Tough location. -1 star for the pricing - it was a treat only at their prices (~$20 for most of their piroshki after tip). Nice to know it will continue to be a good location for a deep-fried grease fix...

I was in the area, and I love Russian food, so I thought I'd check this place out. I ordered the…read moreBoo's Love meal, and $18 seemed a little steep, but I was really hungry. Thankfully I pulled over in the lot to eat, so I didn't get far before I noticed my meal had come with fries instead of the salads. The salads were half the reason I wanted to eat there. I walked up to the window to ask why I had gotten fries, and the woman told me they were out of the salads. That's definitely something she should've mentioned when I ordered, but she didn't. I pointed that out to her and explained I wouldn't have wanted it if I had known. She offered to let me return my meal, but I suggested she refund half and let me keep it, which she agreed to. The piroshki was a good size and well seasoned with plenty of filling. The fries looked seasoned but didn't taste like it. They needed salt and/or some kind of sauce. I didn't order any sauces because I didn't know I was getting fries, but they should've come with something complimentary IMO. They were extremely slow for a Friday afternoon on a very busy road. The prices on their website are considerably less than at the shop ($18 vs $15.50 for my meal), and there wasn't a current menu pic on Yelp (which I've since added). I would've skipped it altogether if I had known what they were charging. I imagine that's part of the reason they're so slow. Minus two stars for not explaining they were out of half my meal before preparing it, plus one for offering a fair solution, minus one for sub-par fries and nothing to eat them with. Minus one for inconsistent pricing.

You don't get that with the bigger shops that are open longer hours. I expect in a couple of years this place will be like Annie's-sold out at 5:30 AM! I am partial to Bavarian creams - and their pastry cream is the best I've had in the Portland area. What amazed me even more were the Apple fritters. They are usually gross concoctions of sugar and grease but these are lighter and full of flavor. I feel like anyone that can make an apple fritter craveable is winning what they do. Even though it impacts me negatively, it would be great to have people stop by for office runs and buy them up. I would've been so happy to see those donuts in the break room.

I ordered a maple bar(1.75) which had minimal frost and was kind of small. The old fashioned I ordered was again very tasty but VERY VERY small. Like the size of two little Debbie Doughnut holes. Overall a good doughnut, but I can do better value wise at other shops. I would return but not my first choice. *adding: Was there near closing so maybe I was getting the last of the day's supply, but the last doughnut should be as well prepared as the first.
