Before you read my review, know that this is a tasting menu experience. This place is known for food that is HIGHLY labor intensive and that is what you are paying for. If you're looking for giant burritos and piles of homestyle dishes, this is not the place for you. If you're looking for multi-course experiences of highly refined food, be sure to visit. My husband and I opted for the 4 course tasting menu that is only served in the bar area. Each course was delicious and interesting. Because they are small we were worried that we wouldn't get enough to eat. At the end, we both felt as if we overate slightly. Our favorite tastes were the charred onion tart and the black bean soup. The texture of the soup was very light and smooth, but it had an intensely deep and rich taste. We also loved the lamb as our entree. We did not love the house made margarita. It was clarified so we wanted to try it, as we loved a clarified drink we had at Alinea, but this didn't quite have the intensity of flavor and the actual quantity of liquid was smaller than we were expecting. The best thing about this place is that it reminds us of our Guadalupe Valle tasting experiences which we LOVE! And the service was worthy of the Michelin star that they earned. My wife and I had a wonderful experience here. We arrived a little early allowing us to enjoy two cocktails prior to being seated. The service was amazing with both my wife and I having no idea how much water we drank as it seemed to never make it below half before being filled back up. Our courses were served with incredible flavors and a perfect amount of time in between the next set. I was a little worried by the chefs table experience thinking that I would feel anxious from being around others we don't know however, the "show" of watching everything being cooked in the kitchen and the prep before it leaves was a great experience. It don't seem like I was crowded or forced to talk to others but I was able to just enjoy my wife's company in a very secluded dining environment. No sounds from a busy restaurant of others eating and talking with table guests. It really was just my wife and I along with those perfecting their craft in the kitchen. Our first Michelin meal and certainly not our last. They have set our standard moving forward. Also randomly ran into chef R.A. The next day while shopping and he recognized us right away. Beautiful place and setting, even if it is a bit of a drive for us. Our friends booked months in advance and warned us all about the nonrefundable deposit, so we were absolutely not going to miss it. Got there early enough to find a metered parking spot, free after hours. It did take a minute to understand that while we can order so add-on appetizers like oysters, we really only have the option of vegetarian or regular chef's tasting menu for the rest of the food. Prices are the same for either option, but they do add a little more oomph for the vegetarian entree and that's why I went with it. I am not a vegetarian, just not a very big fan of shellfish. You can upgrade to wagyu (I took a bite of hubby's and can absolutely recommend this). Even with all the courses listed, there were surprises for sure. The flavors were all very fresh and citrusy, with a good dash of earthy with the mushroom courses. I was full by the end, but not stuffed. Some of the dishes had room for improvement. Like the bunelo tasted a little stale and I didn't really get why caviar was paired with it. Service was excellent. All the courses were neatly presented with succinct explanations. Our drinks arrived quickly as well and were tasty, exactly as our server described them when we asked for recommendations. I really appreciated the offer for us to go behind the scenes and meet the chefs. That was such a fun and unexpected way to end the night. Plus they gave us a tiny sorbet palate cleanser! In summary, I am glad I tried this place once, and would recommend to those who are nearby and want a fancy, modern take on Mexican food. However, I'm not sure if I'd drive an hour again to eat here myself, because the actual Valle de Guadalupe, its namesake, is only 2 hours away and offers so much more for a quarter of the price. read more

Excellent - We visited Valle for our 10th anniversary and they made our dinner experience special. The staff was very welcoming by making sure we felt the celebration. We were seated at a table right in front of a gorgeous fireplace and aside from the amazing food presentations, they provided us with a little bubbly for our celebratory toast and little extras here and there were very sweet touch. Chef, Roberto, came to congratulate us. To close the evening they brought out their candle cake with more bubbly to continue the celebration and the invitation to do a walkthrough of the kitchen with more little surprises. I have been waiting to go to Valle for awhile now and perhaps it is because of the great experiences I had in Valle De Guadalupe, just south of Tijuana where the food is inspired from. I have always appreciated Michelin star rated restaurants and felt that the cost is somewhat justified, even though it is high because of the work and craftsmanship involved in the whole experience. I thought the ambience and the service was great, but did find myself disappointed with the food. I found each of the dishes fairly interesting, but did find the flavors lacking a bit or in some cases not providing that satisfaction in each bit. For example, the Wagyu Carne Asada was recommended to eat as a taco and the flavors just didn't work and I found myself preferring to have the A5 Drunken Wagyu without anything else. Perhaps you don't need much more than a few spices when you get such a premium cut. All in all, I did not find myself enjoying this as much as I had hoped and probably would not return, but I seem to be in the minority. Again, it may be the expectations I had (Which makes the restaurants in Valle De Guadalupe all the more amazing), but the food just didn't not do it for me. Valle was definitely a lot more than expected! The ambiance is top notch, the service was absolutely off the chart! My husband and I drove an hour and a half to Valle and they did not dissapoint. You must have a reservation to be able to sit in the dining area, be prepared to pay about $150 to reserve your spot. We celebrated my bday there so after dinner they gave my husband and I sparkling wine and an extra dessert. I would say this each time either my husband or I would get up to the restroom, they were so attentive and brought our a clean new napkin. We ended the night with a walk through the kitchen. Such a gem especially in north county! The ambience is beautiful although hard to find the restaurant if you come from the east side. The service is impeccable. They have the timing down perfectly and you are never unattended. There are no lags in service and no unfilled glasses. The food is creative, delicious and beautiful hearkening to valle Guadalupe with twists. Not all are hits but the majority are and this is a lovely experience all around with a well deserved Michelin star. I wish it were easier to find the restaurant when entering from the front of the hotel. But other than that, this evening just flowed The food was delectable down to the amuses all with a Mexican flair/ homage that was just perfect. The starter of the charred onion with caviar was odd. onion is not something to start a nuanced meal--- such an earthy and opinionated vegetable was a miss. Even with caviar on top. But from here it was uphill. The ceviche courses were amazing with citrus and savory notes and I think the chef should open up a casual offshoot dedicated to ceviche. It was that amazing. Some of the best I've ever had. All else was just great but the only downfall was the burnt or roasted crema for dessert with the corn ice cream and caramel popcorn. The ice cream and caramel popcorn were perfection. But all the crema tasted like was burn. It dwarfed the stars of the ice cream and popcorn. We had a great tour of the kitchen, nothing like Gordon Ramsey kitchens of course, and the pastry chef served us an amazing mini sugar cone with nopale ? Sorbet topped with tahini. OMG!! She needs to open her own dessert place just based on that one! They gave us a champagne toast for my bday and everything was lovely in an amazing location. Def going back! We went here to celebrate Valentine's Day earlier this year. The restaurant was pretty empty, when we arrived, but filled up towards the end of the night. We had a table near the window, so you I was able to see a glimpse of the ocean. We opted for the 8 course tasting menu, but they also have a smaller tasting menu, or you can just order from the menu as well. I was told that they will only offer the 8 course menu in the future though. For drinks, I got the Santa Margarita and my hubby chose the Malinche cocktail. Mine was a mocktail, but it was the same price as cocktail! My drink was pretty and refreshing! Included in our tasting menu were: Cebolla, Choro, Not Cesar, Abulon, Codorniz, pescado, kobe, and malva for dessert. Every dish was beautifully presented, interesting, and tasted delicious. You would think that 8 courses is enough, but we decided to add some shrimp, oysters, and another cocktail. The vibe is nice and service was attentive. I think that it was a very lovely dinner, but for the price, you still leave hungry for more. They also added gratuity without telling as, so we ended up tipping 45%, but realized it before getting to the car. Overall, I still have a great time here. Let me start off by stating that the staff was 5 stars, absolutely fantastic service experience, ambiance and location are nice, right next door to the Top Gun house! On to the food experience. we opted for the 8-course tasting menu for our anniversary dinner ($165 per person). We also started with half dozen oysters ($40) and just water to drink (I guess not just water 2 bottles of water @ 12 per bottle). The oysters were fresh, and tasted good, I can easily say that they are not worth almost $7 bucks each. On to the tasting menu, maybe it was just my expectations where a bit too high as I envisioned loving each and every item! While they did have a few courses which were really good, excellent even, the majority of the tasting menu was just so-so. The tostada was the one which I enjoyed the most, it was fantastic, the caramelized onion tart however tasted burnt and left a bit of a lingering burnt taste in my mouth (I overheard another table state similar, so I think this is just how its prepared). I am a huge fan of gnocchi and was excited when we were presented with a corn version, however it tasted like a corn nut that had been soaked in water and then dried somewhat, a bit flavorless. The red clams were ok, the Pidgeon was very salty, the "fish" course also was extremely salty. The Wagyu was cooked very well, however the overabundance on this of a mole seemed to detract from the course rather than add to it, several of the courses had a mole present. The surprise dessert was amazing looking as it looked like a candle, it looked better than it tasted but was not bad and appreciated. The dessert itself a lava cake, gave off a very matcha forward and a bit overpowered taste compared to the ice cream it was served with. At the end, when we were given the bill, we were told that there was a 20% service charge added to the bill. When I opened the bill, there was a statement that read something along the lines of a 20% service charge has been included to your bill to help provide all staff a living wage, then it stated that while gratuity is not required, it is appreciated. While I was extremely happy with the service and have no issues leaving 20%+ for a tip, the wording of this service charge left me feeling bad for several days after my meal here. I did leave additional cash, but when I left, the wording kept sticking with me "Service Charge" ...did I just leave a terrible tip for outstanding service because the "Service Charge" is not a tip? If it had stated "Gratuity Included" that would have sat right with me, and I would have felt ok with the experience, even leaving additional "Gratuity" for the excellent service. Wording counts. Service Charge sounds TERRIBLE, that makes me always want to state, just raise the price of the meal/courses. Anyhow my 2 cents, and yes it makes me still feel bad... today several weeks later. read more

I've been eyeing Valle for a while and finally decided to try it out, riding my bicycle nearly 60 miles from Huntington Beach for an early-bird sitting at 5pm on a Tuesday. Excellent from start to finish, with attention to detail as expected atva place like this. Each dish was complimentary of the next and reflective of the last. The mixologist at the bar served up some distinct libations while the pastry chef, likewise, was on point. After my meal, I even had the opportunity to tour the kitchen and meet the chef (whaaa?!), an honor, given the culinary delights I just experienced! read more

The head chef and owner of Valle told me and my lovely wife that we are always welcome in his restaurant - he gave us a standing invite with his business card. We attended the restaurant when it first opened - before it became a Michelin one. We also attended afterwards. Because we eat at restaurants at least three or four times out of the week, we have not been back to the restaurant in a year. Tonight, we decided to walk into Valla and attempted to use the standing invite from the owner. The problem is the manager and hostess would not inform the chef that my wife and I were trying to walk into the restaurant. I will say it is a rainy night, so I am dressed in the appropriate clothes for the weather. The manager said we are at full capacity. My wife and I have been to the restaurant multiple times including several visits to the bar - it has never been at full capacity during this time of the year. Without the invite from the chef himself, we would've never attempted to walk into the restaurant. The problem I have with the entire situation, which is the reason I don't think we will be attending again in the future is they would not even attempt reach out to the chef. I carry two wallets - one for business - one personal. Tonight, I had my personal wallet - his card is in my business wallet with all the other thick heavy business cards. As a matter of fact, the last time that we attended, I could not enjoy my meal because I kept receiving important business calls. I will end by saying if you have a business card from the owner it does not appear to carry much value - at least not with his employees. TCaGB everyone! read more

Burger at the bar ..$20 plus $8 service charge and tax!! I was anxious to try this Michelin star restaurant, and since I did not want to pay $200 per person for their tasting menu, I thought a good cheeseburger says a lot about a restaurant. Well, this burger said to me "we've had better at In and Out!". The burger was small, came with a small piece of pickle on top and I had to ask for ketchup as it was dry. The restaurant did not have any ketchup (because the burger does not even come with fries) so I had to add some mayo. My friend and I were VERY disappointed, and when the bill came, there was an $8 service charge added. So our two burgers, with a tip, came to $62!!! Now if it has the best burger I ever had, I might have been ok with it, as the servers and staff were excellent, and the view of the pier was lovely. But we both said we won't be back. What a shame. Such an opportunity to offer regular people at least a good burger. read more

It was an absolutely amazing experience that brought back so many memories of my father's cooking in new and interesting ways throughout the dinner. I can not say enough about our experience and we hope to be regulars for years to come. As a quick note: For some of the negative reviews you will read here, just note: this is a fine dinning restaurant and a strict cancellation policy is standard. A quick look at Addison and you will see the same policy as the amount of time, attention, and quality that is brought into every diners experience is evident the moment you walk into Valle. I hate starting with such a negative tone but reading through some of the negative reviews just blows my mind. First of all, the service was absolutely impeccable. From the moment we walked in until the moment we left, it felt like we were guests in this family's home. Every person knew our names, that we were celebrating our 15th anniversary, and took more that a passing moment to make us feel truly at home. And during our dinner, it truly was a ballet that every member was a part of in how the food was presented to us, the clearing and laying of new place settings, and anticipating our every move throughout the service. We never felt rushed, we never felt a nuisance, and they answered any question we had about the food as each plate came across. A quick tour of the kitchen and you can tell the level of care and creation that go into each dish. We also had a chance to meet and talk with the chef and look forward to seeing them all again soon. And that brings us to the food, and it brought smiles across our faces throughout the evening. This is using Mexican ingredients and using them in various unexpected ways to create tastes and flavor profiles that can hit on memories or create new ones after each plate. This also means if you don't like corn, might not be a spot for you. If you are unwilling to try mole, might not be the right fit. But if you are willing to trust the chef here and try every dish as intended, you will not be disappointed. From the fish taco amuse bouche to the mole onion tart, to the black cod, and finishing with the corn ash macaron, every dish was excellent and left us wanting to try the next dish. I loved every bite and felt very sad that I could not finish our lamb barbacoa as we were too full and still had 3 desert dishes left to go! Probably one of the best Michelin star places we've been to. It's Mexican Baja inspired and my husband and I have traveled all over Mexico so we were excited to try it. There's bar seating in front that I'm assuming is more walk in. You won't get the dining experience as the regular seating area but it's a great choice if you want some drinks and more casual food. We did the 8 course tasting menu and they were not kidding when they said you'll leave stuffed. They gave a lot of extra goodies that I forgot to take photos of and even a tour of the kitchen at the end. I think my favorite course had to be the barbacoa and the play of fish tacos. Drinks were also unique and interesting. My favorite having to be the Milpa which was a refreshening drink made with corn and cilantro. It was super interesting and I enjoyed it a lot. Overall I'd absolutely do another date night here especially if they rotate the menu every so often. I'm not sure how this place got a Michelin star. Don't get me wrong, the service was absolutely amazing and super top notch. However, the food, while good, is not what I would consider to be Michelin level. The presentation was lovely but the flavors were not much different from any other Hispanic restaurant. We came here to celebrate a bday within the family. It was my first time in Oceanside and Valle Restaurant was a new and interesting experience. Our party came around 7pm and the man, who's name I remember but don't want to misspell-- mentioned parties usually take around 3 hours to finish..depending on how fast people eat and their pace. We left the restaurant around 10:30pm- 11 pm. The man that attended our group was kind and well informed about each dish. The other attendants were sharp with detail and very respectful and kind. Although since this all was so new to me, sometimes I felt under pressure -- like I was back in school presenting in class. When in reality I was just eating. We chose the 8 course meal, rounded up it was $200 per person. For me, I didn't like several of the dishes. It was too creative for me. But others in my party devoured it. The ones that stood out to me were the octopus ceviche, some of the purées, quail leg with mole sauce, not Caesar salad, and the filet mignon. The mole sauce they served didn't have a pungent and robust flavor that other mole sauces had. It tasted more like bbq sauce in my opinion. The dessert was cool because it was like a lava cake, but the flavor was unique and not sweet. There were a few times I wished I could have poured my own water because I definitely needed more water to get through some of the plates. Such as the burnt onion tarte, the crab cake cracker, and any dish that had mushroom in it. Like I said we finished around 11pm which is wild because on the website apparently they close at 9pm! They did not rush us at all despite this. Before the lava cake serving they gave the us an interactive "candle" that was actually cake! It was lemon cake and pretty tasty. They even gave us a few extra dessert pieces-- some brittle and candy rolled in sugar. And then gave plates for our cake that we brought. My wife and I had a phenomenal meal here! We went for a dual celebration: our anniversary and my birthday. We opted for the El Sillon Bar Experience and it was a great experience! It's a four course menu plus botanas (snacks --- the best "snacks" I've ever had); petit fours; and the delicious bread made from the chef's grandmother's recipe with fermented garlic butter. The dishes were: cebolla (charred onion tarte with kilo caviar select, black totopo); langosta (local spiny lobster with sourdough tortilla and chilpachole); barbacoa (braised Niman Ranch lamb, avocado leaves, adobo, corn tortilla); and tascalate (mamey leche quemada ice cream). All were amazing! I can't pick a favorite they were all so good. We also had an incredible cocktail: the Polanco. Mole infused whisky, ancho chile liqueur, sweet vermouth, Abuelita, mole bitters. Never had a drink like it before. Incredible! The cuisine is from the Valle de Guadalupe, Mexico's Napa Valley in north Baja. My wife and I have dined at Pujol, Quintonil, and Rosetta in Mexico City and the food at Valle is definitely at the same very high level. The service was wonderful: attentive, friendly, helpful. They didn't miss a beat. The ambiance was just right: stylish yet relaxed. The meal was so good on so many levels I plan to come back for future celebrations. What a truly phenomenal experience! There's both a privilege and pride in dining at Valle, which celebrates Mexican cuisine and is one of the few restaurants that has received a Michelin star for doing so. The restaurant itself, both welcoming and elegant, sits across from the Oceanside pier and offers a stunning view. While the inside is beautiful, the sunset view from any patio table is breathtaking! We tried the summer tasting menu, which was well-paced, thoughtfully designed and soo delicious. There are also several nice additions to the experience that came as a welcome surprise - including a tour of the kitchen. Would definitely recommend the cocktails and the Kobe beef add on. The service was wonderful. Complimentary valet is available so you don't have to fight for street parking. While you will pay a pretty penny, this Michelin is well earned! read more

We traveled from Seattle with plans to celebrate my husband's birthday at your Michelin-starred restaurant. To mark the occasion, I reserved the Chef's Table and placed a $1,000 deposit, which I was aware was non-refundable. Tragically, just days before our reservation, my husband suffered a heart attack, was hospitalized and scheduled for surgery. From the hospital, I called three days prior to our scheduled dinner to explain the situation. I made it clear that I understood the stated policy, but given these unforeseen and serious circumstances, I respectfully requested the opportunity to reschedule for a later date. The manager responded by voicemail, stating that rescheduling was not possible for the Chef's Table but that "another option" could be offered. After multiple attempts to return the call, I finally reached him, only to be informed that the only alternative was to transfer the reservation to another party. To suggest that, under such circumstances, our sole option was to give away a celebratory dinner we had carefully planned and prepaid was deeply disappointing and, frankly, disheartening. In light of the extraordinary medical emergency we faced, I believe a more reasonable accommodation would be to allow us to rebook the Chef's Table or, at a minimum, rebook with a normal reservation and credit for the $1000 deposit. Extending this courtesy would reflect both compassion and the high standard of service expected from a restaurant of your caliber. read more

Four course experience. Excellent customer service, and the food was very tasteful. Beautiful view of the beach/ocean. Expensive! But somewhat worth it if you enjoy seafood. If you do not like seafood, this is probably not the best option for you. I added the wine pairing with my meals- the wine options were great and some created by the chef. Portions were small, but expected at restaurants like this. Surprisingly, we did get full. We went for our anniversary and received the candle cake, it was a such a great gesture! We were also able to meet the chef and take a look at the kitchen, that was a unique experience. Definitely would go again! Buñuelo de Maiz: crème fraiche, tepache, supreme sterling caviar...easily one of the best bites I've ever had, a perfect balance of sweet and salty on top of crisp maize. Betabel: beetroot kvass, Humboldt Fog, rosemary, shiso...a beautiful rose made out of beets, with a natural sweetness from the beets prepared wonderfully. Aguachile: ikejime rockfish, achiate, sikil pak...for a red aguachile the fish stole the show, the fish was dry aged and had a complex depth. Chancla de Callo: sea scallop, molcajete salsa, avocado, asiente...sweet and salty cured scallops with a punch of earthiness from the molcajete and rich maize Bread service: black bean bread with black garlic and sea salt butter, moist and flavorful with wonderfully light whipped butter Taco de Langosta: grilled spiny lobster, fideo seco, pipian roja, avocado, cotija...hands down the BEST taco I've ever had, the langoustine was the most buttery lobster I've ever tasted and despite the multitude of flavors wrapped up in a perfect corn tortilla, the taco was so well balanced you could taste every single element Siete Mares: aged yellowtail, mussel, clam, octopus, roasted fennel...some of the freshest seafood in a fennel broth to cut down on any fishiness. Conejo: rabbit, chichilo negro, roasted poblano purée, fried squash blossoms...perfectly cooked rabbit with a chichilo negro that had been cooked for 48 hours, a rich and meaty main To pair with the meal, we had a collection of wines that worked in melody with the food we had. The sommelier was very attentive and explained the notes/origin of all the wines we tasted. The cherry on top was that a great variety of the wines were grown in the chefs vineyard and tasted mature and multi faceted. Additionally, traditionally sweet wines like rose and Chardonnay were crisp and drier than usual which was a delightful surprise. After our meal, we also had the pleasure of visiting the kitchen where we met the chef and had a delightful margarita sorbet while seeing how they age the rockfish they use in their aguachile. Wow talk about an incredible but expensive experience. If you are looking to splurge on an incredible and very memorable meal then this spot is for you. If you really want to splurge definitely add the wine pairing as well but that part is optional. This is an 8 course meal that is perfectly portioned out. I was so worried I would be too full by the end but it was really a great meal. The service is probably the best service at a restaurant I have ever had I was amazed. This restaurant is within a hotel but the views and ambiance are stunning. My favorite dish was the third course I could have ate multiple of those it was so good and absolutely stunning!! We had a lovely experience at Valle as a party of four celebrating multiple milestones and a birthday -- the staff was very friendly and gave us a tour of the kitchen at the end, food was well plated, ambiance was nice but not too stuffy... but unfortunately the food itself was the least memorable part of all. The dishes were well composed with the potential to be excellent but fell short, either lacking in flavor or complexity, something we'd expect at a minimum for a restaurant earning a Michelin. The service was also not in sync, with one course being served while one member of our party was in the restroom. Our favorite dish was the halibut in beurre blanc, which was beautifully cooked. We were not fans of the caramelized onion tart which was too burnt and just tasted like ash. However, we appreciated the enthusiasm of our server and the additional touches of complimentary dessert, champagne, and a tour of the kitchen at the end that heightened our celebration of our special occasions. read more

What an amazing experience at Valle!! I am proud to say we dined here before they were a Michelin starred restaurant but knew they were destined for greatness!! Yes it's taken me over a year to finally write a review but every moment and bite of our meal still sits vibrantly in my memory. From the moment we were greeted we felt extremely welcomed and comfortable/relaxed, the pace of the meal through out the evening was just right and the service was thoughtful every step of the way. All of our choices were delicious when it came to dinner, the crab tostada, the ceviche verde was so vibrant and crisp with each bite. The pulpo was outstanding as was the perfectly layered lobster taco, incredible actually. The Waygu was so good with the its notes of coffee and almost a mole like flavor, so tender. We were also treated to so lovely bites along the way to open up our palates, the carrot soup shot was incredible!!! For dessert we had so much fun with the beautiful green apple manzana, cracking the sugar, ahhh YUM! Also were treated to some lovely home made dulces, such sweet and intense little bites of flavor. Lastly as we left, we had the opportunity to go into the kitchen and so thank you to the amazing staff, meet the Chef and had one little last finishing bite. So much thought and detail goes into every component of every dish at Valle, embracing the best of the season, the aquaculture, the best of the Valle and San Diego combined. I am a little biased I have dined at Malva several times, so you could say I am fan! Yikes. I'm truly shocked at giving my first "1 star" Yelp review. In all of my fine dining and not-so-fine dining have I ever come across such a vitriolic response when providing civilized feedback. The defensiveness in the chef's public response is only half the story. To receive a direct message from the chef with a "get over it" has me at a loss for words. It's folks like these that taint the Michelin branding and it's really such a shame. As I mentioned in my previous review, my husband and I took the time to write the restaurant directly with this feedback, but we never received an acknowledgment if they've received it or not. While I am glad to now hear they did in fact receive it, this means they 1.) read it 2.) promptly threw it out, based on the owner's response. I can understand how as a business owner, you perhaps feel the need to defend your employees. And again, we pass on our praises to our server Michael. However, the issue was the manager on duty, James Spencer, would only speak and make eye contact with my husband, even when I would address James directly. The irony of disregarding the feedback of being disregarded. Now there is this direct message showing how the chef also treats his customers, as they believe feedback becomes irrelevant due to time. Had we received a timely response in the first place, this would have continued to be handled privately. Hire more Michael's and train James'. Absolutely do not recommend. read more

We love going to Michelin star restaurants to enjoy the inventive cuisine and impeccable service, so for our Anniversary, we planned months in advance to go to Valle and have been looking forward to it. We had to pre-select and pre-pay for the Sample Tasting Menu at booking. We decided on the Global wine pairing to accompany our meal and upgraded to a Kobe beef course (for $60 extra per person). The Tasting Menu consisted of 9 courses, and it was a culinary delight. The Chef married the flavors of familiar Mexican cuisine with molecular gastronomy, so there were gelatin spheres, foams, etc. Each dish was beautifully presented, but one dish was a little off-putting (burnt onion with caviar, as the burnt taste overpowered the caviar). However, at the middle of the tasting menu, things turned sour. We were sat before the party at the booth next to us, so we started our tasting menu before they did. After the 4th course, we were waiting for 5th course to arrive, but it never did. The party next to us received their course, finished their course, and were even given a hot towel to wipe their hands. Our waiter arrived to present the wine for our next course, but we didn't even receive our 5th course yet. The waiter quickly rectified, but it was apparent that it threw off their timing in their service/ in the kitchen. We were given the "missed" course without much explanation what we were eating, but afterwards, I had to ask for the hot towel as that was forgotten as well. We decided to complain to the General Manager (James Spencer) as we were consistently forgotten. The party next to us was already a couple courses ahead of us by that time. Mr. Spencer was apologetic and told us that he would personally ensure that things were corrected immediately. But again, another course was dropped off without barely any explanation, until the waiter for the booth next to us noticed that and asked if anyone described the dish to us. We said "no!". He then helped explain what we were eating and how the dish was prepared. After that incident, the service greatly improved, and the courses were more timely. Mr. Spencer later added "extras" to make up for the misstep. They gave us additional desserts, including a cake shaped like a candle for our Anniversary and some mini cookies and macarons, and he even reduced our bill. We were also given a private tour of the kitchen following our meal. We appreciate his attempts to remedy the situation, but we wished it did not occur in the first place, especially on our Anniversary and at a Michelin star restaurant with a hefty price tag (over $800 for 2 people, after courtesy reduction). read more

EL QUE ES PERICO DONDE QUIERA ES VERDE ("A Good Rooster Can Crow Anywhere") Being bilingual is to be able to seamlessly transition between cultures and languages. As a bonus, by ordering in the native language of an ethnic restaurant, you can flex your worldly knowledge to everyone within hearing distance. Spanish is the second most widely spoken language after Chinese. It is a phonetic language, so not difficult to master. But it'll take more than 3 seasons of Narcos to learn the intricacies-- so don't be that cringey 'merican and use these tips: The same exact word can have an entirely different meaning depending on context. For example "perico" is a bird, or a drug, also a coffee, and also some eggs with tomato and onion. El tiempo means the time, or the weather. Fresa is a strawberry, but also means a conceited Mexican. Puente is a bridge, but can be the word for a long weekend. Chucho can be a dog, or a joint, an unreliable person, or a clever person. The letter ñ is pronounced like the "ny" in "canyon": as in mañana. But whether you use an "ñ" or an "n" changes the meaning of a word drastically, for example: año is a year... but ano means anus. In summary, if you have an upcoming puente, channel your inner Fresa and roll up a chucho with your main chucho before dinner here at the playa. Tiempo permitting, savor a glass of vino de diez años. *DO NOT get the vino de diez anos! Pro tip: This is Valle de Guadalupe chef Roberto Alcocer's first stateside restaurant. My husband took me to Valle to celebrate my bday and we were totally blown away by the sumptuous 8 course meal! The service was excellent with each gourmet serving described well and the plating, a work of art. And then the extra dessert for my bday was a wonderful surprise, an edible candle plus, macarons & chocolates too. The visit to the kitchen was so enjoyable with Chef Roberto giving me a last morsel of a miniature cactus ice cream cone! Incredible experience! I had some of the best food I've ever tasted in my life here. The Kobe beef, the butter with black garlic and bread, and the lava cake were absolutely out of this world. The whimsical (without being pretentious) approach that the chef takes to each dish truly makes the tasting a delightful journey through his finely-tuned culinary perspective. The education the wait staff provides along the way about the ingredients is enlightening as well. Before dinner, we had cocktails and a few items off of the bar menu, which were also top notch. The service was beyond. Everything we needed was anticipated either immediately or before we even knew we needed it. The hostess greeted us warmly and we felt both comfortable and welcomed upon arrival. The bar tender and wait staff were professional, friendly and 100% on the ball without being stuffy or disingenuous, which allowed us to fully relax and enjoy our time. Finally, the chef was gracious enough to not only come by to check in with us as we ate but also offer us a kitchen tour and a small, refreshing dessert after our meal. During the kitchen tour, it was inspiring to see the chefs and sous chefs working with the level of enthusiasm and resolve you expect from trained, serious professionals. Even within this atmosphere, one of them took a moment to say hello and thank us for coming in. What a pleasure our experience was due to the service we received! Take everything I've just said and imagine it in a lustrous and elegant setting directly adjacent to the Pacific Ocean, and you can begin to see what to expect when you come to Valle. This chef and his staff are really helping to reimagine fine dining in the best way possible.
