I decide to test my luck here, and after giving Anthony a rundown of my problem he told me he could take my PC and get started on it. Fix My Gadget responded with a quote to repair my headphones for a flat $35. When I went to the location on 11/27 to drop off my headphones, the young guy took the headphones and charged me $35 for the repair and gave no indication of when they would be fixed just that they would call us. Later that evening I received a text message that they found the issue, parts will be ordered, and the headphones will be ready for pickup in a week . There was no communication of the cost of these parts, that they were in addition to the $35 I had already paid, or confirming if I wanted to continue with the repair knowing the new cost. They just ordered the parts and assumed I would pay for them. One week later, on 12/5 I hadn't heard from Fix My Gadget, so I texted. I got a response that the parts were arriving on 12/6 and by 12/7 the repair would be done. On 12/7 I hadn't heard back...again, so I texted. Fix My Gadget responded saying the parts will be delivered on 12/14. Another week later, on 12/14, I hadn't heard bak, so I texted....again. I got a response that the headphones were ready for pickup. When I arrived at the store, I tested the headphones and everything worked great. I'm guessing these were different headphones altogether, because they wouldn't pair with the devices they were previously paired with at originally. In addition, Fix My Gadget charged me an addition $62 for "parts" which they never communicated or confirmed I was willing to pay. Come to find out, the $35 I originally paid was a nonrefundable deposit as the person at the business explained to us their process, but it was the first time we heard it. Overall I paid almost $100 for my repairs that I was not expecting. The communication was most likely broken down due to the multiple ways we contacted the business where each representative probably assumed our first point of contact explained things, but we were unhappy with the information we got during the entire process. We were happy that Fix My Gadget was able to fix my headphones in the end. I think anyone who uses their services will need to ask more questions than we did and the experience will be better.

I requested a repair on a game console a while back. It was a 15 minute job, but required some equipment that I do not have. Labor was vastly overpriced (15 minute job, $10 for parts, $90 for labor), but it is understandable. They have to have a price floor, and the repair I needed done was short and specific. Overall, it turned out fine. The device has not had issues since, and none of my data was destroyed. Regardless, I recommend always making a backup of your data before consulting any repair company. 10/10 for my specific instance, but look out. If you are on a tight budget or do not know how to back up your data, I would perhaps practice extra discernment in your search.

When I returned, they said it might be the battery ($83 repair and they'd have to order it and could have it back in 7-10 days), but said it might be something to do with the screen assembly (or something like that), and that would be $178 and they had that in stock. I said fine, just get it working, as I had a surgery scheduled and needed a way to communicate with my support team. I gave them more time, and their assessment was that it wasn't that either - they said my phone showed no signs of life and I'd need to buy a new phone. But they didn't charge me the $178 after testing it to see if it would work. So, I went to Best Buy and chatted with GeekSquad for a second opinion - they told me UbreakIfix was now a mainstream repair shop, doing mainly warranty work for the major carriers, and anything beyond simple repairs wasn't their thing...and that I'd probably be able to get it fixed at a "mom&pop" shop. GeekSquad said they couldn't work on a phone as old as mine (5 years), and recommended a shop in Folsom that their customers had success with. I bought a new phone for $750 since I was already there, and was willing to risk forfeiting a $45 re-stocking fee to return it if I managed to get my phone working. I didn't go to the shop recommended by GeekSquad, but found Salmaan Phone Repair in Rocklin and he had my phone working in less than 10 minutes (I'll write a review for him, too). The issue was a bad FPC (Flexible Printed Circuit) cable - the cable that connects the charging port to the daughterboard. 2 stars for not being able to diagnose a basic power issue -1 star for telling me my phone would never work again +1 star for positive experience with the uBiF person that followed up with me when I complained about their non-refundable diagnostic fee when the diagnosis was 100% incorrect.

Dropped it off next day during my lunchtime and my phone was ready after work. They were able to clean and clear the lens and reseal the phone. The owner explained that my phone was drenched in water, and the previous repair person did not use a new seal, reused the old seal. Price was decent.
