If you're looking to write a comedy pilot script, I highly recommend Jackie Geary's pilot class…read more Besides being a successful comedic actor, Jackie's comedy writing has been optioned at Warner Brothers and TBS. I was thrilled to have an opportunity to learn from someone that currently works in the business. I went from only a log line to a 35 page sitcom script that I'm elated with in 2 months. It's an enormous amount of work, but if you're willing to put in the effort, Jackie will be there with you every step of the way. She teaches invaluable tools of comedy that help you develop a solid pitch document, outline and finally the script. I learned a ton in a short amount of time. The focus is always on how her teachings apply to your own writing and what you can do to make your ideas come to life. Along with Jackie, I was also lucky to have a fun, talented and supportive group of writers in the class to share the experience with along the way. I feel I now have the skills to write more sitcom pilots and infuse comedy in all my writing, if I so choose. I wouldn't have been able to say that with any confidence before this class. It's well worth the time and investment!!

I had taken acting classes in the past but these classes really unlocked how to work with material and perform for camera in a natural and real way. Not so much script analyzation with a partner and more actually getting in there and doing it. Less head stuff and more action. I loved the weeks I spent in these classes and made some amazing friends as well. Jamison and Jackie are geniuses in their craft and I will definitely be taking more classes with them in the future.

I really enjoyed how small and intimate the class sizes were. There was plenty of opportunities for individualized support, feedback, and redirection. I signed up for both the VO 1 & 2 classes. His classes were not only fun and incredibly informative but I also love the way he teaches. He delivers clear feedback in an encouraging way while also remaining open to your own interpretation of something. I like that he fosters your instinct as an artist and works with your point of view. It's a fine balance! When I learned he started an in-person Acting Technique class, I knew I had to give it a try. His VO classes are amazing so I figured this class would be too. I was right! I've been going for almost 6 months and I've learned so much. The class is so unique in that it touches upon several exercises and techniques to give you a well-rounded experience. There is scene work, yes, but that's just one of a number of things we work on. There are different improv exercises, character work assignments, mock-auditions, and scene work that is rehearsed and ultimately filmed. I can really see improvement when looking back at my earlier clips in class. I HIGHLY recommend checking out his classes, especially his Acting Technique class. David is a wonderful, encouraging teacher with a wealth of knowledge and the ability to give clear direction while fostering your own unique voice.

He had an extra week before he started school, and I was looking for a camp to keep him busy while I worked. Honestly, I had heard about the movie starring Jack Black, but had never seriously looked into enrolling my son at the school. I'm so glad they have a location in Burbank. Not only was everyone there professional musicians who also know how to teach, but the hours were great, and my son said the instruction was second to none. You get to choose your instrument (which they supply and have on site), they "rock" between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., and end the week with a performance of two classic rock songs. My son was on drums, and relished being able to tap his sticks over his head while shouting, "One, Two, Three, let's rock!" before jamming out on percussion. The kids did an amazing job on both songs, and the parents got to see what they had been learning all week. Bonus: after they complete the summer camp, they're eligible to enroll in Rock 101 to deepen their knowledge of their chosen instrument or learn another. I cannot say enough good about this place. We'll definitely be back next year.

Short answer: "No way, quite the opposite. Take this class!" Genuine heart of gold staff, and sans the salesy, pushy vibes. And they will invite you to sit in as a guest on a current Roots class, to judge for yourself whether this is what you're looking for. I'm now into week 7 of the Roots course myself and it's been incredibly rewarding from day 1. My writer's block is slowly being ironed out into something workable. I have tools to get me out of creative dead-ends or jump start a blank sheet of paper. To heartily misquote Dolores from Westworld, "I feel spaces opening up in of me, like a building with rooms I've never explored". The setting is intimate, a small sized class where you really get to know everyone. It's comfortable, even if you're an introvert like me. And you will find yourself unexpectedly making amazing new friends. Rob, the instructor, will make you feel coached and inspired. He gives you awesome material and substance but without it ever feeling dry. The exercises he sends you through teach you to access and flip your thinking process in useful ways.
