David and Gilbert were there every step of the project. I live in the Santa Cruz mountains and David still made the time to travel almost every day to make sure our project was running smoothly. My wife and I are first time homeowners and I feel like David did a great job addressing all our concerns including all the heavily rotted wood that needed replacing. It's a relatively small job. However, many roofing companies in this area have a minimum charge, which is usually far beyond my expectation. Fortunately, I found J Saenz Roofing. Jesse gave me a very reasonable quote. The crew did a wonderful job. In addition to the mortar job and painting job, they also replaced some broken tiles for me (fortunately I had some spare ones). What went well was that the work was done by an experienced and professional team. They covered the outdoor decks to collect debris, removed two layers of old roofing, replaced old plywood sheet where needed, laid the water barrier and new tiles, and did a fairly good job of cleanup. I worked with Rick Pisano as the project manager. He had decades of experience in the business and so was very knowledgeable. He met with me in person at my home to explain the proposal and also for the signing of the contract, unlike others who rely on electronic forms. He was accommodating with my questions and the few change requests. What could be improved is the communication. Rick was terse with words and sometimes this led to miscommunication in our text messages and emails. I would have liked to be better informed of when the work was to start and when the inspection would be scheduled. It took awhile before work started and for the city inspection and I had to made repeated inquiries to get the info. Rick was not physically able to go up to the roof to make quality checks so I had to rely on photographs to verify the work and materials. I was able to get a rebate on materials not used but I had to request for it. In the end, the contract was executed as signed and I got everything I asked for so that's why I can recommend the vendor.
