The Human Bean coffee shops across the country participated in the 15th annual "Coffee for a Cure 2020" Friday by donating all of their profits from the days coffee sales to the Medical Center Health System Foundation in support breast cancer awareness and treatments! They are donating 100 percent of the profits from that day to local breast cancer agencies. The money will go directly to the Medical Center Health System Foundation to help the patient navigation program for breast cancer patients. I love that this company is so Human focused and does good things like this every year. They have a wonderful variety of coffee and teas. There is something for everyone. I'm going to give this place a 2.5 star rating. Coffee is nice! But I ordered a sausage egg and cheese bagel. The bagel is a whole grain bagel and is NOT as pictured at all. They also had sausage on there after I asked for no sausage. They tried E for effort. Very disappointing on the bagel though. Not good for business. The barely covered chocolate coffee bean is a bit disturbing. read more

There's so much to like about this place. The Starbucks in Newberg (also with a drive through) was so much closer to where I was coming from but I decided to hold off, and go a little bit further. The Human Bean was definitely worth the wait. Located on the corner of Villa and Portland Rd, it was an easy right turn to their drive through. They were busy but service was quick, and prompt. It took less than 5 minutes from when I ordered for me to receive my drink from the barista. She was pleasant, and asked "how my day was going?" The mocha was great. If you ever need a cup of caffeine, make sure to swing by and give them a try. Help support local businesses in the neighborhood. read more

I'm not a coffee drinker. I've never enjoyed a nice steaming cup of Joe. However.... I decided to try this place just for hoots. I get there and it's about 5 in the morning, I can't lie. So I'm standing there waiting at the window to order my Joe. The coffee handler maybe didn't notice me or didn't like me or something because she didn't take my order for like 10 minutes! I'm being Fr about that. Eventually I leaned on the flimsy metal slab that their tip bucket rests on trying to make myself known. By then, she had dealt with her line and served a car that had showed up after us! And I even showered today. Really upsetting. So she takes me and my mates orders and makes are juices. (She makes a mean green tea smoothie, I could not lie.) And at that point, my tummy is sore from not having juice and having to wait for so long, so I crack a joke to lighten the mood. "It took a long time for you to take my order! I thought it was gonna be free!" Yes I came up with that line completely by myself. This moment spiked my oxygen deprived mind with so much exhilaration that I commenced in a 10 second long peanut jig. Only snapping out of my trance when, the ringing stopped and all I heard was "uh, yeah I forgot to take your guys' payment." I then payed and mumbled something under my breath about the intricacies of the art of dance and stepped out into the brisk morning horizon. I will never forget this experience. The person who took my order was nice. The coffee tastes like mop water. I got a blended Carmel granita. I told the lady like 3 times I wanted a large and apparently the large has two different sizes. I think I ended up paying for the 32 and got the 24. My daughter got a kids hot chocolate. I got a little 4 ounce bag of chocolate expresso beans. All in all it was over $14.00 for mop water blended coffee, beans a hot cocoa. It's usually consistently good. I always order the same thing. It's a coffee place. Well it's a little bit more than that. They serve all kinds of blended drinks also. It's drive thru rather than drive up. They also sell some breakfast options. A pretty good selection of sandwiches. They must make some of parts of the sandwiches. They don't seem to be entirely made of frozen Ingredients. Service is super friendly. Everyone seems amped up on coffee. Which is what one would expect. They offer plenty of current specials and always seem to be have an interesting offer. The coffee is way better than burnt Starbucks. Not as sweet as Dutch Bros. So as a coffee it's way better than the average or what everyone has settled for the less than good average coffee. The service level is outstanding. They also offer lots of discount in their sign up online club. Definitely better than average. The prices are kind of high. Not a place you could make a normal everyday stop. Unless you have the money to spend every day. More of a once a month treat stop for me. read more

Initially i wasn't going to write this review. But my friend Mr. Fish told me i should, as a similar thing happened to him. So here i am. I was on my morning run today, 10/9/2024. at around 5 am. I walk up to give my order, and i see that the window is closed. I wait and wait for around 10 minutes, finally my order gets taken. I say "a large and a small pumpkin java chip, please" and as she repeats my order she says "two java chips, whip or no whip?" i reply "no whip" and i think to myself, Did she forget that i said pumpkin and did she perhaps not like my pleasantries? Or was it simply a figment of my imagination? I wait for another few minutes and i think, gee. This is taking a while! I think i might have upset the barista. I finally get my order, and i'm about to say, "Thank you have a nice day" But the barista does it before i can, and now i have to awkwardly say "You too" Making an embarassment of myself. They have a huge selection of dairy free milks, hemp, almond, cashew, oat, the list goes on... the coffee is superb and so is the chocolate covered coffee bean they give you as well. Cute little shop. Unfortunately, the espresso wasn't very good. We also got breakfast bagels. The pro was that it's actually not greasy. The con was that it tasted homemade - as if someone bought a bagel and put meat, cheese and egg in between. It wasn't bad, and probably better for you anyway but it was a bit weird eating something that tasted as if you got it from a neighbor's kitchen. The staff was super friendly though! read more

I have been to other Human Beans before and I enjoy the coffee. I have gone to this Human Bean a few times and never experienced a issue. They seem to be quick on making drinks and their service. The flip side to this is their service is so fast sometimes they do not say anything to me other then my total. Some times it would be nice to just to be greeted and then asked for my money. One of my favorite parts of Human Bean is the chocolate covered coffee bean but this location seems to be inconsistent on handing them out. read more

They dont seem to have the best communication with each other. When I make an order I will state the size of drink I want and that I would like whip, they will ask me " what size of drink was that" and "do you want whip on that" after I've already stated those things( I can understand if its hard to hear due to the traffic) but, when I get to the window they will repeat the same questions and then ask about the whip AGAIN before handing the drink over. Its very annoying. They also tend to ask if you would like cream in your cremosa.....its a fricking cremosa...of course I want creme in it!! I also gave them a stamp card that only needed one more stamp before getting a free drink. after ordering two drinks I told them I'd like to use the free drink...well they decided to swipe my card for BOTH drinks and just credited the money for one of the drinks back into my account( the money is still not back in my account) I dont understand why they even did that‍‍ i give up on this place. They dont ask how your day is most of the time and the evening shift just talks to each other about their personal lifes while taking a nice 10 minutes to make your drink. read more

I am surprised to see so many positive reviews for The Human Bean. We stopped for the first time on our way to the beach and ordered 4 espresso coffee drinks. Everyone said it was the weakest, worst coffee drink they'd ever had. Maybe we caught Human Bean on a bad day, or maybe the barista was new and didn't know how to make the drinks right? Either way, I threw out half my latte - it was so weak it tasted more like warm milk than coffee. :-( The only redeeming thing was the yummy little chocolate covered espresso bean served on the top of each beverage. On my annual trips to Portland, or sometimes bi-annual, to visit my great uncle -- I always stopped by Human Bean on the way to his retirement home. I always get the same thing: triple decaf almond latte, in my own cup. Service is always friendly, efficient and they rinse my cup for me! I want to say so many great things about this location because staff is alway nice and friendly and the drinks come out on time. However there's too many times to count how many times my order has been wrong and too many times an extra drink was charged to my card. I would give them 5 stars if those 2 things didn't happen (at least once a week). They do fix those things if they are brought to their attention, it's just annoying. Done trying to get a decent coffee from this place. I pay 4-5$ for an americano with flavoring to enjoy and every single time it tastes like poop water with sugar in it. I've been a barista before for years and the shots they are pulling are burnt and taste like they have been pulling the same shot at least 5 times through. I am not a great coffee lover but once in a while I like a decaf with hazelnut very sweet or a mango smoothie. I buy the chocolate beans for gifts at my store and everyone loves them. I don't understand all the great reviews, particularly when it comes to service. We regularly place large orders ($60+), and the last two times the staff seemed very put off by us. The first time they just didn't do it (had about an hour advance on the order), the second time they did, but seemed very irritated at us and were generally unpleasant. I could see why they wouldn't want large orders, but if that's the case they could have just told us, rather than letting it be known they don't want our business through poor service. Guess what? I took my family by for coffee last Sunday morning and I'll never go back. My wife and daughter had a Double chocolate chunk Granita and they liked it, while I had a 12 oz latte. I thought my latte was watery with very little coffee flavor. That was the worst latte I have had in over a year and I have 2 to 3 per day. The gal taking my order was very cheery and enthusiastic about my mocha and kids hot chocolate. Yesterday evening I was purchasing a coffee at the Human Bean in Newberg and there was a Yamhill County Police Officer in line two cars behind. When I got to the window, I said I would like to purchase his coffee as a way of giving gratitude for the job he does everyday. Unfortunately I was told by the young woman that I was not allowed to do that by their policy because it was considered bribery and was somehow against the law. I WAS choosing to purchase the beverage, they were not bribing. I was disappointed that I couldn't show my gratitude. It would have been nice for her to say, we've been informed by local police that this is something they cannot accept. She just sounded like she didn't know what she was saying. This was on top of the extremely long wait-which if at Starbucks, everyone in line would've gotten a free beverage because the wait was 15-20 minutes. Completely unacceptable. read more

I usually get 'ok' service. Went today and got a different kind of drink (12oz.). The young woman responded, "16oz." and I corrected her. She even acknowledged that I wanted a 12oz. When I pulled up, I could hear her saying to the other girl, "I rung him up for a 16oz. but he has a 12oz. drink. Should I just charge him for a 12oz. or redo it?" To which the reply was quite nonchalantly, "Nah! just cash him out for the 16!" I could tell the other girl was uneasy about it, but she nevertheless followed through. I didn't say anything (it's a matter of 25 cents) but was hoping she would own up before I drove off.
