Food (1.5/2): Great food option for what I think is an authentic Indian cuisine, though I'm not sure which particular region this is coming from. All I can say is their rice dish is full of spice (and actually spicy, in a very good way), which makes you want to just cram more food as you eat. You can taste their chicken and rice are very well-seasoned with a great balance between the spices (maybe the spicy part is a bit too strong). A minor negative for me is just the amount of "protein" that comes along with the dish--I wished they'd give a bit more. Service/wait-time/cleanliness (1.5/2): Difficult seating arrangement but service was otherwise very friendly, though not particularly fast. The wait-time was decent, the longest being trying to get a seat rather than the food itself. Cleanliness is so-so. One of the worst indian restuarants I've had the misfortune of going to. Over the past four years, I've seen this crappy owner pay people to post positive reviews on Google Maps - Yelp seems a little less bought off, but I haven't looked closely. This guy will hire ten people to post five star reviews with food that obviously isn't from them/isn't representative of the slop they serve to customers every time they dip under 3.5 stars. The service was ass when I went, practically nothing on the menu was available (based off of asking for four different items before having to ask what exactly they even had), it was a long wait for very little food, and ****it was so freaking bad that I can't forget about it or let it go!!!**** Back when I went, it was like the only indian restaurant in the area, which makes how bad it was even worse. Visiting Boston and craving Indian food. On a Sunday this place is packed. Service was great / although I come from a north Indian background I asked what would be the spiciest chicken curry options - I went with the chettinad chicken (South Indian dish so something new for me) and got a side of rumali roti because I am obsessed with these. Slight wait which I don't mind because I know it's all fresh then. Got back to my hotel and dug in - spicy and flavorful chicken. Cooked well. Rumali roti had a slight transparency to it which is exactly what you're looking for. While waiting I noticed the freezer had tons of Indian ice cream bars and reminded me of when I've visited india and would grab ice cream from the carts! So I tried this place twice. It's very near to where we stay, right at heart of downtown which is a plus. First day we picked up. We had mastan bhai biryani, angry chicken noodles. Don't know why the rating is so low for this place. I got the "Sunny Leone" Combo with lamb curry. I like the naan. It has the right texture. The lamb curry is very good too. I eat more rice than normal as I want to finish the sauce. The chickpea is ok though. It's a bit bland. The combo is good to have a bit of everything. I have to make this review because I'm just so shocked and disgusted. Besides the fact that they gave me roti instead of naan, the food itself is not bad, not great. Everything else is review worthy and not in a good way. Issue #1: I went in to order and waited 45 minutes for my food. It took them 15 minutes to even acknowledge me and take the order. That's on me for not leaving after 10, to be honest. But by then I was like you know what, I already came here and waited this long I might as well wait a bit longer. Had no idea how long it would actually be!! The poor old man in front of me was waiting for longer than that! An hour?! Unacceptable - especially watching how disorganized they are which definitely explains the long wait. I don't remember a time when I waited this long for food in person anywhere. This unexpected delay threw off my schedule and created a domino effect that had me running behind the entire rest of the day which I really don't appreciate. Issue #2: UNSANITARY! I watched an employee manage an uber eats order. She had gloves on. She opened the order and dug through it with her hands (assuming to make sure it was correct?). Then she just put it back how it was and patted it on top. When rice fell on to the counter, I watched her pick it up and put it back in the bowl. What?! I told her that I saw that and that's not right. Then this same employee wipes her nose with her hand with the gloves still on and continued making someone else's order. What?! Disgusting. I spoke to another employee and told her I didn't want that person touching my food, and why. Issue#3. Their sign at the front says cash tips are EXPECTED AND ACCEPTED. It was amusing at first because of how tacky it is to demand tips. But after the poor service, it actually offended me. How are you going to provide an unsanitary and subpar experience and then have the nerve to say you expect a cash tip? Yeah, you should EXPECT exact change *insert side eye*.. Never going back, and if you want a pleasant and timely experience, I'd caution others to do the same Oh! and to top it off, the hot food is not fresh. We decided to go to this place based on Google reviews and this turned out to be a bad idea. The place is small and filthy. The chairs and tables have worn out colors and there was food on the floor. This was when there were only 5 people in the restaurant. This is certainly not a surrounding to have while you eat. I am not sure how bad the kitchen is if the seating are is dirty. Since we were hungry we decided to give it a chance thinking that we should not judge it by its looks. We ordered superstar dosa and veg noodles. Dosa was super thin and had raw onions. Sambhar was more on a sweeter side and the coconut chutney had string garlic taste. I am not sure how they came up with this disaster recipe. Veg noodles were blend. Overall this place is filthy and serves overpriced food with horrible taste. I was planning to bring my friend to this place but after this experience I wont recommend this to anyone. As soon as I watched it, I asked if they could turn down the music, they did. I told them I'm waiting for my party and they'll order for me that I was vegan and if they could cook accordingly I did have a chickpea dish, but they drizzled some sort of white sauce on it. I've been ordering from Vaanga since the first week it opened. The guys are all so nice and the space is fun and unique (hand painted decorations, etc) but the quality of the menu items is inconsistent. I'd generally rate it between a 3.5 and 4. Sometimes it's excellent, and sometimes it's just okay. I tend to order the same thing frequently (butter chicken, palak paneer). The butter chicken is usually the best one around -- they get a good char on the meat. However, the past few times I've had it, the sauce has been way too sweet. One thing I do really like about their food is that the cooks often use whole spices (I've gotten whole cumin seeds before) and the flavors are usually excellent. However, even when I order the same things over and over they rarely taste like the same dish! Over COVID they stopped making trays of food luncheon-style. Overall this has been good for the quality, since it's all made fresh to order instead of sitting in troughs for serving. read more

I had a fine lunch here. I would come back to try it again. Four of us wandered in before the lunch rush at noon to try out the new Indian place. Not every meal was ready to serve immediately, so my coworker decided to wait for his Angry Tacos to be prepared. They definitely forgot about him as other people got their tacos first. Twenty minutes later, he got his food after bugging the guys. He did enjoy the tacos after they came out. I was interested in the Volcano Chicken but not interested in waiting for it to be prepared. Instead I chose the Bombay Chicken. It was spiced well and had a nice ratio of rice to non-rice. Of course you are guaranteed a good ratio when they serve your food in a two compartment plastic container! I don't mind cheating that way though! (after all I'm going to reuse the container at home!) I will have to come back again and try out some different meals.
