Enrolled last week and had my first zoom session. Its instructor, Melvin kept mispronouncing my legal name although I corrected him several times during the class. By the end of the class, everyone in the class learned my name and tried to correct him, he huffed and said I have 'fans' and literally said 'I'm just gonna call you Yang, that's you're name, right?' -it's not. Not even close. This guy didn't even try. I called to their office to correct things and its owner, ALSO kept mispronouncing my name and tried to explain his perspective. Their so-called excuse is that they're a family business started in 1970s and Melvin has been with them for more than 30 years-is that an excuse to butcher my name that I got from my parents? With no excuses or apologies? I don't think so. I insisted that they give me a refund and terminate my attendance, she said (I'm not joking) "actually, you owe us $70 (laughs) listen, I understand, my daughter in law is FILIPINO". The director was condescending and was clearly an ex drug addict. the ASI interview was done 30 minutes after I showed up on time, by a gentleman that told me he had not done such interviews in a long time. I payed 250$ and left. I followed up after 2 weeks, to find out they had done nothing on my behalf. They had me sign a release for ADOT and Sage Counseling out of Phoenix AZ. I asked them to contact the agency that has all the information on my case, and they refused and made a recommendation based on some 2 hour questionnaire from one of their clinicians. This place is a joke and they treat people terrible. They did the opposite of what I needed and I was treated horrible in the process. My California CNA skills exam was confirmed in the official TMU/Headmaster system, but days before the test the school emailed and told me it was cancelled and that it "would not take place" if I showed up. TMU told me my exam was still scheduled and even had to call the school to remind them they were required to test me. On test day there were other students testing at the site, even though the administrator had told me there was no exam and that exams would no longer be offered there, which left me feeling singled out and misled. Throughout the program, it often felt like some students received more support and opportunities than others, which gave me the impression of favoritism rather than equal treatment. The school promotes itself as professional and student‑focused, but the way my exam was handled did not feel fair or transparent. I recommend future students closely monitor their TMU account, save all confirmations, and be ready to advocate for themselves.
