Yeah - If you like tea, or exploring tea flavors, you need to go here! I was visiting from out of town and on a whim, went into this store _just_ before closing ... where the proprietor reassuringly told me to 'take my time'. The variety of tea choices was almost overwhelming and clearly the owners had a tea connoisseur's interests in mind when creating the shop. I found a great tea blend that I've turned into an iced tea - perfect for summer sipping! Yes, the shop had gift options that support both the lower and higher end budgets (important to me!). Stopped in this sorta-hidden shop which is located downstairs from a home accessory store (Bella Casa). This tea bar has a quiet and zen-like atmosphere with tables and couches to sit and enjoy a cup of tea. They sell a wide variety of loose tea; pick one of the many jars from the shelves (each having a detailed description) and the person working will give you whatever amount you desire. They also have quite a number of medicinal herbs. Need a teapot or teacups or some other item for making/serving tea? They've got it! Want some chocolate with your tea? They have a case full of truffles and some chocolate bars for your pleasure. If you enjoy a good cup fo tea you'll definitely need to stop here when in McMinnville. read more

I'm a big fan of loose-leaf tea, and am especially impressed with tea shops that offer a wide variety of blends. I was in heaven here at Velvet Monkey Tea, gazing at a huge wall of tea selections, divided by type: white tea, black tea, and herbal. They also sell tea wares (pots, cups, diffusers, as well as little sweet treats, chocolate /bonbons, and bubble tea) Very excited to try the ones I bought: White Tip Jasmine Earl Grey Turmeric Chai Liquid Jade Tea Peach Oolong White Champagne Raspberry Blue Lady Earl Grey $4-6 per ounce. The owner/worker is kind and we chatted a little bit (always a little harder to engage with masks-on during covid!) Glad to find this gem tucked away down the stairs. read more

On a business trip and stumbled across this perfect little tea shop! They have loose leaf teas in glass canisters that detail the ingredients, flavors, and health benefits. 1oz of tea averaged between $5-$6 which makes 10-15 cups of tea. They had organic tea options and sold tea pots and accessories. They had a seating area and were located downstairs. I personally thought walking downstairs into the little shop felt exclusive and hip. They also sold chocolate, bubble tea, and honey stick candy. This is the best tea place I've ever been too! It's clean and has anything from tea kettles, to loose tea and yummy chocolate snacks! The owner is awesome and so knowledgeable about the teas! I love ice tea and he brews is perfectly every time!! I just brought a friend in with me today and she said she loved it too! It's beautifully decorated, clean and they have great service! I have become enamored with this charming tea room. My journey into my new found love of tea started with a delicious Dark Chocolate Peppermint tea. I was instantly smitten. I have since branched out to a number of teas, my home often taking on the subtle hint of the latest blend. I would be remiss if I did not also talk about the amazing owners, Serengeti and Richard, and their charming assistant Sierra. They are all knowledgeable and kind. I am always greeted with such warmth as they will often talk with me about all of the teas as I work my way through the lot. I have laughed with them and learned from them. I was so happy when I saw that there is a new tea place on 3rd street and my expectations were completely fulfilled. They have a great selection of teas and an incredible atmosphere...a perfect stop for enjoying an afternoon of shopping in downtown Mac. You can get a $3 fresh brewed tea of any kind, so I got the chocolate chili. They make sure to brew the tea for the perfect amount of time. They also have loose leaf teas available for sale on the wall of the store labeled in glass jars. Prices vary from $3-$5 and they have a large variety of all different flavors (some that were very unique). In addition to loose leaf teas, they also have a lot of different tea accessories and sweet treats. Since I was here before the holidays, I enjoyed some adorable Christmas tree truffles for $2 (which I thought was quite the steal). Next time I am visiting McMinnville, I can't wait to come back here and spend some more time at Velvet Monkey! Such a great spot for an afternoon tea and treat! read more

Massive collection of teas and a nice selection of gourmet chocolates! There is a wall with what im guessing around 40 different types of tea. You can buy bags of dried tea leaves to be brewed later or you can have it brewed there in a very cool little tea pot that you can take to one of the nice seating areas. Also the man that is always working there "who I'm guessing is the owner" is very kind and does a great job making this a warm and inviting place to hang out and enjoy a hot cup of tea. So glad I stopped in to this tea bar! Had a couple of great iced teas (Moroccan Mint Green and an orange Black), and went home with the most delicious sounding Meyer Lemon Green loose leaf tea. I was amazed by the selection of loose-leaf teas in beautiful glass jars along the wall of this little shop. Staff was super friendly and the owner even offered to open up his shop on a Sunday when they would normally be closed! Prices seemed reasonable and for higher quality products (certainly better than the crummy Teavana stores in the big fancy malls in Portland!) Super cute place!!! You have to go inside the Bella Casa store and go downstairs. They have a large range of teas which your can smell, drink and purchase. Also chocolate which was good (only has one piece). A good find here on 3rd street in this cute downtown area. They also have teapots and tea making accessories. The person who served us was very nice and helpful. A seating area adjoins the area and is quiet and comfy on a Sunday afternoon. There are a few plugs to plus in your laptop. No coffee here. Just a tea joint. The tea was extremely hot (too hot) and had to wait quite a while for it to cool read more

As a college student returning home from fall term, my family told me that a new tea shop had opened downtown so I went to check it out. Located on 3rd Street down the stairs to the right of The Barefoot Sage, the location of Velvet Monkey couldn't be any more perfect. As you walk down the steps you'll see daily specials, different seasonal teas being carried and should allow yourself to check the worries of your busy day at the door. The atmosphere inside is amazing. I've been to many tea bars in Portland, OR and Eugene, OR and this is by far my favorite. Not only is the shop a nice size but it also has a very relaxing feel to it. There is a nice seating area including extremely comfortable couches to kick back and enjoy a cup of your favorite tea in the shop or if you're in a hurry you can take your tea to go! The shop is ran by a local husband and wife who have a sincere love for McMinnville and a vast knowledge of tea. The first time I walked into the shop I was shocked by the 50+ different loose-leaf teas they carried (many of which were organic) that sat on shelves taking up an entire wall. Each loose leaf tea is sold by the ounce with the vast majority ranging from $3-$5. There are a few exceptions that can be $6-$8 an ounce but after going in many times over the last few months I haven't seen anything more than that. If you have any doubts about what you like, or are new to tea the owner can help you find something that you'll really enjoy drinking. Having spent an hour at the bar trying different teas and talking with the owner about my tastes, I went home $35 dollars poorer with a bag full of great teas to drink on over the break. A lot of tea bars have a lot of employees working there and it was so refreshing to see the owner bringing something so unique and important to him to McMinnville. To anyone that orders their teas online: forget it. Nothing can beat the experience of going downstairs of the Velvet Monkey to smell, taste and relax with a variety of quality teas and a man that can help you find your taste. Now that winter break has come to an end and I am headed back to Eugene, I would recommend any college tea drinkers to get their terms worth of tea here to help support such a great addition to McMinnville and tea bars in Oregon alike. This is my shop, and where I will continue to go to satisfy all my tea drinking needs. read more

I did not even know that this little jewel existed until I went walking around third street and there it was. I went inside and instantly knew that I had found my new happy place. Comfortable furniture, lovely music, and a HUGE selection of fresh teas! And not ground up teas either, we're talking whole dehydrated leaves, berries, and herbs. The knowledgable gentleman who works the counter makes your pot of chosen tea right in front of you, and it was by far the best tea I have ever had (I had the Velvet Monkey blend). They also have hot cocoa, moonstruck chocolates, and pastries for sale. (and wifi, feel I should mention that) Just a perfect place to unwind after a busy day. The woman working the store was slightly unprofessional, as we walked in she was at a table with her laptop. everything else is wonderful, I asked if I could have the "Bubbles" put into my lavender lemonade and she did it with out hesitation even though its not on the menu.
