As I sit here waiting for my delivery I am thinking about all the problems I've had with this company. Initially their response and service was the best, problems started when I got the bid which did not have everything listed. I sent an email to Spencer stating I did not want problems on the pick up day from a driver who was going to say this and that was not listed but could be added for additional money. So I got the new updated bid, and sure enough on pick up day the driver said I had more boxes then the estimate listed and he was going to have to charge me more. I did have more but smaller boxes so the cubic feet was close enough for them to only increase the cost by a couple of hundred dollars. They ask for 60% down, which means they now have your home goods hostage for cost increases. And guess what, you will never talk to Spencer again, and your voice mail messages are almost never answered. So delivery day arrives with no warning, what happened to the "I'll call you as soon as the truck leaves San Diego with the drivers name and phone number"? I do get a call at 8 am saying the truck is 20 miles down the road and what is your address, oh and now the price has creeped up by $1250. I told the gentlemen I will pay the amount listed on my contract and nothing more. 6 hours later an over the road 18 wheeler drives up and says he can't make the turn onto my street, and will have to go get a smaller truck and laborers to do the unloading tomorrow and it will cost an additional $1250. It's funny how that worked out isn't it. They knew at 8:00 in that morning that the truck was not going to make the turn and it was going to cost an additional $1250. And the laborers, who was supposed to do the unloading if the truck had made the turn? I asked for a copy of the subcontractors receipt showing the $1250 they were going to charge me for the truck and laborers and was told no can do but he would change my contract to reflect the additional money. A third party truck driver can't change a contract, so I will write up a receipt showing the bill paid in full and the increase in cost and get the driver to sign it or head on down the road. My things arrived at 2:30 in the afternoon and by 6:30 they were done. The driver was actually very good at unloading and teaching the youngsters working with him to be careful. Some stuff got lost, a good bit was damaged and we did end up with a few items that weren't ours and put them back on the truck. I don't expect to receive much if anything back from Valet Movers, but my wife may try. The bottom line here is they walked through the house, opened doors, drawers and closets, they made a list and they put a price on their list, then once you pay 60% and they have your stuff, they start jacking up the price. Would I use them again? Not in this lifetime and I would not recommend them to my friends either. They are a great bait and switch company and they are very good at the bait and switch. In the end, their price is more than one of the bids I had originally received, so I don't see any savings going with them but a lot of headaches. I have all table lamps and one floor lamp broken, a box of clothes missing. But I ended up with someone else's art mixed in with mine. How did that happen? I guess they opened up to loads and mixed them up, thanks for opening my boxes Valet Movers. Oh, and one of the day laborers hired to help unload told my wife the real reason I was charged the extra 1250 was because my stuff was in the middle of two other people furniture and they had to unload theirs to get to mine so just decided to charge me for their loading mistake. read more

It was the best quote I received, when shopping on line and over the phone. the phone rep Rachel was always available, and had an answer for everything. Rachel even suggested ways to cut my cost such as wrapping the mattress myself to save money. When the very professional and friendly move-rep showed up at my door (on time as I made it very clear, I had a flight the same day to catch), there were added fees due the extra weight $1000 . Still it was less than every other company. I would much rather pay extra to have my stuff packed right than do have it delivered damaged. He did his due diligence with my furniture and explained to me the different ways to actually save money. Just pack your stuff yourself to avoid extra charges yet you will never pack it like they do.. it was amazing, how they covered everything. It was almost airtight. Also be ware that you are charged extra for every 7 stairs after the initial one Maybe it would be cheaper for you also to have your duct tape and ceramic wrap ready when the mover get there. Jo the moving rep even give me his cell number just in case I had any question, and was calling to follow up to see if I was happy with the service after everything was delivered. I moved from San Diego to North Carolina and it took them only 10 days to deliver. They also offered free storage, something I really appreciate since I didn't have an address, where I was moving. They waited on the shipping part until I have found a new address. The driver, who delivered, was also very helpful, and friendly, prompt and always kept me updated, on where he was during the trip. I write this review after having a nearly flawless move with Valet Movers. I moved in July, 2013 from La Jolla, CA to Hollywood, FL. This was my first experience with professional movers and I was extremely scared to say the least. After hearing so many horror stories I decided to have a few different companies come out and give me an in-home estimate. Valet Movers was more than willing to come out and provide me with the estimate. Rachel came to my apartment to provide me with the moving quote. She was very honest. I had three other companies come out and I have to say Rachel by far was the most thorough. She advised me of every charge I could possibly be faced with and also gave me a list of items that could incur extra charges. Happy to report there were no extra fees added to my estimate and she even waived 2 flights of stairs at my pick-up address! I did have them pack my Flat-screen TV and a few glass pieces which she also gave me a reasonable price. Ultimately I chose Valet Movers simply because of the customer service (their A rating with the BBB didn't hurt either) and how honest I felt the sales staff was. My items arrived to my new home in FL 8 days after pick-up and much to my relief all of my items were intact and unscathed. My best moving advice is to ask lots of questions, receive an in-home estimate and follow the moving companies advice. I did these things and it worked for me! Good Luck! read more

When you're inspired to write a positive review about something like a moving company, you know they've made an impression! Never a fun task, particularly on a rainy day like, oh, today, but one that Valet Movers made as smooth and quick as possible. First, I've never used the company before, but I was referred by a friend and I was expecting good things. They definitely met and then exceeded my expectations. Why? 1 They were early! (Ok, so I wasn't showered yet but I was just gonna get sweaty moving anyway, so that wasn't a big deal). 2 Joe and his partner were nice, matter-of-fact and told me they'd get my stuff shipped to Delaware as quickly as possible. 3 They'd done moves at my building before, so that just made dealing with the how-you-have-to-move hoopla of the anal condo board much easier. No grumbling or moaning because they had to park outside, could only use one gate or elevator, etc... 4 They asked where I wanted everything put, paid attention to what I asked and were happy to readjust a few things after the first "placement." Since I moved from a one BR loft to a three BR house, this was hugely helpful as I wasn't sure immediately where to put a number of things. 5 They were careful with all of my stuff. This was the worst experience ever. We just moved and used this company because they were the most reasonable price. When we got everything ready they told us that our stuff should be to us 2 weeks from our leave date. We actually moved based on what they told us. We got to our location and we were told that it would be there 2 weeks from when we arrived at our new location. We spent 5 weeks without our stuff. When they finally came, they had the gumption to upcharge us for their movers to move our boxes to our new place. When they came it was raining and their movers had me move the stuff on their dollys! Most of our boxes were heavily destroyed. They will attempt to say, you should have packed better. My wife used to work for postal annex and knows how to pack a sturdy box. When I looked in their moving truck, it looked like a tornado hit it. People's objects were destroyed and boxes were torn to shreds all over the truck. This is the single worst experience I've personally had dealing with a company. If you want to be yelled at by their owner and reps, have your items destroyed and have ton's of upcharges then go through this company. If you want a more pleasant moving experience. My wife and I moved from S. Diego to NY many months ago and I am now getting around to writing this review. We spent a lot of time investigating other moving companies and felt that Valet Movers were the right fit. We were VERY happy with the personal service and professionalism, not to mention that they gave us the very best price compared to EVERY other moving company. They arrived on time the morning of the move and loaded our stuff and furniture rather quickly. We had them pack some stuff for us too, including a tall dining room breakfront (more on this later). VM offered to put everything in storage until we found a place to live in NY, at no extra charge (for the first month of storage). Once our new location was finalized, we received our stuff within two weeks. When everything arrived, the breakfront had been damaged, but Valet Movers took responsibility because they had packed it for us, and they reimbursed us for the damage. I was originally booked with another company but after reading their reviews decided to go with Valet Movers. I was nervous about the initial reviews I saw about these guys as well, until an agent told me to scroll down and click on the filtered reviews ( I guess yelp thinks their reviews are fake). I booked with Valet Movers two days before my move. I was stressed out of my mind because of the move being so last minute. I did not take advantage of the onsite, however they did estimate my cubic feet almost on the dot. They showed up on a Saturday (thank god they work weekends), with three guys, and really WORKED! In three hours they had my three bedroom house packed and in the truck. My things arrived eleven days after they picked it up. It hard hard to be in Oregon without my things for so long, but honestly so worth the wait. Don't move yourself, hire these guys. They're super friendly, cheap, and hard workers! AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! Do not fall for their "lower" rates. The old adage "you get what you pay for" applies to this company. They are very friendly at the start while giving info and booking the move. Then there are tons of hidden fee's, charges and....it's over 35 days later and I STILL DO NOT HAVE MY SHIPMENT - NOT A SINGLE BOX, NO CALLS, NO COMMUNICATION. Zip. I am wondering if I'll ever get my stuff again and have absolutely NO idea where it even is at this point. All I get are emails telling me my shipment 'should go out this week'. That was two weeks ago, and once again this week. I'm petrified at this point for when my boxes DO arrive and what shape they will turn up in. After reading several warnings/reviews, my hope is dashed my items will arrive safely or how many will be lost. I will post again with an update if I ever receive my shipment. Seriously, these guys are great. I've had rotten luck with movers before- even when the spirit has been willing, their skills haven't always been- but Joe and John are smart, strong, experienced, careful, responsible and I'd recommend them without reservation. The man in the Mayflower uniform who wraps everything in bubble and floats it to an air-glide van without sweating is a myth - though I'm sure if money is absolutely no object you can get someone to do anything. But then you wouldn't be looking here, would you? the reality is that the big companies send a great salesperson to your house in advance and then hires day workers under a company foreman on the day of the move who works them like dogs and you're at their mercy- if you can work with guys like Joe and John, you're way ahead of the game- even if another company promises more bodies. So happy! Rachel was wonderful and professional when she came to do the estimate. I had lots of questions and special requests concerning my move from CA to KY. She patiently answered all of them to my satisfaction. The crew and truck drivers arrived as scheduled. I was treated like gold! They went above and beyond to take care of all my "treasures". The truck arrived in KY in 5 days, just as I was told. Again, the crew paid great attention in handling my belongings. There was a misunderstanding with the cubic feet that I had used, but Joe was very gracious and I was reimbursed within 2 weeks. As I read back over this it doesn't sound real, but I could go on about how wonderfully Valet Movers treated me. A big shout-out to Allen and his crew! It's weird to see this many negative reviews. I just used Valet Movers again for a local move. I moved from Downtown San Diego to Cardiff (Encinitas area) and the move cost me 650 bucks + well-earned 100 tip. They had a crew of three guys that each did a really good job. When you call and book the move, to make sure you get a guaranteed date, you have to give a 100 deposit. If you need anything packaged, keep in mind that it will take additional time. It's an hourly cost, and then you add whatever rate you're getting per hour for each hour you go over. They moved me cross-country and did a really good job as well. I didn't have any of the problems mentioned in previous comments. As long as your read over the contract you're signing, and don't leave valuables in your stuff (duh), you should be fine. Great Move! This was the 1st time I've used movers and thank the world I pick Valet Movers to move me. I have two kids and my husband is overseas and don't have any one to depend on in San Diego. A friend of mine used Valet Movers before and told me I would be safe with Valet Movers during the move. I didn't want ex-felons in my house with my children while the move was happening. Valet Movers told me they do background checks on all their men and they all are professional. They also told me half of their crews are prior military themselves. They showed up on time and got to work immediately. Thank God for these guys! They were awesome and very nice. So, I moved to Huntersville, NC about a month ago for a job. I was contacted by many moving companies, and after speaking with the sales rep and getting a deal on my move across the country (I was on a tight budget) I booked. The movers came and were very friendly. Joseph? went through the whole contract as I was signing and explained everything. I was a little bit worried about the delivery schedule, and that I might have to wait a bit for my things to be delivered. But, in the end I got my things with a reasonable amount of time. There were a few boxes that were crushed, but I guess that's the way things go when you are moving over 3000 miles. And after following up with their customer service department realized that it was probably caused by not packing the boxes completely full. read more

I have used this company before to move my daughter into her dorm room. We moved to a smaller home and closer to my work. I called Valet Movers and set it up.Their estimator (I forgot his name) came out and gave me an estimate. We had 4 bedrooms being moved total this time. Their estimator came out and took a look at all we had to move and gave me a good idea of what they would do as far as packing and how long it should take and how much it is going to cost. Moving day they came and the movers took care of everything. I was very pleased and they were almost right on the money with the price in the end. Great experience with them so far both times. I just moved to Wisconsin and the two gentleman who helped me move were amazing. There's a 1,000 lb minimum and I met it on the nose! (Thanks to Rachel who went over all of my items and gave me her obviously educated quote! She was extremely helpful!) I had Joe and John and they were absolutely fantastic. I was extremely satisfied with their customer service and was well informed of any extra fees that might have been added. I called around and got many quotes. I decided to go with Valet Movers because they were a local San Diego company and they were close to where I was moving from. Their prices were comparable to other companies I called. The movers who came to my house were right on time. They did an excellent job at packing my fragile items as to not break them.
