I have been to this place twice now, when in Pt. Townsend. It's a bar. That is my best description. And what you would expect from a bar. They have a couple signature drinks that I enjoyed. The chicken wings weren't a bad addition either. Bartender/server was very friendly and helpful when ordering. I do think it maintains daily with just one employee behind the bar. When on the Port Townsend waterfront, it is an option to stop in for the "almost saloon" setting. read more

What a neat little bar in Port Townsend! We were just exploring the town from Whidbey and decided to stop by Anchor. We were immediately greeted and the guy explained the menu - anything with an anchor you can add your own stuff and pretty much make your own burger etc. I decided to keep it simple with my burger. It was friggin delicious! You can taste the smokiness. It hit the spot. I also got a cocktail, the "fruffy bullshit" - also delicious!! A local here, gave it three tries and am over it. Went once with a male friend, got decent burgers. He was treated decently. I was ignored. (Figured we had stepped into some defunct decade but decided I didn't care.) Next, went by myself (f) for a to-go order. Bartender was patronizing. Cook coughed into his hands and returned to prepping the food. I was grossed out. The third time was late at night with few places open. I ordered a bowl of chili with onions and no cheese to go. The bartender added surcharges not mentioned on the menu (a "to-go surcharge"?!?!, a surcharge for onions on chili?!?!) which doubled the listed price. Then it wasn't even chili! They had merely dumped a bunch of barbecue topping into a bowl. Very weird. They have no phone number so you can't call the place, and you certainly can't reach a manager to complain. Interesting looking bar, the art along the walls caught my attention. Came here for a late night snack. The service was relatively quick for the time we went. Buns have a nice toast to them so every bite has a nice texture with juicy patty and delicious bun combined. Yum! Definitely get the garlic Truffle Fries- we needed more garlic but found some at the bottom of basket. Wide selection of beers and cocktails if you are looking for a great date night experience. I came here with a group of friends & it was mediocre. Service was pretty good, but it is not table service. You do have to go to the bar to order food & drinks which kinda sucks when you're at a booth and have people on both sides of you. I had the Tuscany clam chowder and it was so yummy! My friend had the black bean burger and she was not a fan. She said it was literally falling apart in her hands and needed something more to keep it together. The 2 that ordered smash burgers loved them! Said it was a perfect charbroiled outside with a medium inside and had fresh house made pickles. The anchor burger- ordered by another friend was a 4.1 out of 5 according to them. Fries are cheap and HUGE. One small order can feed 2-4 people! Overall, it was ok. read more

Classic historic Water Street setting with exposed brick, original wood floors, and high ceilings with loft seating. Overall the layout is workable, I liked being able to sit at the window to keep an eye on my MC. If it was busy, I can imagine the "order at the bar" style would get clogged up. Bartender was a friendly gal, sorry I forget your name. Got the Cheesesteak, it came out much faster than expected, that was awesome as I did need to get on the road again. The sandwich was tasty good, but ended up light on the meat. Now I understand why they offer dble meat ($4) option. That's a ding to me as the sammy already is at a premium price, all the meat needed should be in there already. The last 2"+ of bread was only onion. Loads of good fries, but over salted, so had to waste what I would have eaten if it wasn't so salty. A fella at the bar ordered a burger w/ out fries and mentioned salt. I didn't understand why until the plate arrived. And one more issue that's a pet peeve. There's ketchup, mustard, mayo, and relish on the tables for free. But asking for a lil ranch for dipping gets a $1.50 charge. WTF?? Unfortunately the server had to pay for that out of her tip since she didn't tell me it was an upcharge. Do they really think customers feel Ranch is a premium condiment when there's all that other stuff on the table? I could have made my own fry sauce at the table. I'll return some day to see if the Owner listens to the reviews and makes a couple very easy changes. If so I'll happily adjust my rating to a 5 star. We stopped here for a drink while we came to check out the town from Idaho. I had the most amazing Bloody Mary I have ever had. It was spice the way I love them. My boys each tried it as they don't like bloody Mary's but loved this one. I can't wait to come back just for the spicy Bloody Mary. The bartender was so nice & friendly as well. The smash burger is 10 now. Not as good as before, it was pre-grilled, dry, tasteless. not worth the new price. Had the garlic truffle fries, could not get through the basket, too much garlic oil. Don't mind garlic, but when you can still taste it 3 hours later, its too much. Beer is still expensive and they don't post prices on anything, so good luck when you get your bill. I prefer restaurants with chefs that are willing to make easy accommodations for allergies. I'm allergic to eggs. Asked for a simple switch of rolls for a burger. True, the brioche is round and the other egg-free roll more like a hot dog bun, but I asked if the chef could just put the meat on it, give me a knife and I'd cut it in half to fit. Bartender wouldn't even ask, said chef for sure wouldn't do it because "he's a bit of an a-hole" with an "I'm not poking the beast" look in their eyes. I came for the smash burger. Ended up with a torta. First restaurant I've been to that wouldn't accommodate an allergy other than to tell me to order something else. If I hadn't been with a friend I would've gone elsewhere. But the main reason I am writing this review is because of what she captured when she took a picture. When she took it she saw no figure in the upper right, but after she reviewed it. Wow the figure was there. She took another picture to compare.... No figure. She asked the bartender if there was anyone up there. She said he said no and seemed shocked. Please understand, I have never, ever been inside this place or interacted with any of the staff. My wife ordered 2 anchor burgers with fries to go, and we ate down the street at the Maritime center. This was an experience. The burger patty lacked any sort of symmetry, it was the textbook definition of "hand pressed" and it was cooked to a perfect medium well. Perfect, crispy vegetables, perfect bun, perfect cheese, perfect perfect perfect. This unwieldy saucy cheeseburger was the most delicious, memorable burger I have ever had, ever. Even If this "burger bar" smelled weird or was twice as rowdy as the Mos Eisley cantina it would still get 5 stars for it's 6 star burger. read more

Went into this bar on a random Monday with a friend a couple weeks ago, the owner was bartending, and he was very kind and attentive! I was excited to go back. The next time I went in a totally different bartender and he was a huge bummer. His name is (Mike?) and he had green hair. I'm not sure if he was having a bad night or what, but he was being extremely rude and rolling his eyes and ignoring my friend and I. The burgers however were delicious and the drinks were not bad. I asked a local business for a dive bar with a good food recommendation and without hesitating, he said Anchor is a great bar with the best burger in town. He was right. I was surprised they weren't on Yelp yet. Our friendly bartender was very helpful. I ordered the Smash Burger adding an extra patty and bacon. It was delicious, as were the "small" order of fries which was big enough to share. My friend ordered the Uncle Gino's Italian Beef. It was very good, but we both agreed we like the burger better. If you're looking for a phenomenal small-town bar in downtown PT with exceptional food, friendly service and knowledgeable bartenders- look no further than the Anchor. You have likely heard of the concept of a "third place" in life. You have home, work, but the "third place" refers to somewhere that "anchors" you in the community. In a sense, it's a home away from home. I believe this to be true for many PT locals that frequent this hidden gem. Walk into this establishment and you will feel a real sense of community. I especially love the artistic vibe with cool art on the walls and exposed brick in the historic building where the Anchor resides. The "bar food" is a gastronomical experience! I'm currently working my way through their menu and have found one thing in common with each menu item that I order- everything is cooked to perfection, the portion is hefty, the service is prompt, and the food is reasonably priced. I have yet to experience the full menu but among my favorites are the Smash Burger, Garlic Truffle Fries (with house made ranch dressing), the Salmon Sandwich, Uncle Gino's Italian Beef, the Pub Dog, and an array of house made dressings/sauces to dip to my heart's delight! There are signs posted above the kitchen window that read "Do not make eye contact with kitchen staff" and "Beware of Attack Chef" - just a fair warning from this reviewer. Unlike many PT businesses, the Anchor is open daily, serves food daily and I can always count on them for a great snack or meal, a friendly bartender, and a clean establishment. read more

Great bar in an old storefront. The food was great, but the burgers are messy, so take a hint that you get extra napkins. They have a nice selection of draft beer, wine and ciders. There is a loft space that could be nice for larger groups. The servers there were great about clearing dishes from tables after dropping off food for other patrons. These are all great things. There are two negatives though. The benches along the wall are horribly uncomfortable. They are built to not make you want to stay and if they are hosting live music you cannot easily face the musicians, but there are not many regular tables front of house unless you want to sit under the stairs or next to a foosball table. If you sit near the bar you won't be able to see the musicians well. The other negative, for some, will be that your social media sharing is blocked. So if you want to share the awesome, food, beer and music you will just have to wait until you get home. read more

Bartender was extremely rude, green haired guy. Wouldn't let me leave with my food after I PAID for it. Made we wait fifteen minutes for fries and I saw them sitting the whole time. We had a little bit of trouble with our order. Food sat on the counter until it was cold. We did something we never do, we sent it back. The bartender (there's no wait staff) understood and brought us hot from the back replacements. We also ordered a wedge salad and it was awesome so we ate that until the hot food came. It was great. Just understand that there is no real wait staff and you order and pay in advance at the bar. I'm not a fan of that.
