I have been a patient of Dr Nguyen for 20 years +. I started with him at Costco; migrated to his practice in Manteca; his first location in Stockton and now his current location. He has very high standards for his practice; how it's run and for the most part-his employees. I've personally seen them come, go, and be terminated if they're not meeting the minimum standards required. While a majority of his staff is very professional and knowledgeable as well as supportive of the doctor's mission and vision, there is an overall average of 1 percent of the employees who are striving to learn the doctor's commitment to providing the optimal in patient care and satisfaction. But I am confident that those select ones will grow over time and understand the cost of being in business for patients and how it ties in to being the face of the company versus a stick in the spokes of the wheel. All but one employee has the "it factor" and that's superb! Susanna is also a great leader and example for others. I've know her since she started working there and she's always been a great person and has awesome customer service. Overall, the team is a very well oiled machine that is capable and caring. The doctor is very caring and cautious when it comes to precision, customer experience, ethics and integrity. Anyone (patient) who thinks differently solely based on availability and selfishness, not giving consideration that doctors and staff alike need time to level up and recover, they're the ones who need to take a look at themselves, and not the staff. HORRENDOUS SERVICE. Be prepared to wait egregious time frames. (2-3 hours) You will be met with short and crass employees. All of but one was correct in her demeanor towards patients. (The woman with long black straight hair) They will not efficiently check insurance ahead of time, for whatever reason, so this will result in other patients being taken ahead of you whilst they " try and figure it out " , "you could just have a seat. "The attitude given by the front face of this practice needs help and a lot of work. Might I suggest taking a recourse in basic human relations. You will receive nothing but excuses and turned backs as you are inquiring about protocols in regards to important documents and simple signatures from the doctor. Go elsewhere. Instead of arguing with these "women" , I decided to Immediately call elsewhere and this resulted in booking with Professional Optometric Corporation over on Pacific Ave. The woman who answered the phone was polite and patient. Overall this place needs to do better and they definitely don't deserve your time and peace. You can very likely take your business and familys business elsewhere. My husband has been a patient at this office for over 10 years and I had never really had an eye appointment before but I knew it was time so I made my first eye appointment here earlier this year. I had come with him many times before and he really likes the doctor here. The doctor was lovely. Very friendly and efficient. I only spent a few minutes with him and now I know why my husband will never stop coming here. That being said, if you read through the reviews, you will find that many people really like the doctor here and their negative reviews are almost exclusively about his staff. I also did not care for the staff that helped me, for a number of reasons. There was a very long wait time and it was extended twice by staff having aggressive discussions and being dismissive of other people in the waiting area. Also, I was brought back twice before seeing the doctor. Once for a quick exam where I looked into a machine and the staff was not helpful at all. I have never had an exam before and instead of explaining the machine or what was happening, she seemed annoyed. She also did not tell me that air was about to be blown into my eyeball and I really would have appreciated a heads up on that one. A different staff member brought me back again after I was returned to the waiting room and then told me to pick out glasses from a wall. I explained that I didn't think I needed glasses. She told me to just go ahead and pick a pair now. I explained that if the doctor said I needed glasses I would be happy to pick some and she again told me I needed to pick something now while she had time. I was really confused by this and asked to get my husband, who was in the waiting room to help me chose to which she replied that no one else was allowed to be back there. ---I have been back there MULTIPLE times to help my husband choose his glasses--- but she insisted I choose and I could not bring my husband back and seemed very impatient while I tried a few on. It seems like common sense that someone who needs glasses...someone who has difficulty seeing...might want help from a trusted person to choose something they are going to wear on their face everyday. Anyway, I don't know if she was lying or lazy or they changed their policy but regardless, most of the staff I interacted with was fairly unpleasant. If I were doing an overall rating where I included all my interactions with his staff, this review would probably be closer to 2 stars, but I feel that is unfair considering that the doctor himself should be rated much higher than that. I would like to continue coming here as the doctor is great but I really hope that in the future he takes more time to evaluate his staff and makes an effort to have them work on their customer service. read more

Honestly I feel like the front staff should represent the company in lots of ways and she was anything but. She was rude, short, dismissive. I'm usually not a complainer, but I felt like I had to say something here with hopes the Dr can see this message. Talk to your girls, whether they're having a bad day or not, a fake smile would've been nice. Those girls upfront are what patients see and deal with when they first walk in. Maybe some of them don't need to be there. I felt like making an appointment was irritating to her, and I even spoke up and said Thank you before I left and she just stared at the computer like no one was standing in-front of her. Just flat out rude. No, customers are not always right but we're also patients of yours, we don't need people to kiss up to us but is it so hard to "act" kind??? The optometrist is okay but the help is rude and unhelpful. It appears that they think they are doing patients a favor instead of the other way around. I took someone who has been a patient here for years to choose eyeglasses. The Mexican woman who took us back to choose told us to choose from two small section. I asked her why only from those sections and then called us to the back where there were more glasses without answering the question. She thought we could not afford the more expensive glasses so she discriminated us even though she had the insurance record. The selection is not that big. I picked one and grabbed it. The woman told me to tell her which ones we wanted to see and she would get them for us then walked away to the desk. A second woman came back and they talked. I had seen two glasses that I liked so I told the woman to come back to get them. The women asked me something. I told them again to come get the glasses as the first told me to not touch them. The second woman told me "we are asking you ..." rudely. None of them came to get the glasses so I took them. The patient chose a pair. As many of you know there are options you can get but this women did not go over those with us. She asked a question about the current glasses. I told her to look in the file and she told me that there was nothing except for the exam record. She could have flipped a few pages and found the previous glasses records. She is lazy. The first woman rushed everything and they weren't even that busy. We left forgetting to add some things because of it. We went back less than half an hour later to add them. I saw the woman in question and told her. She told me they had already sent the glasses to the lab and that nothing could be added. The optometrist came out and the glasses appeared. She did not want to do it. The staff is unfriendly. A lot of patients probably leave because of it. The women were not doing anything yet they lied about the glasses being sent to the lab. I've been coming to Velley-optometry for a few years. Not every year luckily but every other year. The staff was always so welcoming and they worked as a team. Dr. Nguyen is ALWAY in great spirits and happy to see his patients that I loved to refer a lot of patients here along with family members. I called in October or early September to schedule an appointment for my family and myself. The soonest they had was one for December 9 and the other December 15 because they couldn't fit 3 patients, which I completely understand due to Covid and maybe possibly sort staff (I don't know) the girl who made my appointment sound like she was having a bad day but she was snobby but I just brushed it off. I went first because I'm in desperate need of glasses, I went to my appointment and the very skinny - petit girl with a heavy accent and blonde hair was RUDE! I have Government insurance and you're only allowed to pick an item from the first wall to the right but on my history chart I never get the free glasses, I alway pay for the glasses so I asked her if I can take a look at the other glasses and she told me in a snobby way " NO, I'm not going to be going back and forth so you can look at glasses and you might come back to this wall." I was taken back and then so also adds on " don't get glasses that don't match your face" Now that I look back at it I should have just put her on blast and asked her what her problem was but I loved that office so much that I'm just thinking to myself to let it go. I went to got whatever glasses they had on the wall. The Doctor was awesome as always and as I was walking out the receptionist told me that they have my info ( because I filled out a form updating my information) and will call me once my glasses are ready for pick up. Then February comes, I called to follow up on my glasses and the Skinny blonde ( who took my in) picked up and told me " No, it's still in process. We will call you" the 2 weeks go by and I stopped by to follow up and they told me that they don't have my full Insurance information on file and they called me and left voicemails. THEY NEVER UPDATED MY INFORMATION THAT I FILLED ON THE DATE OF MY APPOINTMENT. I was upset and I kept calm but told them that this is very upsetting because I've been patiently waiting and what really made me mad was that the manager sitting in the back right corner told me " sorry for the misunderstanding but we have to still order your glasses" The staff needs better training! Who dropped the ball? Why didn't they check my insurance the day prior to my appointment like every other health office does or the day of my appointment. I called again on April 5th and still nothing. I asked if they can just cancel my order so I can go somewhere else because from December 9th to Now April 18 and still nothing. She told me there's nothing they can do about and if I want to report it to my health insurance to do so because they are going to tell them the same thing they told me. Dr. Nguyen, please have a meeting with your staff. I worked in the medical field for 11 years and this is the first! We have have our days but this was just one thing after another. I thought our patients would just complain because they are too needy but WOW THIS IS AWFUL! For the Manager own up to your team's mistakes and don't just say " sorry for the misunderstanding" For the petit skinny Mexican girl with the accent have better people skills , your demeanor is awful and you could have easily said " unfortunately, due to Covid and other families in the area we can't go back and forth, let's look at these first and if you're not happy let's take a look at the other glasses." I called them to see if They had any warranty that covered the scratch they said no because it was not purchased, but I was not offered that service will not be going back they should at least have a general one time Walmart does not be returning back to this place read more

We were highly recommended to this place. My husband has been there a few times and it was a good experience, so we decided to take our 13 years old to get an eye exam and got some glasses there. We bought the glasses and bought the warranty. About 2 months later or son loss the screw for the ear piece of the glass. We spoke to the optical person there and asked if we could go ahead and use the warranty. She advised us that we could only use it once. We told her his lens are scratch and to go ahead and order the lens also so we coukd fix all of the parts that was to be warranty. His team who are supposed to be experts neglect to order what we asked and the warranty was voided. I would definitely expect the staff to have be more customer oriented and service to be better since we did decide to go to a smaller optometry because usually small businesses do appreciate your business. This optometrist and his optical department does not care for the service he provides except the dollar amount. Definitely will not be going back and would not recommend this optometrist. 6/17/2022 We did speak to the manager and it was very unfortunate that it take a review for the office to try and fix the problem after the fact. Which is not worth our time or effort to go to your office. Especially we have called and bern there multiple times to try to resolve the issue. The glasses were purchased less than two months so the warranty has not been a whole year. Would not have met the year until March 2023 There were no parts missing except the screw. The lens were scratched from wearing ( a 13 years old male is wearing it). We spoke two two different staff and no one was willing to help, "there is nothing we can do." If your staff could resolve our concerns at the time we are seeking help that would have been wonderful. The time for service recovery has pass and the only reason I am sending this is if you are not aware of what your staff is doing, then this is the wake-up call. Again definitely would not recommend this place for optical service if you are looking for some kind of service and peace of mind. read more

Not sure if they don't like the job or what... in addition to being on a 30 min hold to make a appointment to PICK UP GLASSES ... I'm sad to have to leave my eye doctor but I refuse to be treated like this. I took my grandson in for an eye exam. The staff were very professional and extremely nice. The office was very clean, keeping social distancing in the waiting area and very welcoming. We were seen almost right away and the doctor made my grandson feel very comfortable for his first eye exam. The doctor did a great job explaining the process to him. I made an appointment last week for my first vision exam. The girls in the front desk were kind and professional. I was called in right away after signing in. The Doctor was very professional and quick. I was nervous at first but they made sure I was comfortable. Super happy because my vision is healthy and I don't need glasses. Dr. Nguyen and staff show a lot of patience with my son when he goes in for his exams. His ASD can at times cause him to not always cooperate, or cause him to be overly nervous or scared. Simple procedures often take a lot of convincing and patience with him. The staff here are always great when it comes to that, and it is always appreciated! read more

I've been coming here for the past 3-4 years with my mother. We seen a few changes but never disappointed. My mother and I are faithful to this place and we highly recommend this business to all our family and friends. I love how they work with you and explain things to you. Very professional and super nice staff! My last visit with my mom was about 2 weeks ago and we worked with a women in the back that was the sweetest! She was sooooo patient with my mother & I. Bless her heart because we are so indecisive on frames because they have so many nice ones. She also explained very well in detail what our insurance covers & which would be a better option to use since we have 2 insurances that covers. She helped us make the right decision and we weren't rushed at all in the process. I forgot the doctors name who did our eye exam but we frequently see him every time we go. He's very nice, helpful & patient as well. We completely understand how busy they can be and how long the glasses may take. I had my eye examination in November 2021. I placed my order and paid what was due. I (finally) received my glasses in April 2022. I was not told my glasses would take 6 months to receive. When I reached out for the status I was told due to covid it was taking longer. Understood. However, this was the excuse I got every time I called. Then it switched to there was only one machine available making the lenses thru P.I.A. OK, understood. However, I was never ever contacted, I had to initiate contact which was difficult because the office rarely answered the phone or returned phone calls when voicemail was left. I finally received a call saying my glasses were ready. I made an appointment to pick them up and when I did they were handed to me by the receptionist. I was given some kind of box with a shiny reflective film to use as a mirror to see what they looked like. There was no acknowledgement of how very late they were. I wasn't handed anything to read to check and make sure I could see correctly. There was no offer of adjustments, no cleaning cloth..nothing. Lastly, these bifocal lenses made by PIA were at least better than the progressive lenses I bought from this same optometrist. I was glad to get these glasses and be done with this office. read more
