UPDATE: Their new location in downtown McMinnville is every bit as quaint and more scenic. The parking is much better on and near 3rd St than it was on Baker St. There are more stores nearby, so anytime you're in downtown McMinnville for anything, be sure to stop by Vadnay Chocolate for their awesome hot chocolate or other wide selection of their own chocolates and chocolates from other brands. I just paid eight dollars for brownie. Normally, that wouldn't be a big issue, but I was appalled at the fact that the person behind the til was wearing a Maga hoodie. I like to put my money where my mouth is and these are the last dollars I'll ever spend at Vadnay. So disappointing, especially as a local. I will be telling all my local friends as well. read more

Vadnay is still pretty new, having opened last autumn. As a dedicated chocolate lover, I visited that first week and had an iced chocolate chai, picking up some of their Cinderella chocolate for later. I don't usually get too into flavored beverages, but that chai was excellent! Creamy, chocolatey, with a flavorful but not-too-strong spice. It is also available hot, and I need to try that rendition before the weather warms up too much! The Cinderella chocolate is so named as it is untempered and must be kept refrigerated until ready to consume, then brought to room temperate before eating. Seems a little complicated, but it really isn't, and is a special treat that you likely cannot source elsewhere. At first, they only had milk chocolate which, while theirs boasts a higher percentage of cacao than most others, isn't really my favorite. I've since returned and had their dark milk and dark Cinderella chocolates - both are wonderful. In addition to the treats above, they have chocolate bars, various confections like peanut butter cups and caramels, plus ice cream, coffee, hot chocolate, and soft pretzels. They had baked goods like brownies and cookies on my first visit, but I haven't seen them recently, so not sure if they've done away with that. Their seasonal offerings change, but they had adorable bunnies for Easter. Lastly (and maybe coolest) they offer chocolate making classes! Their space is charming with a rustic, old fashioned style. Sort of like a soda fountain shop, but with a little more warm wood. Their large windows emblazoned with "Vadnay" out front are just about the cutest. They have a couple tables inside for seating. Parking is limited to the street, and while Baker can be busy, I've never had a problem finding a spot. They are always super friendly and I am just so pleased that McMinnville has their own sweet chocolate shop! read more

Whoa- what a great find! I was out and about going thrifting, and came across this shop which I had never noticed before. It looked super cute from the outside, so I went in to check it out. Immediately I was hit with the old-timey music, antique-style furniture and the smell of deliciousness. The first thing I noticed is that the menu is very limited but concise, ensuring the quality of their goods is the utmost quality. They do ice cream sundaes, have soda bottles and a 100% beef hot dog. Several bars of chocolate are on display, but I imagine due to their popularity, the shelf looked a bit barren. Hey, I'll never mark down a place for having nearly empty shelves if it is due to popularity! I picked up a bag of Cinderella Chocolate- it is a very rare find, and must be kept refrigerated or it loses it's flavor and texture. It is essentially a more "pure" form of chocolate- with fat blooms throughout and a very dense texture. I had the dark milk chocolate (also hard to find,) and for only $8 I got several ounces of the most delicious chocolate I have ever tried. It was fruity, slightly sweet but overall very complex- very similar to drinking excellent coffee. It is also so dense and delicious, that is is like a meal...sort of "weighty" on the belly and satiating. Beats every packaged candy bar you see on the store shelves, and might even beat out Moonstruck and See's. Everything from the atmosphere, food quality and the friendliness of the service is top notch here. I definitely recommend trying out Vadnay for yourself- places like this are becoming a rarity in this day and age. read more

In my opinion, Chocolate is the "real Vitamin C". I've wanted to check out the chocolates here since they opened and finally made it in today. My only regret is not having come in sooner! I'm pretty picky about chocolate, having been exposed to and having tried and spoiled by eating some of the best chocolates in the world. That said, the fragrance when we walked in the door was heavenly. The owner, Joe Vadnay not only makes all that luscious chocolate from scratch.... He teaches the art as well. The place is a slice of heaven selling bites of bliss. And the chocolate is... heavenly. The sea salt dark chocolate caramels are beyond delicious. And the brownies. OMG, those brownies! Utterly decadently scrumptious. Joe recommended we warm them when I mentioned topping them with ice cream. Let me warn you: they're addictive. Once eaten you'll wish you had more. The hot chocolate chai is one of the most delicious things I've ever tasted! I finally stopped here when I was in downtown Mac. I have a soy allergy, so the only chocolate I can eat is higher end stuff that doesn't use soy lecithin. I stopped in for the drink, but was delighted to find that I could also eat their chocolate, which I took home for later. The hazelnut chocolate is exquisite and the hot chocolate chai is out of this world! The shop is cute and sparkling clean and the proprietor is friendly and knowledgeable. This place has great food and a great atmosphere. Lots of chocolate options, dessert options, and even some food options. Visited with my teenage daughter and had a couple hot chocolates, two pretzel dogs, and a hot fudge sundae for dessert, and left with some additional chocolates for family.
