The food was disgusting. We were so excited by the reviews. We couldn't wait to go try it out. We ordered a hamburger n hotdog to go , due to our dog being in the car, we thought we would eat outside. My husband wanted to leave the minute she started putting things in the microwave. I waited for our food since we ordered . Gave her a good tip despite what I thought (not the friendliest) took our food went to join my husband n dog. We opened the food. He couldn't see the hotdog under all the cheese and don't know what that covered it. Took one bite an said NOPE! I was cutting my hamburger in half an pink juice squirted everywhere (after saying it had to be well done) . I couldn't even take a bite. We threw the whole meal in the garbage can that was next to the table. Looked like others had done the same. Sadly wasted our hard earned money n was too nauseated to try an eat anywhere else. One nice bartender the others indifferent even if they have served you 10 times in the past. They don't have a credit card machine so you have to pay in cash or use their ATM machine that takes $3.25 right off your withdrawl. No well drinks just beers and very ratty seating. A great bar if you're a local for conversation but don't expect anyone to warm up to you if you're new. I won't be ever going there again after some rude treatment. If pickles are your idea of "works", then this is your place. $15 for a cheeseburger with no lettuce, tomato, onions, avocado, or bacon is too much, especially when the side is a bag of Ruffles potato chips. We were in the area this week for a Bachelorette Party and stopped by to sit on the beautiful patio for lunch. The patio is lined with gorgeous flowers and bushes that are maintained by one of the owners Karen. Had a wonderful time, ate the awesome hamburgers and drank a few libations! Toward the end of our lunch, Karen's husband & owner Chuck came by and joined us! Wonderful to hear his stories of the past and learn about his commitment to his business and to the community. James Brown might be the hardest working man in show business, but the bartenders here are the hardest working women in the tavern business. (I don't think I've ever seen a guy behind the bar.) That's because your bartender is also your cook. There is a grill and a microwave behind the bar and they are used to turn out everything on the menu. The "World Famous" Valley Burger is only somewhat world famous, because nearby Navy personnel who frequent the tavern travel around the world and tell others about it. You burger is a fresh 1/2-pound patty that is cooked broiler behind the bar. They flip it then pave it with jalapeños and add a mountain of onions on top. They add grated Tillamook cheddar, melt it and add a second layer or cheese and toast the bun. They add their own "secret sauce" (yep it's the standard orange sauce), stick a plastic knife in the top to hold everything together and serve it with a bag of Ruffles. The place is a little local tavern that seems mostly unchanged from the 50's or 60's. In the summer they have a BBQ outside in a large fenced area. Most of the beer taps are pretty pedestrian, but they do have a rotating amber on tap. Yep, always an amber beer of some sort. There is a ginormous wooded statue of John Wayne on the way in. Sort of a 'wooden cowboy.' I need to ask the story behind that some day. read more

Solid burger hands down. The staff has it dialed in to perfection. I must have had 5 or 6 of them in two months while at Indian Island. Older local crowd, friendly even to a New Englander wearing Patriots swag! The photo of the grill is 100% real, you can watch it cook, nothing hidden. The owner is an ex-chopper pilot who like to share a few tails from his time in the jungle. Cool place, would love to go back there someday. The plastic knife is their signature! read more

Seeing the "World Famous Valley Burger" on a menu, my first question is the obvious one, "What makes the Valley Burger world famous?" While the answer, that because a lot of guys who are in the Navy get it and tell others about it around the world, is hilarious in its stupidity, there is nothing funny or stupid about this burger. It is easily one of the best burgers I've had in a long time. This burger is far from standard and I attribute it to the cooking method. No griddling, grilling, or charbroiling here, this baby is plain old broiled. They slap a big fresh 1/2 pound patty in the broiler and let it start to cook. They flip it to cook some more and then add jalapeños and onions on top. Give them a moment and they load grated Tillamook cheddar to the top. Once it's melted they add a second layer or cheese and toast the bun. Take it all out, add a couple pickles, their secret sauce and dish it up next to a bag of ruffles. Cutting into the burger you can see the fantastic quality of the meat used in the burger. Well done, but still loaded with the juiciness you're looking for. Additionally, you see some of the cooked onions and jalapeños drop out from under their big ol' pile of scrumptious gooey melted cheese. It all stacks up perfectly and is tied together with their secret sauce. It has some kick to it and reminds me of the spicy ketchup served at Hudson's Hamburgers over in Coeur D'Alene, ID - juicy enough to add to the burger, but spicy enough to not taste like plain ketchup. While their reason for calling it world famous might not pass muster with me, they have been making this beautiful sandwich for 20 years. Our Sequim Valley Car Club stopped here to have lunch after a driving tour. We had about 14 of us. Frank arranged tables so we could all eat together. He was very quick to get our drinks out. We love The Valley Tavern. I don't think this place has changed since probably the 60's. A little bit divey (in the best way) but always clean and tidy. The food is always delicious and we usually get the bacon cheeseburgers with the works which is outstanding. Go on Friday nights for the best fish and chips on the Olympic Peninsula. Staff is great, they always know what we want It's usually one waitress handling everything which is very impressive! The Valley Tavern just changed hands and wanting to support the new owners, I stopped in for a beer last Sunday evening with my husband. We sat down at the bar and sat there for over 10 minutes and got completely ignored. There were three people working--all three were behind the bar. We were the only people sitting on the side of the bar. We didn't get eye contact, or a "hey!-be right with you" or any acknowledgment at all. They weren't that busy--one of the bartenders stood at one point and looked, with his back to us at the other side of the bar (looking, as though he had nothing to do). We walked out feeling thirsty, and a lot less exuberant about our little local gem of a tavern. We live locally and used to frequent the place when Chuck and Karen owned it, and it was hit or miss about how quickly you would get served. We haven't been ordering food lately because there is one employee (who must still be working there as he was there last Sunday) who has a thick long beard and doesn't wear a beard-net when he cooks and beard hairs in my food are a turn off. I wish it could be more of a welcoming place--it has the potential to be the quintessential neighborhood gathering place. They need to change their attitude toward the customers and be more welcoming-, greet them, smile at them. Even if they are busy...and even if you aren't from a family that was born here. read more

We stopped at the Valley Tavern for a late lunch. We found it to be a nice small town pub with good food and a pleasant mid day crowd of locals. The seats were very comfortable high back chairs. The ceiling and walls had an assortment of decorations including a helicopter blade and the front end of a boat. The server was friendly and helpful. They don't have a big full kitchen, just a broiler at a small work area behind the bar. The menu is limited by the limited kitchen, but what they do serve is well prepared. Our Valley Hamburgers were 1/2 lb of broiled meat, not fried. It had a generous heap of shredded real cheese, not the processed crud found in many places. The buns were lightly toasted too. They don't take credit cards so bring cash. Parking was ample on both sides with a drive around the back. A patio was out front. I'll stop there again the next time I'm in Port Hadlock read more

It's a neighborhood place, and the only bar I ever visited during a year's stay in the neighborhood. No hard liquor, and a friendly, low key local crowd. Food is OK. The burger is as others have advertised. A very friendly, hard-working staff. The place really caters to locals. Your change will include Susan B. Anthony dollars, which coincidentally work in the washer and dryer available in the back room. The owner lives above the bar. The staff are local gals who work pretty damn hard to take care of the patrons. There's an outside patio and a smokers' ghetto in a little shack.
