That said, this is a pretty huge sando, and the bread it's on is a wonderfully fresh baguette of large proportions, fluffy inside and a bit of crust outside. Bacon was perfect, not too overdone, and it all came together nicely. TBH, the bread kinda overpowered the fillings, but so it goes. Came with a lovely mixed green salad, small, but much appreciated. SCW and I stopped into Carlton Bakery kind of by mistake in between wine tastings for some lunch. We intended to visit a different sandwich shop however they had no vegetarian options. So we saw Carlton Bakery and they delivered on the veggie options. We both ordered local mushroom sandwiches without meat and a couple of croissants all to go. The sandwiches came with small salads with radish and soy beans (very tasty). I probably could have bought half the items in the store as everything looked delicious. The sandwiches were tasty, good bread which was lightly toasted. The croissants were very good as well, pretty close to those in France. It took about 5-10 minutes for our order to be ready. The service was great, friendly and quick. I'd definitely return to Carlton Bakery in the future. read more

Came here every morning we were in town for pastries and every single one was delicious. The croissants are buttery and flavorful, and the scones have interesting flavors and the perfect texture. Cannot recommend coming here highly enough to start your day with pastries and coffee. On our last day we decided to have a sit-down breakfast. Their Apple compote French toast on brioche was delicious. The fruit tasted great on top. The avocado toast was immensely disappointing. We were fairly confident that the avocado was not fresh and had come from a pre-puréed container. Staff members were always friendly. Even when full it wasn't too loud. If you get the BLT check it before you take a bite. The 2 puny strips of bacon were raw, as in the white fat was still white. Mostly baguette for a $15 sandwich. I called to tell them about this and ask for a refund (I took the sandwich to eat at home). I did send them a picture so they could see. I was told they would investigate and get back to me. When I reached out day and half later after not hearing back they said they had refunded my money. They did give me my money back when I asked but I didn't sense they were overly concerned. Told me even though the bacon was "undercooked" they do lots of other things well. As others mentioned only saw teenagers working and they didn't seem real knowledgable. Also got a vanilla latte (my only complaint was they put it in to-go cups despite knowing I was dining in). Still some of the best macarons around! We compare all others we try to Carlton Bakery. We have been coming here for many many years, even before we moved to Oregon. We used to make sure we would drive out here when we would come to visit family throughout the years. So glad they have been able to expand their little bakery shop to a bigger location across the street from the old location. It was such a beautiful day outside we grabbed our treats and walked across the street to sit in the park and enjoy them in the sunshine. They now offer a larger variety of local favorite jams, jellies, marmalades and olive oils. They have coffee and tea drinks as well. They do have an outside eating area out back. read more

Surprise, a bakery worthy of Portland although too small for New York and too native for Paris just a few miles from my country home! Bliss is this new and improved generation of Carlton Bakery. The croque madames are the pièce de résistance here (served for both breakfast and lunch), and the pastry selection is superb (admittedly, we have not made it far beyond the almond croissants and pain au chocolat which are excellent). The shortbread cookies are just right--not too much sugar. The coffee is Stumptown, although I wish they'd serve something closer to home like BJ's/Roots coffee or Longbottom. They DO sell eggs from Santos Farm as well as other local products. I want to buy one of everything, but I wish they'd put prices on their items so I wouldn't have to ask. Love the outdoor seating (spacious, garden view) although I guess one has to ask for the heaters to be turned on. Indoor seating is limited but attractive (beautiful wooden tables and chairs). I can tell there's someone really good in the kitchen because the oil and vinegar salad dressing is just right, and the edamame really elevates the salad. read more

When I tell you I was fat kid in a candy store, I'm not kidding. Also could have been that we were driving back from camping in Tillamook and food that was not charred from a camp fire was pretty incredible. Stopped in on a late lazy Sunday morning and we're welcomed by the beautiful smell of freshly baked goods. Picked up a bit of everything: sweet and savory. Don't make the same mistake we did and buy more than one of the mushroom or jalapeño croissants bites; about the size of a donut hole. Very tasty! Also picked some plain and flavored croissants, sticky buns, and the most interesting bacon and whole grain mustard pastry - not pictured, wolfed it down too quickly. Only thing I would pass on would be the short bread cookies. Left me a bit underwhelmed, which was surprising. Either way, I'll look forward to picking up some baked goodies anytime we find ourselves buying wine or coming back from the coast. read more

This coffee shopped oozed charm. When you walk in there is a display case filled with delicious pastries, then to the right there is a cozy fireplace, and in back a charming patio. Now on to the food, we ordered a delicious marionberry croissant, and had the veggie quiche. The quiche was the shining star. It was light and fluffy and filled with fresh veggies. My only gripe is that, we were dining there, and the food was served on real plates, but when the coffee came, it was served in a to-go cup. I asked if I could have a ceramic cup, and was told that wasn't an option. Environment aside, I never feel like coffee taste as good when drinking from a plastic lid. Legit French bakery in the heart of Carlton. I discovered this bakery after attending an event at Ken Wright Cellars and tasting a lavender shortbread cookie. It was buttery goodness with a hint of lavender that made it next level. The next time I was wine tasting in the area, we arrived earlier in the day just so we could visit the bakery and buy a stash of shortbread cookies! We discovered chai shortbread which were just as awesome. And the almond sticky bun was insane!!! While there we tried the breakfast sandwiches. My egg, bacon & cheese on a buttery croissant was sooo yummy. OMG, I'm glad I don't live close by otherwise I would stop here way too often.
