A pleasingly large amount of their products are packaged to show off what you're getting

Pacific Hazelnut has become a winter holiday shopping destination for us. East coast relatives are now asking for specific products by name, so our previous browsing sessions, choosing interesting looking products at random (or, in pre-pandemic times, making good use of their samples), have really paid off. It's slightly annoying to realize how little I get to ultimately eat from the things we buy here, but knowing we'll always find great gifts makes the drive from Portland a bit more pleasant. You'll find a nice mixture of good sized packaging that shows off what's inside, and larger gift box varieties that make it easy to feel generous when shopping for others. This store has also become a place where we bring out of town visitors - knowing that they'll find local delicacies to take back home with them. Actually, the entire town of Aurora is a great visitor destination.

L to R: Milk chocolate hazelnuts, butter toffee hazelnuts, marionberry jam, garlic dip (just add sour sceam)

I am heading out to visit some friends in North Carolina, so I wanted to bring them a taste of Oregon. To me, hazelnuts and marionberries epitomize Oregon. So I went online and discovered this factory just 10 minutes from my house. They've got a good selection of hazelnut products: Everything from dark chocolate, milk chocolate, savory seasoned hazelnuts, to butter pecan nuts. They've even got marionberry covered nuts, so you can get both Oregon specialties in one product. I, however, did not like those at all. I wish they had samples so you could try before you buy. That's what I was expecting. But I guess in 2022, Covid is still too much of a scare for that. I look forward to going back when that is a possibility again. For anyone looking for Oregon gifts, this is a good start.

Small section of sugar free items. Possibly not all the options together but still helpful.

Nondescript building with ample parking. You will often see shades drawn (which I assume is to keep the candy cool) but there is an open sign. Enter into a small but great candy and confectionary shop. The store is compact but had many great options to try. Favorites were the tons of candied nuts, the sugar free confections and the local jams/syrups. Amazing gifts as well as delicious options for a fun cooking adventure (the huckleberry syrup I purchased has been used in spritzers, salad dressing, and in a bbq glaze as well as on pancakes.)

We arrived early and our movie didn't start for a few more hours, so we decided to kill some time at My Candy Fix and the next door GameStop. While in My Candy Fix, I noticed they had Sno-Biz snocones. We got some candy and walked around the mall a little bit before returning. I got a small size snocone and had to wait a little while as the cashier had to tend to other customers. Once the other customers were helped, I got my cone, and John offered to put in some extra to compensate the wait. One of my friends wanted to know what the snocone syrup tasted like, and offered to buy a small size without any ice. John told him that there was no need to pay, and gave him a "shot" of strawberry snocone syrup. After that, my other friend wanted to try the Rube Goldberg-esque gumball machine. Towards the end of the gumball's ride, it fell off the track. It still fell into the dispenser, but we still wanted to know what happened at the end. That's when John came over and put in his own coins to see why the gumball fell off. After finding out, he too a gumball from the top of the machine and put it on the remaining part of the track so we could see how it ends. And he also let us keep the test-gumballs! Overall, my experience was incredible and without John, it would've just been another run-of-the-mill candy store. But John made my friends and my experience worthwhile, and I'll be sure to drop by again.

While taffy is not our "go to" sweet, these Taffies were very nice and clearly made with quality ingredients. The Chocolates were of a very high quality. We especially liked the orange and raspberry bars. We also enjoyed their upscale interpretation of a Yok Peppermint Patty. The care and love for the Craft was evident in the quality and refinement of the Chocolates we purchased. It's good to support small family operations. It is very easy when the product is this good! We always stopped at a candy company that had the old style antique candy machines that they were still using and you could watch the man working at the machine that actually cut and wrapped the saltwater taffy. Well, I recently went back in because I was trying to find that shop and lo and behold. There was the machine and the young lady behind the counter said that her family had owned it since the business had been started further north of 101 and at her parents now we're running it, but she would eventually take over from them, and I just picked up an assortment a handful of this handful of that because I have relatives that live in the Midwest and all they can get is the run-of-the-mill factory produced saltwater taffy that really has no flavor and is horrible and about two hours after the box arrived and I've always opened it. I got a call saying oh my Lord this is the best saltwater taffy we've ever had.
