This is a review of the California Guard Card educational provider- Valley Guard Training and its corresponding website to access educational lessons, guardboss.com. The first feature of the course that stood out to me compared to its competition, was that Valley Guard offered a more flexible solution in accomplishing the required in-person training component. The fact that Valley Guard is open 5 Days a Week from 9AM-6PM, Sundays 11AM-6PM is a huge benefit as most of the competition barely offers you a choice and just tells you which day they offer the in-class component. Valley Guard Training I felt also did a fantastic job in how they advertised the course and its requirements as well as their enrollment form. When I was shopping around, other competitors presented their courses and enrollment details rather difficult to understand and it came across to me as very cumbersome. Valley Guard made the process very easy to understand what you needed to sign up for as well as how you can complete the course training. Finally, one of the most important details I would like to acknowledge is the "Learning Management System" that Valley Guard Training uses was outstanding. Considering I have taken other online courses in my past, I can attest that their platform was easy to use and most importantly - engaging when playing the lessons out on the speaker. The person who is transcribing the entire course was fantastic and did not put you to sleep nor make you lose focus. I can tell you this is not always the case with every online course provider. So I give props to Valley Guard for really choosing a winning LMS platform. In closing, the staff at Valley Guard were all very helpful, professional and made the entire process of getting the forms and fingerprints sent out a breeze. Although this range certainly isn't local to me (I'm in Long Beach), this is a much better and reliable option than going to AKI/Security Training Center at The Firing Line range in Huntington Beach (because James' hours often change and they just say "c'mon down" and they would be closed). Check in, get your targets, ammo, firearm rental, your lane assignment and you're good to go. Folks are good people and the subject of why James does what he does is amusing, or we'll quip about current firearm legislation, Newsom or the Potato in Chief. Their fee schedule is clearly posted and pricing is dependent on how many calibers (silly CA BSIS nonsense) you're qualifying and is all-inclusive; other schools charge their fee but they you have to pay for the lane and ammo but these guys do not. The lot is small, only has about 8-10 spots but I usually park on the street bordering the airport. read more

Recommend for livescan fingerprinting!! Super professional and great customer service! Came for live scan finger printing for my new job. The last time I needed finger printing I went to a sketchy postal office that lost my finger prints / never sent them to my employer. So this time I looked up a place with great reviews. I wish I remembered the name of the gentleman who did my finger printing, because I'd give him a great review for his service! The process was fast, I was there maybe 10-15 minutes max. It's a bit pricey. The last time I got my guard card training they made watch the video but not all of it. Anyways the people are friendly and I was in the area. It's too far for me. Where do I begin I have no idea but one has to start somewhere. This is far the best Guard School/Shooting range out there if not one of the best!!! I am glad I found this Guard School from a close friend who had attended here. The rest is history as they say. There online classes are so informative and well organized. This course was GREAT and most of it I completed on my cell phone! I purchased the $99 all encompassing course to just knock it out. In 26 hours, I completed the 8 hour training, had my live scan done the next day, came home, completed the on line application with the state, and then 10 days later had the 32 hours of additional training completed after calling and learning that I could get a 'head start' on the required training after the guard card arrives. 2 days after the 32 hours were completed, my guard card arrived in the mail...14 days after I signed up! INCREDIBLE!! My inspiration to even get a guard card was event staffing (No guard card required...grandfathered in from the 2013 season) for Qualcomm Charger games through Elite. I asked one of my colleagues, a security guard, if getting a guard card was worth it and how long did it take to pay off the cost of getting the card. He said ONE DAY of working. He worked a 23 hour shift (I don't recommend it....) and made @$500. 6.5 hours at a Chargers foot ball game, travel time to downtown San Diego, then 16.5 hours at a Paul McCartney concert (prep, concert, and tear down). Not that I would work those kind of hours, but the fact it could be done, was enough to get me to start the process. $99 40 hour course through Valley Guard Training $67 Live Scan Fee $51 On line application fee $217 total For those on a budget, just start with the $32 8 hour required class, and when you can, get your live scan done (The price can vary....I paid $67), and then if you have to wait to save up $51 for the on line application, do what you gotta do. You will then have to pay $99 for the remaining 32 hours, but at least you can start training with a limited budget. Once you are a guard, there are so many jobs out there! Try to land "City of __________" contracts. The City of San Diego pays a 'living wage' of $14.72 (2014) when event staff and guards work at Qualcomm Stadium (Football and sometimes soccer games) and Petco Park (Padres baseball games). Last year, it was $14.52, so each year you can get a raise! If you have a clean record (Even if you don't, be prepared to explain minor infractions and wait up to 4 months....), get a guard card if you need more money! I was told 45 days MINIMUM to get my guard card. I had it in 14 DAYS! Oh, and the end of chapter exams give you hints to select the correct answer, so everyone passes! If $500 can be made in one day with $217 and 2 weeks waiting time, there is money waiting for you to be made and solve your financial worries!! AND, Valley Guard Training even has a "Job Hunter Bonuses" section, complete with tips and secrets to landing a good guard job AND resume samples (The formats look good too!). I have already referred one event staff worker to Valley Guard Training. There will be more referrals your way! read more

I am disappointed with how I was treated as a Valley Guard Training customer. I won't return to their business. I knew their business because I had previously completed a short online course. I went to the office for what was supposed to be in-person baton training. I prearranged it online and had been given the bare minimum of information (ie. Nothing) by Valley Guard Training . In fact I had to contact Valley Guard by email twice to confirm the course. At no time was I advised that I would need to provide my social security number. If I had I would have been happy to do so. On the social security card it literally states: "do not carry this card with you". I wasn't aware of the need to, nor had i, memorized the number. For this reason I couldn't provide my social security number. At no point did I receive an apology. Thankfully, I received a full refund but not before long discussion (argument) iniated by Valley Guard staff. At one point a senior staff member loudly and with unnecessarily rudeness told me to "MOVE". If this is how the instructors behave at work I despair for anyone unlucky enough to encounter one of their students in a high stress situation. Attending the baton training was for work purposes and I traveled at least an hour each way. In my opinion it is reasonable that Valley Guard inform students that their social security number is required to complete the course. Additionally some allowance could have been made such as asking me to return with my social security number or perhaps call a family member who could get it for me. This was not offered. read more
