Ham and cheese croissant, Marionberry pop tart, bear claw, chocolate chip cookie.

Wow, amazing pastries all around. We ordered a few savory and a few sweet and all have been delicious so far (took some home for later). We also ordered some lattes and a lemonade, all really good. Would come here again just for a ham and cheese croissant. The service was great although I did get a few stares when I accidentally took the wrong lemonade, even though I asked to be sure, sometimes people make mistakes! Would still come back for the pastries 10 times out of 10.

Alchemist is a uniquely Oregon experience. Living in the Bay area, we wonder why we can't get this level of quality and community offering. Make sure you are aware of the days/hours and arrive 20 minutes early. Only 4 or so folks fit inside at the same time. Be patient, be kind and you will be rewarded.

Absolutely wonderful! I had found this gem before our Portland trip and had added it to the list but was not expecting to be as blown away as I was! We actually saw them at the Farmer's market and grabbed the Potato Galette and a cookie before some wine tasing, and honestly couldn't stop thinking about them for the entire day. The next morning, we were lucky enough to be staying a block away so we started our morning here. Its a cute little spot with a great staff! We grabbed a biscuit with marionberry jam, another sugar cookie, an apple galette and a potato galette and every single thing was phenomenal. I cannot wait for our next trip back because I can't stop thinking about how delicious everything was!

We were in the area having a quick bite to eat and grabbed an ice cream cone up the street. There was a street fair going on so we took a stroll up the street to explore. Unfortunately this place was about to close at 3pm and they had sold out for the day of bread and pastries. The coffee machine was shut down already too. We purchased two of the jams at 16.99 each to support local and we will visit again earlier in the day next time we are out in the area of McMinnville.

Man oh man, I LOVE Alchemist's Jam! Though a bitty little shop down a side street (Ford) off McMinnville's beloved Third Street, they've packed so much inside to adore. If you live in the area, you are likely familiar with their exemplary jam. Crafted of local fruit in both traditional and more creative flavors, you'll no doubt discover a variety to tempt you. While this is the foundation for their shop, there is so much more on offer here. If seeking gifts or just shopping for fun, sustainable bath, body, cleaning, and home products abound. Also, beautiful pottery, artwork, books, and toys. Once you've filled your arms with the above treasures, it will be time to select a drink and some baked goods. They have a short and sweet coffee and tea menu, and though it wasn't listed, on a recent visit I inquired about hot chocolate, which they happily made. It tasted like melted chocolate mixed into frothed milk and was absolutely divine. My husband enjoyed his latte as well. As a notorious sweet tooth, the baked goods are my go-to. I think I've tried nearly all and can attest to their excellence. Many include AJ's namesake jam, but there are savory pastries on offer too, as well as loaves of sourdough bread (you can even buy some sourdough starter to bake your own!). The cookies are my favorite, as they are hefty, about as thick as three regular cookies stacked, and always moist and perfectly baked. I love the Moon Phase double chocolate cookie most of all - not-too-sweet, super dark chocolatey, and I find the sprinkling of powdered sugar to match the current phase of the moon incredibly charming. Everyone here is so kind and friendly, it's really a joyful space. There is a bistro table outside if you'd like to enjoy your goodies there, but they are just as delicious imbibed as you wander downtown McMinnville. The bad thing about Alchemist's Jam is that they are only open Thursday through Sunday, so you can't get their goodies any old day. But that just means you treasure them all the more when you do!

MUST TRY! The baked goods are so soft and chewy, even the shortbread! I don't know how the staff does it, I would eat ALL the cookies if I worked here!! The staff was soooo friendly and even gave my kiddo a sticker when she wanted to run off with the doorstop lol! Love this small little shop so much! They also have a ton of fun stickers, to include feminist and LGBTQIA+ stickers. Love the inclusivity of this space! We ended up also buying 2 jams and I can't wait to return for more!

I have been a baker for 4 decades. Nearly 15 years at Beaverton Bakery. I visited Iceland recently and their Bakari are all impressive. I will say the baked goods here are and par with any of their best.

Bacon was perfect, not too overdone, and it all came together nicely. TBH, the bread kinda overpowered the fillings, but so it goes. Came with a lovely mixed green salad, small, but much appreciated. Service was quick and to the point, bathrooms clean, and indoor ambiance homey and chill, good enough for a quick bite but nothing to linger in. Also? No WiFi. Bummer for a coffee shop.

So we saw Carlton Bakery and they delivered on the veggie options. We both ordered local mushroom sandwiches without meat and a couple of croissants all to go. The sandwiches came with small salads with radish and soy beans (very tasty). I probably could have bought half the items in the store as everything looked delicious. The sandwiches were tasty, good bread which was lightly toasted. The croissants were very good as well, pretty close to those in France. It took about 5-10 minutes for our order to be ready. The service was great, friendly and quick. I'd definitely return to Carlton Bakery in the future.

We know the brand and the quality because we have picked up these pies occasionally in various locations. I was primarily looking for an apple crumble pie, a frozen one I could take home to cook later. I was totally floored to see they also have these GINORMOUS chicken pot pies that are just as big as the other fruit based pies. A 10 inch chicken pot pie!? How medieval, I had to get one of those as well. These pies are all double crusted, not just a layer of crust on top, but an actual encased pie. A layer of crust, chicken pot pie filling and a layer of crust on top. Outstanding! ....but then we saw the treats and kinda lost it. Monstrous cookies. We got some Ranger cookies as well that are a delicious combination of dried fruits and nuts. The chocolate chip cookies look great, haven't chomped on that one yet. Then I saw the banana coffee cake. That one didn't make it out of the parking lot. The cake was pretty large for a single serving. It was very moist with a frosting drizzled across the top, and the banana flavor was spot on perfect. We felt like a couple of kids in this store being excited about all these offerings. We also ended up getting a hand held cherry pie and an apple pie. They were shaped like a pasty in a crust and went down easy. So many different treats, so little time. At least I got my apple pie for later and the chicken pot pies, very interested in that one. This is definitely a Mom and Pop shop, or should I say a 'Mom and Daughter' shop. They are very friendly. The store itself has a little bit of a Frontier country kind of feel and is very welcoming.

Took it home, heated it up in the oven and took one bite, and I was in heaven. This is the first time I've ever tasted marionberry and I found out that this fruit was developed here in Oregon back in the 50s. I'm used to raspberries and blueberries, but this is a very unique berry, especially made with this pie that has a really nice and delicious crust. Now I've decided what pie to serve during Thanksgiving. Can't wait again to have this pie in a few months.

They have all the basics, sure, but really shine with some local and specialty goods. Roth's is my source for Roelli's Red Rock Cheese (an ultra-creamy bleu cheddar that is divine paired with fruit and nut crisps), local SCL's Muruku noodles, and locally grown cut flowers. They are the most prolific purveyor of nicer cheese that I have found in Mcminnville, and though space dedicated to wine is in no shortage at most grocers in the area, Roth's is pleasantly displayed and fun to shop. They have some houseplants and gifts, a decent bakery and deli, a rather large produce and bulk selection, and even offer sushi. Customer service is top priority and it shows - waits in line are never long, and every employee is agreeable and friendly. They have glass and aluminum recycling out front. Selection is limited for some items, notably pharmacy and bath and body, but that is probably not what you're shopping for here anyway. Prices can be a smidge high, but they also have good sales, and overall, it is a good choice for groceries, especially if you are seeking local products or avoiding support of larger chains.
