If you're used to the level of cheeriness from Dutch Bros then you might consider Common Grounds "rude"...I just felt like it was a perfectly normal interaction with no overly fake smiles. We spend a lot of time in Carlton for great food and wine. Unfortunately, this coffee shop has very mediocre coffee served by an unfriendly woman who I can only assume owns the place. Save your time and money and head a few doors down to Carlton Coffee Company. read more

Worst customer service worker was mad the whole time said less then five words and after she made two drinks we added another one and she left her hand hanging out the window shaking in disgust. Will not go again. Even left a tip and said have a good day. read more

We're staying in Carlton for a few days and are so happy we found Common Grounds. The young man working there was super friendly, helpful and the latte and brewed coffee we had were both delicious and fresh. The toasted bagel was great, too! We will be back. read more

Today I had possibly the BEST latte of my life! (It was very tasty). I walked up and ordered the daily special, which said "double latte" on the board out on the sidewalk, for $3.50. (That's "tree-fiddy" for you South Park fans.) I had a nice chat with the lady inside, possibly the owner? I got back to my car and drove off, taking my first sip. Ahhh, glorious! It was a little sweet, but not too sweet or sugary. And I detected yummy almond flavors. I ended up calling her from the road to see what she made me, and she said the special of the day was a white chocolate...and almond? I forget. She didn't say marzipan, but I know it was almond something. Anyway, it was a fantastic drink! Check this place out! read more

So so coffee. Barista was nice, but don't think I'd go out of my way to stop their for coffee again. Had a triple shot white mocha and just tasted very bland, bitter and had I not desperately needed the caffeine shot, probably would have thrown it out. =( Thanks! read more

I have never been treated so rudely before in my life. Employee was more concern with smoking and talking with her boyfriend than serve us. Shocked they actually can afford to stay open with that poor of service. read more

I have stopped on many occasions to get coffee and hot coco with the kids. But after today... Due to snow routes I had to leave work and rush to get my four children and had them meet me at Carlton Corners, a very friendly place. I let them know that I was entering Carlton. I saw them coming around in front of Pipers and I turned right and went slowly through common grounds expresso and Carlton Bakery (there were no customers and I went slow) what I presumed to be the owner of common grounds espresso, met me at my car and rudely confronted me and said "This is a drive thru business not a turn around." I explained to her I understood and it was a one time thing and I was only getting my children. She was so rude about it, she continued to lecture me about it and I told her it won't happen again I was just trying to pick up my kids. I actually had to shut the door because she continued to go on. I didn't want the kids to hear anymore. One of my 10 year old twins asked "Why was that lady so mad? She looked like she was closing" . I have never turned around in that business ever and will never ever go to her business again. I read some other reviews to make sure it wasn't just a bad day for her but seems like she needs to hire friendly people and stay home. It was my bad too! I should have not gone thru there but I didn't deserve that treatment and especially in front of my children! read more

The main reason for 1 star is because the woman who works here has been extraordinarily rude to us several times. The last time I pulled up here it was by mistake, so after maybe 1 second at the window my wife, kids and I pulled on past and then parked 30 feet away, out of the way of her coffee shack's driveway. I waited with my 2 kids in back while my wife went into the bakery next to this place (to get GOOD "Stumptown" coffee, by the way). Seconds after I had pulled past her little booth, she came storming out up to my car saying "WHAT do you think you're doing!!!" I looked at her, astonished and said "I don't know what you're talking about." She said something like "You drive up to my window and then pull away and then you park here in a no parking zone!" Well, there were no customers to be seen ANYPLACE, I was technically standing (not parking) in my car with my kids (for a matter of seconds), and I was not even remotely in the way of either of her windows' driveways, so I was just shocked that she would come chasing after me for daring to make the apparently egregious error of coming anywhere near her espresso booth and not buying something. N.B., business owners/managers everywhere: CHASING AFTER CUSTOMERS TO YELL AT THEM FOR DARING TO SOMETIMES NOT SHOP AT YOUR STORE IS NOT A WAY TO KEEP THEM COMING BACK! Perhaps my answer to her question as to what I was doing should have been: "Not *ever* spending my money at your obnoxious espresso booth again!" We have close family who live in Carlton, and they were are all shocked at her behavior and how badly it reflects upon this cute, friendly town and its otherwise great reputation. read more

Coffee is okay but customer service is beyond horrible. The owner needs to consider how she treats people.

I would give 0 stars if I could. My father used to drive 15 minutes to this shop to get a coffee every single morning for my mother religiously. Due to the owner constantly having dour and rude customer service, he now drives 1/2 an hour one way to go all the way into McMinnville for her morning coffee every day instead. She has a lack of customer service, have hardly ever seen her smile, and is known to be completely rude to people. The mediocre coffee is NOT WORTH spending money to be treated like dirt. Have also ordered a coffee with a friend who specifically said 'iced caramel' for her to hand out a warm drink. Wouldn't have been a big deal if my friend had not handed it back and mentioned she said she wanted iced (it was the middle of the summer and a very hot day) for the woman to sneer at her and say "If you wanted an iced drink you should have made that clear." And when she finally received the iced drink for her to say, "I ought to make you pay for both drinks." Very rude woman. Know many people she has treated poorly and I don't even know how she is still in business Honestly. It's worth it to get out of your car and go INTO Carlton Coffee Co down the road, where they smile and treat customers like they like you. read more

This is a nice little drive through coffee place on the Main Street in Carleton. I was pleasantly surprised that the barista knew what a macchiato is in such a place. The service was prompt and pleasant and the coffee is very good. You can grab a pastry at the Carleton Bakery next door. read more

While the coffee was good the service was not a pleasant experience. The customer across from you and behind you is much more important than you. So if you want a a good coffee and don't mind being treated like a second class citizen head here. read more

Brenda does an great cappuccino and knows exactly how to do coffee the right way. Her place could be a little hard to miss as she doesn't do the over the top/in your face advertising that most do to draw you in. You can count on high quality, professionally made orders and she always is a font of knowledge about anything going on in Carlton. She also carries nice baked treats but again, you won't be overwhelmed with 100 silly choices. Just great coffee, tea and other beverages served with a smile. I'm so glad she's here for us! read more
