    Hash browns

Tried this place for the first time on Sunday for brunch. Whenever we walked in they asked us if we had a reservation which was a little off putting. Anyways they ended up seating us (without reservations) right away. The restaurant itself is pretty cool with lots to look at while you're waiting. The bar area took up a good amount of the space in the restaurant and seemed to have a pretty big focus on craft beer. Our waitress was friendly and took good care of us while we were there. She was actually one of the best parts of our experience there. The brunch menu was pretty limited so I went with the biscuits and sausage gravy. The biscuits were really good, but the gravy tasted like it had a little too much flour in it. For my side I ordered the hash browns and they were really good. I would be interested in returning to try out their regular menu!

The food was all amazing, the prices were good, and Cloud, the person fronting the Vagabond Kitchen, was top-notch! Cloud kept checking on us and had wonderful suggestions. She's as much a reason to come back as the outstanding food.

I had been wanting to eat here since I saw Chef Matt on GGG. We went for brunch and made a reservation for right when it opened, although it turned out we didn't need to. Service was excellent - our waitress was one of the best I've had anywhere. I wish I could remember her name! The place is small but has a cool casual vibe. My husband got a burger and really liked it. I got the bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich with biscuits. I did not care for the biscuit - it was too crumbly for a sandwich. The breakfast potatoes (basically French fries cut up small) were DELICIOUS. I would love to try dinner sometime!

The service was amazing and very friendly. The food was amazing and I was very excited that they had rabbit. It was delicious.

I wanted to like this place, I got the hot chicken, and it was way too sour. They doused it in this very heavy in vinegar hot sauce, It was super sour that I couldn't even eat it. Nothing like what I pictured a hot honey chicken to taste like. I won't be back here.

We had a pleasant meal here. The restaurant was almost empty and we were warmly greeted by the energetic server. We were surprised at the small menu. Unfortunately, it was even smaller since they were out of many of the items on the menu. So, the pickings were slim. Hubbie had a West Virginia beer to start and I had a pomegranate grapefruit martini that was decent. For dinner, we had the Irish stew and the black bean burger with apple chutney. The black bean burger tasted gone made and was very delicious. We would come again, but wish they had more to choose from on the menu.

My boyfriend and I have come here twice now for brunch on a Sunday. I love the atmosphere here! It kinda feels like a family friendly place with a Guy Fieri moto-gang touch. It's never very full but the wait can sometimes be longer than expected. My boyfriend is a bit of a carnivore so he was really excited for the Texan Book of the Dead Chili and so we got it and shared it each visit. It's chock full of steak chunks and spice. I love that it looks like dog food! I'm serious! Yum! Gold star! Can't wait to get it again. It pairs nicely with their tortilla chips. I ordered the Steak and Eggs. The steak was their coffee rubbed flank steak with home potatoes and I asked for the two eggs to be dippy (gooey in the yolk). I also got the option to smother the fries in sausage gravy-- which I highly recommend! My boyfriend got the roasted pepper steak wrap and I found it to be good but not great. The Bloody Mary I ordered had bacon salt, which was cool. I feel like the presentation could have been better. The bacon on it was cold. The celery looked old. The drink itself was okay. Had a good amount of vodka in it. The bacon salt was tasty. The servers are always super sweet. The window seats make for good weather watching. The menu has a lot of good choices. Not too many though. We can't wait to be back!

And that's where it pretty much ended for me. We were greeted by 2 individuals prior to being sat. Once we were sat I was told I couldn't have any outside drinks. I was carrying a hot tea in a paper cup when we walked in. No one else mentioned this. I later read a posting in the bathroom about outside drinks being prohibited. Seemed like it was mostly to prevent outside alcohol but was a blanket statement for all drinks. I thought it was odd I had to take my hot tea back to my car. Besides that the waitress wasn't super warm and friendly either. If I remember correctly she started with, "what are you drinking?" After I had to walk my tea to our parked vehicle. The food was mid. Very very mid. I got a salmon savory crepe. The salmon was dry, almost white in color and just seemed old. The crepe itself was chewy and hard to cut. My husband's wrap was decent. Kids plates were also decent. I liked that you "created" their plate from 3 categories or options. Overpriced for quality and portion. Once our food arrived there was a swarm of gnats that came with it. Our table was wobbly so cutting any food shook the entire surface. Our toddler caught on to this and wanted to rock the table the whole time. So between holding the table, trying to cut food and swatting gnats away.. it just wasn't a good experience all together. I'm confident there are better options in town for us to try when we return.

It was big enough to share with three people! This is the type of restaurant that has silly names for everything on their menu. For example, Crepes of Wrath is a savory crepe with sausage, and Banana-fo-Fana has bananas and granola in it. Usually, I refuse to say these silly names out loud when I order, and instead will just order according to the ingredients. ("Give me the Nutella and berries crepe.") I know. I'm that person! You don't want to take me to a silly-names restaurant, because I will ruin your silly-names experience. In this case, though, the silly names are so pervasive throughout the menu that I was overwhelmed and I just gave up. Sometimes, you just have to grit your teeth and play along. Yes, I did say, "Give me the Last Tango." Before the crepe, though, we got lunch. Later Alligator has a huge sandwich menu. At least two dozen different sandwiches! Then there's wraps, salads, appetizers and a kids' menu. I got the Fowl Play (sigh), which is chicken salad with lettuce and tomato on a croissant. My oldest kid got the Club Car, which included ham, turkey, Swiss cheese and lettuce. In case you were wondering: The silly names extend to the kids menu, too! (Which Wich Tuna Fish is just one example.) My younger kid got the Munchkin (mac and cheese). The kids' mac and cheese here is a mini cup, so just keep that in mind if your child eats a lot. Both of my children eat like birds, so the size of the mac and cheese wasn't a problem for us. This is also the type of restaurant that has interesting things everywhere you look (including the restroom!), so take some time to look around at all of the paraphernalia everywhere.

The food is really good at this little restaurant. Elle & Jack's leans toward Italian cuisine, but it gets a little funky with it by offering things like chimichurri salmon, a burger and steak frites. The menu is small, though, which is a relief. A pared down menu is my favorite kind of menu. Give me a small list of the things you make well, and I'll be happy. We got the arancini as an appetizer, of course. My kids had never had arancini before, and they loved them. But it's hard not to love a fried ball of rice covered in red sauce! I got the steak Caesar, because I do love a good Caesar salad. At this point in my life, I'm pretty much obligated to order the Caesar if it's on a menu. The girl can't help it. The steak was cooked perfectly (medium well), and the only thing I would change would be to make the croutons smaller. We also got a side of charred Brussel sprouts with bacon and dates. These were good but needed to be a little more charred! In my opinion, Brussels sprouts taste best when they're scorched. A side order is huge and meant to be shared. It could have easily been shared with three or four people. Elle & Jack's does not have an official kids' menu printed on a paper, but they have an unofficial kids' menu, which apparently lives in each server's head and can only be shared verbally. It's like five or six items. From what I remember -- because our server's words floated away from me like dandelion seeds in the wind as soon as he spoke them -- kids can choose from pasta with red sauce, buttered noodles, a grilled cheese and a cheeseburger. One of my kids got pasta with red sauce, and it was a perfect portion size for a child. My child liked it but said that the noodles were too chewy (they were probably cooked al dente). My other kid got a grilled cheese, and he liked it just fine. The kids' grilled cheese comes with fries. The scene here is slightly upscale but casual. I saw people who were dressed up and people who were not dressed up. I think it's definitely a come-as-you-are joint, but a place to visit when you want something a little more elevated.

So I approached the juke box, and the bar tender Whoever said, that this is a family-owned restaurant, and they don't play the juke box during the day, because it is a family restaurant, but they have the Game Room, playing crude country music that doesn't respect the family, and they say my music is going make trouble. Plus they can have restricted stuff from not playing, instead, I felt singled out as a guest there. Yes, you can have your double standard rules, because this is America, and the freedom to do whatever you feel like, but that does not mean I have to go there to be singled. I don't have to go back there. The first time was great in January, but on my wife and I anniversary of 26 years, I think I can find a place where I feel more welcomed. It is always the case of passing a great place down through the family, in order for it feel unwelcomed of the glory days. Yes, I know this place has been around since the 1990's, but it is a very unwelcoming place. You can act nice, while showing you didn't want us there. They said it was because Karaoke was at 7PM, while a minute song at 4:45PM. While they didn't even know what songs I was going to place. Again, I thought it would be an old-fashioned feel. Thus instead, I felt the Cold Ridged Religious Feel that was a double standard of Gambling Rooms and so forth. Yes, I went to seminary and everything else, but I am going to let everyone choose their own path. They have their ridged rules, but that does not mean I have to eat there, especially for anniversaries. It is not an anniversary or a place for specially occasions. Again, it doesn't bother me one bit, because I move on, but I am raised with certain values to tell what I believe. My wife felt the onion soup was too breaded and cheesy. They had a great Salad and Gluten Free Pizza. And the bathrooms are clean when I went in there, but I don't feel welcomed there. Like you're a stranger that should never return. I just wonder.
