No glasses, just update on my eye sight because of medications I take that can potentially lead to going blind. Their office is always clean, it's been updated recently. Staff is always prompt and helpful when it comes to getting my appointments. Doctors are thorough and always answer all my questions. I never leave the office uneasy. read more

I called to make a vision appointment for out-of-pocket for my son, because most places I called if I disclose my son's insurance (because it's Medi-Cal VSP) they basically turn you away. I called to say I will pay out-of-pocket (because obviously he can't see and really needs this appointment) and they were basically pressing me for my insurance info (which I didn't want to disclose) and they denied me an appointment. The lady was like I can't legally take money from you and basically denied my son care. 30 mins later I felt that it was not right how I was spoken to and I asked to speak to a manager. She said this is their policy but she would give him an appointment as a courtesy and said she would make note that she let me know their policies. I had wrote the review before I spoke to the manager and did not delete. The Manager called me back later in the day and told me that my review impacts their business. Well it's the TRUTH and I will not be silenced or shamed. I'd stay away. Any place that doesn't want to help children even when it's cash & needs vision care is a just appalling. read more

In April, has retinapathy and other checks done by Dr. Kim in Modesto. In May, had follow-up visual field study and other tests. He also had my glasses checked and noted that my prescription had changed. Things went well, but requested new prescription for glasses each time. Never got it. Now, June 26, got told on phone to office that "we don't do prescriptions in Modesto, only Manteca and Stockton". What?!? Why was such an obvious thing never said? Will not return to them ever. read more

Dr Girn and Ruth have made my visits great experiences. Whenever I call I get a call back the same day and Dr Girn always provides a lot of knowledge when it comes down to taking care of my dry eyes. He has great energy always coming in the room with a smile and providing great service with authorizations being submitted in a timely manner for testing of any sort. I like how my elderly mother's surgery is scheduled for 3/11, and yet they didn't mail out instructions on medications to stop 14 days before surgery until day #12 prior (postmarked 2/27, received yesterday 3/1, see photos). Also, they scheduled her pre-op with someone other than her regular doctor. I just got a phone call right now at 4:25. It said for me to call them back when I try to call them back right now. It says the physician call is not available. It's only available for emergencies only when I'm trying to make an appointment it says here online that their office is open until 5 PM. That is incorrect. I'm calling right now at 4:33 PM. Their office is already closed. They are not open until 5 PM. I am very upset about this. I'm frustrated, you need to correct this the office is not open till 5 PM like it says it's a lie it is 4:33 PM. The office is closed so I don't know who contacted me right now at 4:25 and left a message. there's no one I can talk to , but somebody called me and left me a voice message for me to contact them right now to set up an appointment but I can't get a hold of nobody because they're damn office is closed. I've been with them since I've been in Manteca and they were great. Not sure what happened thinking the one in Stockton is better at least the opticians answers the phone and return calls. Manteca I had called three days in a roll and supposedly they return calls in 24 hours...... never happened. I took time off work to go pick up some frames the optician had a family emergency and had to leave......I completely understand that, but no one else in that office could change out the lenses and make any adjustments to the frame if needed. Dr. Girn is the best! I have dry eyes and I wear contacts. He is the only eye Dr that took the time to give me the correct eye care that I needed to clear the dry eyes. He had me change to Daily Contacts and gave me daily care instructions. Its a little more work but it helped me. He always made sure that I understood the instructions. This place has the worst customer service! The technicians and receptionists are absolutely horrible. Dr. Cockerham is a wonderful doctor and you really couldn't ask for better. I've never experienced a doctor so devoted to their patients. But the staff act like you're a nuisance. Sonia, specifically, and unfortunately, seems to handle scheduling and paperwork for all the doctors and she has by far the worst customer service out of everyone there. But you just can't get away from her since she deals with everything. I can only personally say I've experience only one technician over the past few years that has been very friendly. The last straw was being lied to when I asked about what the doctor wanted done with testing--the technician LITERALLY walked out the door, did a roundabout right at the doorway, and came back into the room saying she talked to the doctor, acting as if though I was blind and didn't just see her do that! I know I'm at an eye doctor but my eyesight is nowhere close enough to being that bad! 90% of the staff should be fired, the quality of doctors here don't deserve to be besmirched by the god awful quality of staff you have to deal with. read more

His office is very clean, the surgery center in Stockton was also very clean and pleasant staff. I would and have recommended him and his office. The Manteca office is the worst doctor's office that I have ever dealt with. They refused to obtain insurance preauthorization and claim that it was not their responsibility even though they are the billing provider and are responsible for obtaining it. They make up their own unethical policies. Only when I showed up for the appointment did they tell me that preauthorization was not obtained and that they were not responsible for obtaining it. They are either too ignorant or plain lazy to obtain the preauthorization. The office staff (reception and billing) are not helpful, are argumentative, and don't care about helping new patients. They refuse to take cash or credit for an appointment even though their website says they do. They have an unethical policy regarding that too. I wish I had looked at the reviews before I scheduled an appointment with them because I would not have wasted time that could have been used to obtain an appointment sooner with another clinic. They are HORRIBLE and I will never go back to that clinic. Their poor customer service will be the demise of their business. read more

I am 17, and i called to make an appointment, specifying that i was still underage and if i needed a parent present. they said no, it should be fine. i asked to double check because there have been many times that i have been turned away at medical appointments even though i was told i could go alone, and they said she would need to come with me. my mother came with me to check me in and to give consent on her lunch break, and she was told she would need to be there for the second half of the exam even though she had given consent and it was a routine eye exam. receptionist wouldn't even give my mom a ballpark time so she could see if she could get someone to cover her. in what world does a 17 year old who's had dozens of eye exams before need her mother to be in the exam room with her. extremely unprofessional and inflexible- this is california, there are no laws to back up turning away a minor who has parental consent for a service. read more

Every person we dealt with was wonderful, we had a very short wait for our appointment. The people at the front desk were welcoming and friendly. Maggie, who did my husband's initial examination was courteous and efficient and friendly. Dr. Girn was wonderful and through in his examination. Julie did a great job helping my husband with his frames and ordering his glasses and patiently helped us figure out the best use of our insurance allowances. We will definitely be repeat patients. I have been on hold listening to how great the doctors are and trained at Stanford. Unfortunately, this means nothing if you have poor CUSTOMER SERVICE. I was on hold for over 28 mins. Time is GOLD... After finally picking up the phone, I was transferred to the Stockton office and was finally assisted by a Carol who provided me with excellent customer service. She took ownership of the problem and provided a solution. She redeemed this business, at least for the Stockton office. But Manteca branch is a 1 star! Clerks should be trained on telephone skills. 1st. And foremost, pick up the call, greet, then advise the caller that you are putting them on hold.... read more

A couple years ago I had a free eye exam from this place. I took it because I didn't have insurance to go see my regular eye doctor at the time and I needed new glasses. During the exam, the eye doctor kept talking about how I have astigmatism in my left eye. Sounded about right since my left eye had always been worse. Come time to write my prescription, he wrote one for both of my eyes being the same. On the drive home, I noticed and started questioning it. I went to Walmart and bought a pair of glasses. When I went to pick them up, I told the lady that my left eye looked blurry. She kept assuring me it's the prescription I gave her. I wore the glasses for over a year because they did help a little bit but after a while my eyes seemed to be getting worse. I finally had insurance recently to go back to my old eye doctor. He was confused as to why this place wrote me the same prescription for each eye AND wrote the prescription as 2x stronger than I needed.. ultimately putting a strain on my eyes for that year or more. UPDATE: The staff saw my review and I was contacted by Dr Choi. I don't believe he was employed there when I had my eye exam, but I'd like to mention that I really appreciate him calling me and wanting to hear my story of what happened. He thoroughly apologized and said he'd talk to his staff because they're always trying to better themselves. He also mentioned if there's anything he can help with that I can contact him. I'm all about customer service... the doctor and back office assistant were nice, but front office staff were rude and unwelcoming. After the appointment I wasn't even asked if I wanted to pick glasses out for my children. I asked if they offered kids glasses and she said yes, but still didn't offer to have us pick a pair... this has never happened before. I was so fed up witht he LACK of customer service, I had to to ask for my prescriptions to take my kids somewhere else. Although the doctors are great. The ladies in front and optical area are not. As we walked in we couldn't get a simple hello. Walked over to the clipboard and signed in as we do every appointment we had in the past there. When the eye exam was over we looked at frames, ordered a pair and was told they would be due in 2weeks. Well it's been over a month and we still haven't received the glasses. We called many times and keep getting different answers. The old staff seemed more professional and friendly. We will not be going back after our glasses come in if they ever do. I had given my insurance card to employees just so they can add some other insurance stating wrong info to me and Over billing me! I went to them when I first moved to Manteca. My appt was at 2:30. After a routine exam, I exited the office at 4:30. I didn't even pick out glasses. I went for my annual appt a couple of weeks ago. My appt was again at 2:30, and I didn't get called into a room until 3:10. After being left alone for eye dilation and other reasons unbeknownst to me, I finally got done at 4:40. I called today to cancel a follow- up appt, and I was immediately placed on hold. I finally had to hang up after being on hold for 17 mins. This lack of consideration for patients' time is unacceptable and unprofessional. Needless to say, I'll be looking for a new eye dr. read more

So this office is notoriously slow but I put up with it because of the excellent service that was provided to me by Dr Wu. I returned and was given a new Doctor who doesn't appear to be here anymore. I was literally waiting atound for 2+ hours in various stations. Super frustrating! So the icing on the cake on top of the 2+ hours and general lack of customer service. The "doctor" told me that I have something where I'm going blind and recommended that I see a retinal specialist for a diagnosis. I struggled for a month thinking that I will not see my 1 and 3 year old grow up, only to pay $100+ to see a specialist and told my eyes are fine (thank God)! On top of that my prescription is wrong, i purchased $300 of contacts and glasses for an invalid prescription and I'm having headaches because of her mistake. Thanks for the waste of time, money, scare of a lifetime and I recommend everyone in seek actual optometrist professionals, this is not the place! read more

They were great up until I spent almost $500 on glasses, now I'm waiting 15 business days for glasses I was told would be here in 7-10 business days. I don't care that it's Labor Day weekend, that doesn't mean you can close up two hours early to enjoy a longer weekend. I had cataract surgeries on the right eye by Dr. Edington. I have no insurance so I had to pay five thousand and my vision did not change. Dr. Edington said he forgot to take off a film coating from the lens and to take it off I have to pay three hundred I sa d no it was there fault. DON'T GO TO THIS PLACE. I have insurance now and went to CENTAL VALLEY EYE in Manteca. Dr. Stephen Lin said Dr. Edington put in the wrong lens. so Dr. Lin from central valley eye did cataract surgeries on my left eye and then laser the one Dr. Edington screwed up. Dr. Lin did a great job so if you need eye surgeries go to CENTRAL VALLEY EYES I don't even need glasses now my eyes are prefect. read more

Not sure why this place has bad reviews! They were all incredibly courteous, the wait wasnt terribly long, and the staff walked me through the process and explained everything from start to finish so I thoroughly understood what was going to happen during my exam and understood what my insurance covered. The ladies at the front desk made sure i got the most out of my benefits. Maggie was wonderful and made me feel incredibly welcome and informed me of everything that the doctor was going to do and just overall a great person to work with. She left a lasting impression on how great the rest of my appointment was going to go. When Dr. Girn came in, he immediately gave me the impression that this was going to be a fantastic experience. He is very knowledgable in his field and is GREAT with patient education. I left the office with some good recommendations for things i need for my new contacts and look forward to my follow up appointment. Don't let the negative reviews steer you away from this place! Outstanding experience with the doctors and staff at Central Valley Eye Medical Group. I had a problem with my eyelids following brain surgery. I could not have asked for a better doctor to perform the corrective surgery. Dr. Tittler was genuinely concerned about my well-being and called me the day after surgery to see how I was doing.
