Discovery Bay Brewing - I really enjoyed the Mid Dark Energy Baltic Porter from Social Fabric Brewing!

Social Fabric Brewing has moved into the spot where Discovery Bay Brewing was and is under new…read moreownership. I have to say it's an improvement on the beer quality from the previous brewery not trying to sound like a jerk there... it's just how I genuinely feel on the matter. I already submitted the name change, business hours and website to Yelp to change so hopefully all of that is pushed through. I could just have reported that the business was closed that was here before but on social media it seems like Social Fabric was using the Discovery Bay accounts so I figured I's submit changes instead since that was the pattern I was seeing. As I have said I felt like the beer has improved and I had Social Fabric Brewing earlier in the summer at a taphouse in Port Angeles and when we heard that the brewery was opening their own taproom we decided to proceed and make a trip here as soon as Social Fabric was in operation. Now, onto the beer! I had a very nice Baltic Porter here called Mid Dark Energy which I really enjoyed with it's roastiness flavor profile to match up with the nippy weather we were experiencing. They also had some pretty creative beers on tap that we got tastes of like the PB & Jansport which was like a Peanut butter and jelly beer which I do like to sample when I see one and then the had the Pumpkin Beans which was a pumpkin beer that was very good also. Definitely a fun brewery to try and I walked away quite satisfied with the brewery that has taken over the helm at this location.

Not entirely sure if there is a surplus of parking, but we managed to get a spot in the empty lot across the street. The location seemed a little bit off the beaten path, but not far from main roads. The person behind the bar was friendly. It also has two bathrooms which is something I have come to appreciate from a brewery. We just had one beer, I don't recall what exactly but I am sure it was tasty. What I liked most about this place is that they had food available, including vegan hot dogs. The price was very reasonable, only 5$ and it came with chips. It took 15 minutes or so, but usually when you are having a beer you are not in a rush. I appreciate that he came out with the basket of chips and you got to pick which kind you wanted. I also like that he brought out a condiment basket which included dill relish.

Y'all knocked it out of the park!…read more Brit owned shop offering comfort food that is a perfect complement to its coastal town. Don't miss the salmon chowder! This is likely the most memorable soup I've ever had. Creamy, smooth, with the perfect balance of fresh buttery salmon. If you come for one thing let it be this!!! As a Floridian who's traveled to the New England states, I can confidently say I know seafood, and this chowder still surprised me! The rock crab Mac n cheese was also excellent. Warm, gooey, and bottomless. The crumb layer enhances each bite of that tasteful crab. Again, the perfect balance of the seafood flavor with the rest of the meal, making each bite hit with the same comfort as the first. Staff are friendly and outgoing, and are eager to provide recommendations. The service was quite quick. Plenty of seating though the shop is on the smaller side, it will seat groups of 6 easily. The vibe is so chill. The backdrop of the town and its quaint shops next door felt like I was in a hallmark film.

I was getting ready to leave the area and I didn't want to miss my ferry but I was starving, so I ordered a couple items for pickup and headed over. I chose the Teddy Oggie which is a traditional steak pasty and I also ordered their Big Dawg because I'm a big girl and I'm familiar with the size of a pasty so I thought I might need a little something extra. When I arrived, the vibe was kind of awkward. There was music playing and there were only one or two other people inside. The staff wasn't particularly welcoming and after a few minutes I was happy to grab my food and leave. As I walked back to my car I realized I had a little time before I had to head to the ferry so I stopped at an outdoor table to have a little sample before I headed out. The food was so dry. And I don't mean a little dry, I mean really really dry. The pasty in particular was overwhelmingly crusty with very little moisture or flavor to balance it out. I was hoping for something warm and savory but instead it was just brittle and stale. It tasted old . Like it had been sitting out for a while and then been overcooked . After a few bites I threw it away and felt relieved that I had bought a second item because I hadn't eaten all day. The sausage was just as bad. The bun was so dry it was crunchy. I didn't mind that the sausage skin had a crunch to it, but unfortunately once I got inside it wasn't moist or juicy either. Oh and the little tiny sliver of mustard that they put on top? I could have pushed that all into one bite and it still wouldn't have been enough. I took a few bites and threw that away too. I understand pasties can be crusty and that's part of what makes them a pasty, but there's a huge difference between being so dry and crusty that it's difficult to eat and having a real savory pasty. The whole experience was so disappointing. I don't know if Yelp has made a huge mistake with the rating for this place or if I just caught them on a bad day. I love the idea and I often go to British pub style restaurants when I can but based on my experience here I would not recommend this location.
