Valhalla has a great selection of beers. They're priced toward the higher side of life, but I appreciate the non-pretentiousness. Furthermore, the garden feel of benches and picnic tables is unique. Excellent beer bar that feels equal parts Williamsburg, Prospect Heights, and LES. Our large group was seated almost immediately (this place was Cinco de Mayo-proof). The brews were unique and plentiful, with that rare balance of Western European and American picks. Our waiter looked like a skate boarder but did his job well enough. They even had landjäger (German beef jerky). Valhalla seems to attract the younger set, if you're into that. It's comfy and a good place to while away some hours, for sure. read more

Pretty much the best name for a beer bar in NYC. Named after the Viking's version of heaven, Valhalla lives up to it's name assuming that the Vikings loved beer (think so). There's a whole lot of wood paneling, a good amount of tables, and a TON of people. Seriously, I've never been here where it isn't at least close to packing out. I'd come a lot more often if there was just a bit more space. Bartenders are good but service to tables isn't great, especially given that the beer sits for awhile before it's brought to you. Oh well, such is life. The beer list is good but mostly the usual suspects of craft beer. Think Bell's, Dogfish Head, Lagunitas, etc. That's not bad but it's just that those beers are easy to find now. Only occasionally will they get in anything rarish and when they do it doesn't last long. I do like that they get stuff from Newburgh from time to time, but again very occasional. What I normally do now is just run in to see their list, and then stay if there's something worth it. If you need a beer bar this is the best nearby, but overall I prefer to opt for BarBacon nowadays. read more

The coolest new fact that I've recently discovered is that New York has amazing craft beers. Oh and that apparently I like IPAs. Such a mind blowing fact for this stout loving girl! Enter Valhalla. Valhalla is almost always busy on weekend nights, and is a no frills spot, with plenty of space, loud music, and relatively cheap booze. They have a cheap appetizer / late night menu as well. Valhalla also has a huge deer list. I don't drink beer, but my buddies were pumped and ordered some weird stuff that I have never heard of - hey, as long as they are happy, I am happy. Love this place! Always my go to bar when I'm in the area. The bartenders are super friendly and proactive. Happy hour cuts sort of short at 6pm M-F and they have minimal draft options to choose from for it, but the bar scene and atmosphere makes up for it. They also have a thing called "angry hours" that's a steal from 1am-4am so you can get a good deal if you're out late here. Their prices are a little bit higher than some of the bars surrounding them, but they're also not a dive bar so that's the price you pay for a quality bar and service which is worth the extra $1-2 to me. read more

One of my favorite bars on 9th Ave. I had my first legal drink here a few months ago, and I've been back at least once every week since. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed. If you've read the other views, you know they have an excellent selection of beers that are consistently switched up. It's because of Valhallah that my beer-palate has expanded. The bartenders are always super sweet, and willing to provide suggestions of I'm not sure what I want/if I want to try something new. The music is solid. The spinach and artichoke dip is ammaazzinngg. I love that it's open until 4AM, even during weekdays. I try to avoid this place during prime hours on weekends because of the large crowds. But, it's one of my favorite places to go to for a quick drink with friends, bring dates, or as a final stop before going home for the evening. read more

Oh, dear Valhalla. Dear, sweet Valhalla. If you enjoy beer, any kind of beer, GO NOW. We went randomly before the LCD show at Terminal 5 and were not only pleasantly surprised that they welcomed LCD fans, but the wall of beers they had on tap. Ballast Point Sculpin?? Gnomegang?? Yes, yes, YES! The interior was small, but I loved the wooden tables/benches, the ceiling fans were nothing like I had ever seen, and the beer - did I mention the beer? They weren't serving any food when we arrived, but the lovely lady who was bartending recommended the pizza joint 2 doors up. Hole in the wall, but SO DELISH! Good nyc pizza paired with amazing beer = WINNING. We loved this place so much, we walked in the rain to get another pint or two. There were quite a few concert-goers that followed, and it was a pretty happening place for 1am on a Wednesday night. Next time we're at Terminal 5, or anywhere within walking distance, my mouth will water knowing Valhalla is nearby. read more

Stopped in here last night before a show for a quick bite and a couple of drinks. It was my first time coming here and clearly it's a popular spot because it was packed! We fortunately grabbed two seats on the bar and ordered some food and drinks. They have a HUGE selection beer from everywhere. There is German beer, Icelandic beer, or even local beer around the city. The food is ok as it's typical bar food without a huge selection. The only con I can think of is that the food was served with plastic plates and plastic utensils so it seems kinda cheap. Valhalla came up as a new establishment with pretty good reviews so we decided to check it out. Inside, the decor is viking-esque (as one would expect). Lots of taps lined the wall and a couple of friendly servers stood behind the bar and wandered the tables taking orders. We perused the menu and inquired about flights. The server said they offered any five 5oz tastings for $23. Not a stellar price, so my wife and I worked with the server to pick five to share. Here are the ones we tried: St. Klippenstein - Strong Belgian Left Hand Milk Stout - Smooth and tasty on Nitro Founders Oatmeal Stout - Pretty good Cream Ale - Creamy but a little underwhelming Stone Bitter Chocolate Stout - Strong and on par with the name After the flight, we each ordered a glass of our favorite. All in all, it's a decent place to get a craft beer. The prices are a bit high and the bathroom (at least the men's) is incredibly small with the urinal in easy viewing range from anyone that opens the door from the bar. Was looking for a laid back place in the area to chill with friends. I like the atmosphere but not sure I'll return. Pros: Great beer selection, maybe the best in the area. The tables aren't packed too tightly so there was still room for the four of us without feeling cramped. Cons: The waitress kept trying to upsell us shots and t-shirts. Not only was it annoying it just felt tacky. What could be a cute neighborhood spot seemed to only want to cater to tourists. Went in for late night food. First the Widow Jane bourbon was not Widow Jane. It tasted closer to Southern Comfort. I don't mind paying for good bourbon I don't want crappy bourbon poured out of a better bottle.... be honest. Second issue my chicken sliders were the thickness of baloney. The hotdog my girlfriend ordered was shriveled up and tasteless. Both of us have struggled for the last 12 hours to not have the food not come out opposite ends at the same time. Decent bar by Hell's Kitchen with a great variety of beers, ranging from 5% to 12% in alcohol content. They have great craft beers and many to try from. The place is nothing too special, just an average bar in NYC. The guy at the door checking ID's is really cool and very friendly to everyone. The nachos and really good as a side with brews. Haven't had any other food here and the drinks have always been good. The place is never too crowded which is also nice. I have NEVER been treated so horribly at any restaurant or bar seen in my life. I went here with 4 of my friends and was seated but not told we had to go order drinks ourselves and bring it to our table. We then got our mango and strawberry margaritas BUT they were JUST lemonade NO alcohol we then saw they were pouring margaritas from a tap and claimed that they were sorry the alcohol wasnt running into the tap properly but that it was fixed now. We got new drinks and my drink had a long black hair in it that I noticed AFTER I took a sip. I went and asked for a manager who wasn't present. I got the bartender instead who poured our drinks and explained to her what happened she looked at me and said ILL CANCEL YOUR ORDER AND YOU CAN LEAVE! No apology nothing RUDE and NASTY lady. I didnt even need the entire bill cancelled I would of accepted an apology and at least my drink refunded since there was a HAIR in it that I drank from unbelievable and how disgusting. The nerve to disrespect a customer after something like that. We had ordered food also and my friends were eating when I went back to tell them we had to leave it was so uncomfortable for me. Id never go back there or recommend this place to anyone and dont waste your money there it is completely not worth it.
