    Marantz 2235B Stereophonic Receiver, CD Player, Dual Cassette Deck

    When I was a kid I owned a low-end Marantz receiver (it was stolen in a burglary). Bummer! I always wanted another one and finally got around to buying one a few years back. It's a circa 1975 Marantz 2235B, by no means top of the line, but it sounds great, is plenty loud for me, has great features, and I really love it. A few months ago I tried listening to a record (yes, vinyl) and when I powered up the Marantz receiver I smelled that horrible burnt electric odor. Lights were on, but there was no sound. I started looking for some place that could repair my vintage receiver, but at the time all I found were a couple of shops in the bay area. Then life intruded and the repair got put on the back burner. About a month ago and I started looking again for a vintage stereo repair shop and found Rainbow Electronics right down the street from where I live! I left them an email and they called me back the next day! Yes, they could repair my Marantz! Awesome! I brought it in and had a great conversation with the super-friendly technician. About a week passed, maybe more, and no one had contacted me about the status of the repair. I'm not shy, so I called (it might have been on Monday) and was told they hadn't even looked at it yet, but that they would bump it up to the front of the line and get it to me by the following Monday. I guess I must have made some sort of disappointed sound or something, because the lady I was speaking with said, "What, do you have something going on?" Actually, I did! I told her some friends were visiting from out-of-state and would be here on Thursday. She said she thought they had all the parts in stock needed to repair my unit and that they might be able to get it to me by then! I said it would be great if they could do that! Now it was Wednesday and I was wondering if I would have music when my friends visited, so I called Rainbow Electronics again, hoping the repair might be completed. The lady checked and said I could pick up the receiver that afternoon! I went in and got my newly repaired Marantz 2235B. They gave me a receipt that said it tested ok, along with a bag of parts that had been replaced. There were quite a few little electronic gizmos in that baggie (I have absolutely no idea what they are or what they do; see the picture, maybe you'll know). I took my receiver home and hooked it up. It worked perfectly! We had a great visit with my friends and listened to many records and CDs! I have been listening to music every day since it came back. It sounds so good! Really, I believe it sounds better than it did before it stopped working. Full disclosure: It wasn't cheap to have my Marantz fixed. But I knew when I bought a vintage stereo receiver that at some point it might need to be repaired and that it would probably cost some coin. So be it. I have a beautiful, fully functioning vintage Marantz that now works like a charm because Rainbow Electronics had the expertise to diagnose the problem and get it back in working order. Things cost what they cost and expert technicians who do the job correctly are always worth the price, IMHO. Besides, what's the alternative? I'm not tossing out my vintage receiver just because it requires repair. If you love your old electronic equipment but it needs fixing, Rainbow Electronics is the place to go. I'm a satisfied customer who is happy with the service provided by Rainbow Electronics and highly recommend them.

When I went to the location on 11/27 to drop off my headphones, the young guy took the headphones and charged me $35 for the repair and gave no indication of when they would be fixed just that they would call us. Later that evening I received a text message that they found the issue, parts will be ordered, and the headphones will be ready for pickup in a week . There was no communication of the cost of these parts, that they were in addition to the $35 I had already paid, or confirming if I wanted to continue with the repair knowing the new cost. They just ordered the parts and assumed I would pay for them. One week later, on 12/5 I hadn't heard from Fix My Gadget, so I texted. I got a response that the parts were arriving on 12/6 and by 12/7 the repair would be done. On 12/7 I hadn't heard back...again, so I texted. Fix My Gadget responded saying the parts will be delivered on 12/14. Another week later, on 12/14, I hadn't heard bak, so I texted....again. I got a response that the headphones were ready for pickup. When I arrived at the store, I tested the headphones and everything worked great. I'm guessing these were different headphones altogether, because they wouldn't pair with the devices they were previously paired with at originally. In addition, Fix My Gadget charged me an addition $62 for "parts" which they never communicated or confirmed I was willing to pay. Come to find out, the $35 I originally paid was a nonrefundable deposit as the person at the business explained to us their process, but it was the first time we heard it. Overall I paid almost $100 for my repairs that I was not expecting. The communication was most likely broken down due to the multiple ways we contacted the business where each representative probably assumed our first point of contact explained things, but we were unhappy with the information we got during the entire process. We were happy that Fix My Gadget was able to fix my headphones in the end. I think anyone who uses their services will need to ask more questions than we did and the experience will be better.

    I had my husband go in to get my phone diagnosed because the screen turned white and then turned…read moreblack and would not turn back on. First they tried one screen after 4 hours of my phone being in their office it was glitchy and did not work. They tried another screen that one also didn't work then they tried a 3rd screen that they did not state was $350. They had my husband in there for 4 1/2 hours and even an hour past closing time. He was arguing with the owner of the shop over the phone for those entire 4 hours trying to get a refund for the $130.66 and they finally agreed to refund it since we did not want the screen and they took it off and put my broken one back on. They ended up giving him $87.00 back and scammed $43.66 out of the money we paid. No this did not include the $35 deposit that you have to pay to get your phone diagnosed which you do not get refunded which is understandable. They then came to the conclusion that the battery is bad in my phone and needed to be replace and the owner of the store wanted another $35 to diagnose if my battery is actually bad and then however much more on top of that to replace the battery he said no and left at 8pm last night. He went back in today and the owner was refusing to answer the workers phone calls because they have to get verification that they can give cash back. I did the math on the markup price of the original $150 screen replacement that they still wanted to sell to me even though it was glitching and malfunctioning. I found the website they order from and they are charging a 74.43% markup on replacing the screen. DO NOT GO HERE UNLESS YOU WANT MONEY SCAMMED FROM YOU. I will be going back myself and getting my money back.

    My family's experience working with Farhad was hands down THE BEST experience we have ever had…read morehiring someone for home improvement work. Our project began when I came home to visit my mom and smelled gas: her old cooktop (and I mean 20+ years old) was leaking gas internally, and PG&E came around to shut the gas off. After discovering that all the standard-sized cooktops were either too big for her cabinets or too small for the existing opening, I finally got an idea to check IKEA and found that their european sizing would work perfectly. The problem was: how to install the cooktop? I used Yelp to send quotes out to many appliance servicing and repair companies and 4Wires was the first to respond. Based on my description of the issue alone, Farhad was confident he could help us with the install and asked if we might also send photos. I obliged and be provided a very reasonable quote for the work the same day. Farhad was very flexible about finding a date and time that worked for us. He arrived within the window he gave us and before entering attempted to put booties on his shoes before we insisted that wasn't necessary. We had the space prepped for him and had even purchased supplies he might need (like a flexible hose), but Farhad assured us that we could leave everything to him. As I mentioned, this project was for my mother, who is older and hard of hearing. Farhad explained everything he was going to do very clearly and was totally patient with my mom--something even I have difficulty managing sometimes! Before he made any cuts, he took careful measurements and drew exactly how the cooktop would sit. We discussed some challenges with the job, such as the placement of the pre-existing gas line, and Farhad gave recommendations and clear explanations, so we felt confident in his judgement. I could tell that he was passionate about his work and cared about the quality of the finish. At one point, my mom mentioned that it would probably be easier for him to cut just one side of the opening, but he insisted we should center the cooktop so it would sit properly under the hood and look more esthetically pleasing. When we expressed concerns about keeping the edges clean and asking if caulk would be necessary, he assured us that he had a tape that would secure the cooktop without causing damage during future removals or repairs like cutting caulk away would. I had to leave for work before the project really got underway, but when I spoke to my mom afterwards she gushed about the mastery of Farhad's skill. The cuts were precise and he didn't take out more of the countertop than was necessary. The placement of the gas line posed to be a logistical and safety concern, and so he moved it to be more accessible, saving us from having to call in a plumber to do the work. He worked neatly and efficiently: despite this being a rather complicated job, he was finished in a few hours. When I visited my mom's after work, I had to marvel at how beautifully the cooktop fit. Everything was in good working order as well, and my mom could start using the cooktop that night. She also mentioned to me that Farhad obliged her by looking at a few other projects in the house, including a light in the kitchen that wasn't working properly and another one in the closet. Farhad gave good advice about the light in the kitchen and even offered to come back and address the closet light the next time he was in town--truly above and beyond! Not only does Farhad do incredible work, he is also a decent and kind human being. If his interactions with my mom weren't enough, he candidly shared details about his family and the life they are building here in the US, and it felt good to support this very hardworking and honest man. Honestly, I think he doesn't charge enough for his expert work and service! In my mind, there is no one else I will ever call for any future appliance need. Farhad is knowledgeable, professional, honest and fair, prompt in his communication, and overall an amazing person. Please don't hesitate to hire him for your next project!
