Hands down, my favorite Thai restaurant in the neighborhood (and HK is known for Thai food). There are so many items to choose from, so we try to get different dishes when we visit--the visual aids in the menu help to make the difficult decision. Recently, we had the pak mor cashew as the appetizer - it was simple yet delicious. Sai oua, lemongrass pork sausage, leaving me wanting more. The three of us shared miang salmon - a dish where you use lettuce to wrap crispy salmon bits. We love how all the dishes were authentic and felt homey. We got banana blossom as appetizer (which doesn't have banana), pad pak, and tom cloeng jay. The appetizer reminds me a bit of fried chicken, the tom cloeng jay was like a hot and sour soup, and the pad pak just delivers the way an authentic Thai food stall would for street food. I really appreciated that they kept my tom cloeng jay heated with a small burner bowl underneath but watch out for the heat conduction of the bowl/ladle. The space is an intimate one. We made reservations for it easily the day prior for a Saturday lunch date. Whether food is good or not, when one of you gets your entree and then it takes 30 minutes (no exaggeration) for your companion to get his entree, which in this case was SOUP, and you have already asked three times and each time, the person you ask says they're checking on it and then never gives you an answer after that, well, the mood and the meal is ruined. It's not like this is a huge restaurant. There's maybe 10 tables. It's not like they were packed. Only half of the tables were occupied when we arrived. It's not like they are new or inexperienced. They've been around for years. It's not like there was any justification for this. But more over, to not say anything, when it's clear that you are waiting for an answer as to where your SOUP entree is for your date and your meal is now cold, it's just ridiculous, especially since there were also three or four people working the floor of a 10 table restaurant. In that SAME 30 minutes we waited for my husband to get his SOUP on Valentine's Day (when they were not busy), the woman at the two top next two us, who ordered a small appetizer, also sat there unattended for 30 minutes waiting for her four piece dumpling. Did I mention they originally didn't want to seat my husband in the nearly empty restaurant because I was five feet outside locking up our scooters, a visual they could see from the large glass doors and picture glass window that faces right outside to where I was and at which they sat him? My friend and I checked out the Restaurant Row of Manhattan and was craving Thai food, so we made reservations (to be safe - there were plenty of reservations around 7:30pm prime time) to dine here. It was a good call as there were only 2 tables left that were allocated to reservations only - otherwise you will probably be seated at the bar facing the wall instead of the table (which can be a bit tight as the restaurant layout is a small hallway). We tried the duck tamarind noodles and miang salmon, and both were $26, around NYC restaurant prices. Duck tamarind noodles were good - the duck is quite juicy and the noodles were cooked well. It was a bit sweet but also flavorful at the same time. The miang salmon was excellent as well - they are seared and fried, bringing out the salmon flavor. You add it to the lettuce, with a bunch of ingredients like rice noodles, cashew, lime, ginger, red onions, and spicy chili lime sauce that brings out the flavors of the dish. I really enjoyed this dish a lot as it was seasoned well and also very refreshing - although spicy, the lime cools down the effect. Service was good as water refills are consistent. Don't forget to check in on Yelp for a free Thai iced tea, and it seems like there are no restrictions as both my friend and I checked in and we each got a free Thai iced tea which was solid, albeit on the sweeter side a lot of ice (though I can't really complain as it's free). read more

This was a little hallway-esque, small, hole in the wall-ish, vertical place with a big heart. My friends and I made a reservation for 6pm; it wasn't too busy when we got in, but it definitely filled up by the time we left at around 7pm. The thing that is most noticeable about this place is the service. We were tended to so so extremely kindly, from being given water when waiting for our entire party to arrive, to being given both a physical menu along with the QR code on the table, to the constant water refills even when they left a bottle of water on the table. There was not a single point where I poured my own water because a server was always there to help me. The food came out insanely fast, both the appetizer we got and the mains. It was genuinely just plain impressive how quickly and sincerely they worked. A small note is that their menu is super intimidating. The font is difficult to read and there are a lot of words. I opened the paper menu and my eyes could not zero in on anything that was on it. The QR code leads you to the electronic version of the paper menu, so it was still overwhelming, but I was able to zoom in on the text to make it easier to focus on each section. Food wise, I thought it was standard. Nothing to call home about, but certainly nothing to complain about. The shrimps were fried with crunchy noodles and they were pretty much exactly how you'd think they tasted. I love when fried rice is served in a bowl, which this was, and the portion was big and filling. I thought there could have been slightly more seasoning on the rice just to add a bit more flavor, but at the end of the day it was totally fine. At the very end, we were offered free thai iced teas to go in exchange for a review, but it was totally on the honor system. They didn't ask us to review right then and there. I was going to review anyway, and I love a thai iced tea (but not to worry, y'all know I keep it real). It was honestly just really kind of them to offer us a free drink. Even though they asked, we could have easily not written a review, so in my head I just see it as generous management, and I'm so grateful to have had such a great experience here overall! Came here on a Tuesday evening for a pre-show dinner. The Ambiance Valla Table is super cute. With dark walls and nice light fixtures it's a nice spot for an intimate dinner. They put teddy bears in the empty seats and I thought that was a bit cute. The restaurant itself is a bit narrow which makes it a little annoying if you're seated by the door as people / delivery come and go. Also there's a terrible draft. Most people were wearing their coats inside. While the decor was cute and instagramable for such a small restaurant they have HUGE menus. It made looking at the menus a bit uncomfortable. As for the food, We ordered the sausage app and fried tofu to start. The sausage was great. The tofu was good but not special. Our main courses were delicious. I had the khao soi and my husband had the Panang curry. Both were spicy, served hot and flavorful. One thing to note, they do not have a liquor license. But that's not a deal breaker.
