is. It's a wings joint. Most wing joints have a limited menu because you go here to eat wings. Then I see a review knocking that everything is fried. Well, good wings are fried (not baked) it's a wings joint. Are you wanting them to put a salad on the menu? Smh. Then criticized for a lack of dipping sauces? The wings are sauced, you want to add more sauce and jack up the flavor? I don't get it. Someone else knocked them for a limited drink selection. Okay, I didn't order a drink on my visit. Maybe they're a new place and the soda machine will come with time. Let's hope that happens because nowadays most people aren't satisfied with paying for an overpriced can of soda. They'd rather pay for an overpriced cup of soda with free refills. Lol.
Okay, sorry. I just love local joints and pull for their success, especially if they're doing something right and they are. I will focus my review on the primary reason to eat here. The Wings! Make no mistake, this is a wings joint, so don't come in expecting a huge assortment of menu items. It's called Valley Wings so your expectations of what's on the menu should stop there and when you see a few extras, it should come at a pleasant surprise.
Let's get to the wings. I ordered the traditional bone-in wings. They have boneless and chicken tenders as well, but I go to wings places to get real chicken wings. If they can do that right, then I'm happy. They do it right. A good chicken wing IMO, should be fried (not baked) meaty, moist and tender on the inside with a nice crispy skin that stays crispy even with the sauce. My wings were perfect.
I ordered a 10pc. so I could split my order into a couple of different flavors. They have some dry rub options in addition to different sauces. I wanted to try both. I went with the garlic parm as my (sort of) dry option and Korean BBQ for my wet. I say the garlic parm is sort of a dry rub because it's in the middle. When I ordered he explained that it's covered in a buttery garlic sauce and then covered in the parm which makes it like a dry rub. Good enough for me. I also ordered a side of fries.
The wings were perfect. I ordered to go and the crispiness of the wings held up perfectly. The presentation of the wings was fantastic. Usually I bring wings home from a place and they're tossed in the container all over the place. They took the time to pay each wing in perfectly lined up to keep both flavors separate, and to present the food with care. Nicely done. I also love that they sprinkle some herbs over the top to give it a little extra flavor and visual appeal. It shows more attention to detail and they care not only about the wings tasting good but looking good as well. The garlic parm wings were awesome. Buttery, with that shredded parm and garlic, with the wings all being very meaty moist and tender. Really good! The Korean BBQ sauce was really good too. It's a spicy/sweet sauce that has that Korean BBQ flavor. These being a sauced wing vs dry rub, still were pretty crispy, even after I got home and started to eat them. The wing's crispiness didn't fall under the pressure of the sauce. Lol. Now onto the fries. Amazing. I love fresh cut fries. I love how they do their fresh cut fries and their cut is not one I see often if at all. What's unique is that they're like steak fries but not as thick. They taste very homemade and reminds me of my childhood when my mom or dad would just slice up a couple of potatoes thin and throw them in a cast iron skillet with some oil. Love that.
I did see they have some really tasty sounding loaded fries on the menu that I hope to try later. Chicken Alfredo fries and a few others. Sounds delicious.
Now for the customer service. These guys were super nice, really cool guys. They clearly took pride in what they were doing and how they served it up. They answered any questions I had. They left a good impression on me and I really want them to be a success so they stay around. I live nearby and there's not a lot of great wing places close to me.
Let me just close by saying to anyone who chooses to read this. Judge this place by the wings first. The point of this place is to eat wings. Anything outside of that should be judged as an extra bonus. It's all about the wings and these guys make a seriously tasty wing. What more do you need? read more
