We arrived early and our movie didn't start for a few more hours, so we decided to kill some time at My Candy Fix and the next door GameStop. While in My Candy Fix, I noticed they had Sno-Biz snocones. We got some candy and walked around the mall a little bit before returning. I got a small size snocone and had to wait a little while as the cashier had to tend to other customers. Once the other customers were helped, I got my cone, and John offered to put in some extra to compensate the wait. One of my friends wanted to know what the snocone syrup tasted like, and offered to buy a small size without any ice. John told him that there was no need to pay, and gave him a "shot" of strawberry snocone syrup. After that, my other friend wanted to try the Rube Goldberg-esque gumball machine. Towards the end of the gumball's ride, it fell off the track. It still fell into the dispenser, but we still wanted to know what happened at the end. That's when John came over and put in his own coins to see why the gumball fell off. After finding out, he too a gumball from the top of the machine and put it on the remaining part of the track so we could see how it ends. And he also let us keep the test-gumballs! Overall, my experience was incredible and without John, it would've just been another run-of-the-mill candy store. But John made my friends and my experience worthwhile, and I'll be sure to drop by again.

My family member gave this Salem store about 10 years of reliable service, took on leadership-level responsibilities, and consistently delivered the customer care people expect from See's. Despite her experience, she was repeatedly passed over for leadership opportunities. Employees were told that lead positions would no longer be filled, yet someone younger and far less experienced was later placed into the role, The final year was especially discouraging. As a single grandmother raising a teenage granddaughter, she was routinely assigned the least desirable 4:00-7:00 p.m. shift--during the limited evening hours when she needed to be home parenting and caring for her family. The arrangement eventually became unsustainable, and after years of service, she resigned. On one occasion, she was struck by a car while crossing the street to come to work. She was in so much pain that she could barely stand. Rather than someone immediately recognizing that she needed help, she had to ask another person to call an ambulance--an act of basic human compassion that should not have required her to ask. Customers may have a pleasant experience at the counter, but my family's experience left me questioning whether this location gives its employees the dignity, loyalty, and care they deserve.

I first became aware of this business when a work colleague brought bags of their popcorn to work…read more I was impressed with the popcorn and so it went on my list! The store is packed with decorative tins you can select to contain your popcorn if you are giving it as a gift. Also there was a bunch of unusual candies on offer, as well as fudge. But I was here for the popcorn. The selection is huge! Sweet, savory, spicy, tangy, it's all represented here. Service was super relaxed and friendly. They were patient with me while I perused the extensive menu. If you aren't getting a tin for the popcorn, they sell it in bags. There are a bunch of different size bags, and I liked that there are smaller (but still generous) sized bags that enable you to try a variety of different flavors. I went with white cheddar, Chicago mix (caramel and cheese), spicy pickle, Jalapeno ranch, peanut butter chocolate, and Oreo. All were so delicious! Every kernel was packed with flavor. The popcorn itself was fresh and with zero unpopped kernels. The seasonings were all just right, not too much or too little, and evenly adhered to the popcorn. So addictive! The service was super nice, and the prices not too bad. I think they deliver too. I grabbed a menu because I will definitely be back! Such a great place to have here in Salem. Great for treating yourself or picking up a gift.

I am giving this place 3 stars because every time I have gone in, in hopes of purchasing something, the rude older woman makes me uncomfortable to the point where I leave. She does not acknowledge you, almost glares at you. About a month ago I walked in only to see and hear her in the back doorway almost chewing someone out over the phone. I felt uncomfortable and left. Very unprofessional and that woman has been there for years. The storefront was not staffed because she was telling someone off on the phone in the back. Not a good look. I'm a manager and that is very poor service.

I primarily chose this spot because they have a really nice outdoor patio area so I knew I would be able to sit with my dog and eat and enjoy the weather. What I didn't know was that it had Salem spelled out in colorful letters in the front which made for an awesome photo opportunity. I was really excited to find that. When you walk inside, it has this really bright, colorful, unique decor. There is something interesting to look at no matter where you turn. They offer free samples which I really appreciate because it personally makes it easier for me to decide what I want and it definitely encouraged me to buy more cheese! My favorite sample was the queso cojeda enchilado. It had a rich tangy flavor. I ended up ordering a torta with some chips and grabbed a few different salsas from the salsa bar to try. The food was good and I couldn't leave without buying some of their smoked Oaxacan cheese to take with me. Let me tell you, it only lasted me 2 days. I wish I had bought more. As I was buying the cheese, I saw a family enjoying some ice cream cones and I had to try their ice cream as well. This place has everything. I got a cone of the Oregon mint and honestly I think it might be one of the best flavors of ice cream I have ever had. It was so fresh and flavorful and I was actually sad when I started getting to the bottom of the cone. If you're an ice cream person, you have to try it. They also gave me a card for a free game of bowling at Northgate Bowl which I thought was a really neat bonus. I wasn't in the area long enough to use it, but if we had been staying longer I definitely would have tried out the bowling as well. This is exactly the kind of local business I want to support. It's warm, welcoming, and most importantly, all of the products that they are putting out are fresh, delicious and made with love.
